Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Wow, I missed these. This figures looks so damn good.

I missed those too... damn impressive looking :rock

I feel bad for people who dropped 2K on the Cinemaquette statue :lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

i have to disagree about Marcus Wright. it should be in your "stunt double" list. Perseus is dead on to Sam Worthington though, that should be there in the "nailed it" along with Reeve :p

oh and the t-800 has been said to be a bit horizontally squished so this list is pretty superfluous

It's important to me because I wanted this to be in the 100% nailed it likeness camp as Hot Toys has achieved many times, because this movie character is as important to me as few others...

Figures where Hot Toys nailed it and NO ONE can say they don't look dead-on like the actor:

I think it's dead on and perfect. You don't. You say that NO ONE can say the figures on that list can say they aren't perfect, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who would say just that.

That's the thing about likenesses. Until they find a way to make tiny clones of actual people there will always be some debate.

Making definitive statements about them are just silly in my opinion. It's really in the eye of the beholder. Also, in my opinion making a likeness of someone is an art, and has nothing to do with matching up feature x with feature y. If it were that simple, then direct scanning of people could be used as is. But that never happens. An artist still has to use their critical eye to adjust it.

:goodpost:

I watched I, II, and III this past weekend on the dish while I was getting some paperwork done-- even though I have them in my collection, once I started to watch I couldn't flip the channel.

Love this. Definite buy-- had a Superman II poster on my wall for most of the 80's...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

It's important to me because I wanted this to be in the 100% nailed it likeness camp as Hot Toys has achieved many times, because this movie character is as important to me as few others. The problem here isn't squinting. The squinting pictures of Reeve don't match this figure either, and the eyes on the figure don't look like they were molded to look like they were squinting since the rest of the facial features don't jive with a squinting look. And you can't find Reeve giving any expression that matches this figure. Any pictures of Reeve squinting seem even further off the mark from this.

For comparison's sake, I assembled some review links showing Hot Toys likenesses that nailed it 100% below and ones that missed the mark (I left out the just decent ones). I'm still trying to decide if this Reeve missed the mark or is at least passable. Not saying the ones that miss the mark aren't still better than what other companies put out, but this discussion is just about comparing Hot Toys to the bar they set for themselves. Usually the flubs, as with Reeve's, are because they have that White-Asian look around their eyes (a la Jennifer Tilly or Keanu Reeves, people who are half-Asian often have a distinct look to their eyes different from whites or asians). What's unfortunate is so many of their recent figures have been nailing it and most of the flubs are in the past. So this Reeve is a big step back.

You have way to much time on your hands.

The SUPERMAN likeness is awesome and Hot Toys is going to make a ton of cash with it. It says Prototype and final may be slightly different. Having said that, it can't get any better for me, I'm buying this because I feel they nailed it. 100%. It's a toy, it's not a genetic recreation of the man.

If you don't like it, don't buy it, there are plenty of others who are very happy with it.

Its all subjective. Personally I'd take Charlie Sheen and Whiplash out of your stunt double list and put them in the 'nailed' section...maybe even Sarah Connor aswell. And the HT Schwarzennegger sculpts are not perfect. The likeness is there but they are off in some technical details with each of them being too short in the face.

I can easily say a lot of these aren't even close to nailing a likeness.

Yeah, I'd switch a few things around on his list. However that does perhaps underline that, much as some of us think this likeness is perfect, there is scope for saying that something could be off.

I hope this comes out for Christmas time. This would make a great build up to then. :D

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

We’d like to share with our fans that a portion of this collectible figure’s sales benefits will be donated to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation by Hot Toys Limited. The Reeve Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy. We hope that we can contribute to the foundation and the injured through the enjoyment of collectible figures.

:yess:

As I stated in the last Superman thread, I had hoped and wished that they'd do this.
