and if you think that version of superman will appear on the screen looking exactly like that, then you're just not well informed. the burton/cage's superman was to wear all black costume, no blue and red underpants anywhere.

you guys talking crap about cage obviously have very limited knowledge of him. he IS a great actor. seen leaving las vegas? seen matchstickmen? seen adaptation? seen face/off?
I've seen all of them, and he was quite good in Leaving Las Vegas, but I wasn't overly impressed with these others you list. I think Adaptation (and his role in it) was pretty dang over-rated.

And while on that topic, I think Sean Penn is one of the most over-rated actors of this generation. His best movie was probably Falcon and the Snowman :lol

You may like the guy, but just because others don't doesn't mean that they have "limited knowledge." They may just have better taste :huh :)

the guy is on par with the best of the best actors in hollywood.
:rotfl whatever you say kid. Those movies are nothing to brag about. The only in that list that was better than average was Face Off.

^^^ This.

they may have better taste, or they may be clueless about what constitute a great acting. you can never tell in this forum.

Then how would you define "great acting"?

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/d4MqTCIDKhU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/d4MqTCIDKhU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Well, he certainly evokes an emotional response in that scene. If that is the definition of a "great actor," then I think that Cage succeeds.

He was damn good in Raising Arizona, though.

That gave him his 6th Oscar, right?

you said sean penn is overrated. how can you explain to a person what a great painting van gogh did when that person cant even appreciate basic stil life painting?

i've taken filmmaking courses and read some acting/directing books enough to trust my own judgement over yours. let's just leave it at that.

Well that's fine, but despite all your film education, you still haven't defined this "great acting" concept that the rest of us lay-folk just don't get. If you can do that, then we can have a discussion. Until then. . .

Well Hell-looooooo Mr. Fancy Pants.

Truly amazing:

Indeed, Penn is the "still life" to Nicolas Cage's "Van Gogh"

best actor right here...^^^^ penn :lol:lol

can you define a great painting? can define a beautiful scenery? i can say that my definition of a great acting is 'clean and simple', but that wouldnt mean much to most people, would it? you want more explanatory definitions you can just google it, but i doubt a more lengthy description would mean much more than my definition to most "lay folks".

no one who knows ^^^^ about movies would dispute cage's talent. his problem is his (in)ability to choose worthy projects.

Well Hell-looooooo Mr. Fancy Pants.

sorry... did it sound like i was bragging? really?? i thought everyone could just as easily learn more about acting if they want to. reading materials are not hard to find, are they? i only brought it up to show i wasn't just talking out of my ass. whether you want to agree with me or not is another matter entirely.

Indeed, Penn is the "still life" to Nicolas Cage's "Van Gogh"

what i meant was if you cant appreciate sean penn, then i dont know how anyone could explain to you what a great acting is with you understanding it.

Quoted for truth. They Live is one of the greatest movies of all time. John Carpenter and Rowdy Roddy Piper kick ass.
