Yeah, Lucas never did get the "ticking clocks" perfect for act 3 in ROTS. He clarified that their window for getting Sidious was closing and that they had to act quickly to get him but he never came up with a good "why" for Obi to go after Ani at the same time and thus splitting up our heroes.
You're right, if they teamed up Yoda and Obi would seem unstoppable.
