I appreciate the input, Travis, but I would only ever have given the movie a chance if it had been one film, preferably directed by Guillermo del Toro. I wasn't even a fan of the Rings trilogy. I like The Hobbit because it's a short, fun, simple novel, but even then I'd have never pursued NECA's Bilbo if it hadn't been so delightfully cheap. It's just that once I had him in hand I fell in love with the toy, but my affection for the toy is stronger than my affection for the franchise.

Oh man, what's that severed leg accessory from?

I haven't photographed it, but my Gollum is holding the NECA Penguin's fish accessory.
It is from one of those zombie packs that came with that, frying pan, machette, and a pick ax. I don't remember the product name or brand.

Resurrecting a dead thread here, but this past week I scored Gandalf, Aragorn, and Legolas for about $100 and today I got Smeagol for $20. The 3 classic figures look great and are definitely up to the same standards NECA has today with their 1/4 line in terms of sculpt and paint, despite having limited articulation and being almost 13 years old.

While I would have preferred Gollum, I was only able to find him online for about $80 but a local seller had Smeagol for $20. It was a no brainer. I absolutely love this figure and the paint and sculpt are incredible. Articulation is well implemented too.

I'm tempted to try and get my hands on Bilbo now; is he worthwhile? It's a damn shame NECA never made any more LOTR or Hobbit related figures.

Do you know what the original retail price was for him?

$40, maybe? I paid $10! :)

Update:

Found this comment on one of my old Flickr portraits of Bilbo:

"The usual retail price is around $50. Hastings has it for $30 or so. I got mine for $14 shipped from GameStop, but they're sold out now."

Geez, I miss Hastings.

Okay thanks! Yeah looks like you can still get him for pretty much retail. Will definitely have to pick him up at some point.

Of course it would be incredible if NECA did the entire Fellowship but that's a tall order for sure. I wish we could have at least gotten Gimli though to have the trio.

I think part of it was that they didn't appear to scale with the previous released GANDOLF, LEGOLAS AND STRIDER. Thats the reason I never picked them up
From what I've gathered they actually scale pretty accurately. Bilbo should go up to just above Gandalf's belt.
