That does look really nice. I wish someone did a 1:1 Gollum.
That was a maquette, though, right? I was thinking an articulated figure like this.
I had the Rubies lifesize one, but yeah, it was just a statue. No articulation. Its nice, but could have been a lot better. Im waiting for another company to do a better one.

Haven't collected any Neca 'til now but I've PO'd this pair - what's their track record like re: proto to final product? Can I expect the in-hand figures to present pretty much like the protos? I might be better off cancelling the PO and waiting for in-hand pics...

This isn't a high-end company, the protos are generally better looking then what ends up on the shelves, but with NECA the gap isn't that big and most of the time the final product is pretty darn close to the protos. Other than that, the only thing you really have to keep an eye on is their QC, especially with the paint apps; I find with NECA products its best to scan through the shelves first to find the one with the best paint apps, this isn't to say their paint is terrible, but often a figure might have a misaligned pupil or some such that isn't really noticeable until you've opened it up and tinkered with it a little, I myself was quite disappointed to find that my Clayton Carmine figure had paint apps on the details on his right leg misaligned.
And finally, there's always the chance you might get a figure with lose joints or a broken joint, if that’s the case I hear NECA has pretty good customer support but I haven't tried it myself yet so I can't really say.
I know all this sounds pretty bad, but NECA is, in my opinion, the best non-high end company out there right now, but I’m trying to be realistic when describing what to expect; just pay attention to the paint apps on each figure and you should be fine, it's fairly unlikely you'll get a figure with broken joints or something.

I really want a nice gandalf figure, that will be cool, and maybe the SSC is the best, but I don't like it, and a 1/4 gandalf is just too big for me :/

Neca figures are great, I have some old ones from ghostbusters (2004) and they still look amazing, the paint apps and sculps are great.
and I have the chance to look the predator, alien and terminator figures, and all are amazing.
Some figures have issues with the paint apps, and some joins, or "delicate details" like some spikes and stuffs from alien or predator... but even HT have them.
Neca is an amazing company, and do amazing figures, if you like it go for it!

It would fit nicely to the PF statues (1/4), but since I already have the Gollum PF …I’m not sure I’m getting this

I like the Gollum figure a little more.
If they made the Smeagol one with a smiling expression, i would have been all over that.
The one they used is too scene specific, and a little too zombie like for my tastes. Its like the scene when Frodo calls out to him infront of Faramir, and when Frodo calls him Smeagol for the first time.
I might be wrong... i love LOTR, but i think i've only seen the trilogy around 3-4 times.
