Super Punch Out came out on virtual console today. I've been playing the tar out of the original and was anxious to give "Super" a go. (I was a genesis guy so never got to try SPO)
What a disappointment....
It's not bad, but it's nowhere near as fun as the Tyson or Mr. Dream version. The characters are all well drawn and funny (except for Little Mac, is he even in this game?) But as far as gameplay, you can get by with button mashing if you'd like. And the music... It's just not the same. 
Don't get me wrong, it's fun and all, but I'm glad the Wii version looks to have more of the classic elements than Super Punch Out did.

one week away! you fight 13 boxers (12 from previous games) and you fight an upgraded glass joe and impossible to hit king hippo twice..its also head to head where you can box a friend half/split screen

I don't see any of the rumored SNES characters...unless Bear Hugger was one of them?

Possibly, especially if "vintage," NES characters.
Loving the new commercials for this game, btw (particularly Doc, played by an actor who is a currupt local politician on the Wire). Too bad Mario isn't the ref, though.

yep, sandman is the last opponent for the title belt....I heard a rumored mystery character fight might be after...but not sure...rumored you fight doc louis, but not sure
