I think what's being implied is they could have been left off, because it's a near certainty they will be produced.

If we had a Luke Mythos, I'd definitely want the Episode VI version of him in the cave, building his own lightsaber. The scene that was cut from the original movie and is one of the best scenes ever. So powerful.
