I wrote an en email to the cinema district manager with a slew of complaints and was sent 6 free Imax tickets a few weeks ago I just might go see this with my son.
If you didn’t like the others, well, what’s wrong with you :lol

But this won’t suddenly be the one to win you over.

But if you did, you’ll love it.

Isn’t that the whole mission Impossible franchise??
Well, which part of my post? It looks fake... or its real on location?

I suppose it can be both... but if it doesn't feel real, then to me its not 'there'.

Like the fight inside the helicopter in MI6 looked totally fake to me, so it wasn't enjoyable. Does the fight inside the train in MI7 look fake like that too? I hope not.

I guess I didn't make my point. In the 50's, most movies were made on studio stages, even ones supposedly outside, and it all looked fake. You all know what it looked like, basically all the TV shows we grew up with did the same thing.

But in the 60's, cameras got lighter and more transportable and being "on location" was a huge draw, actually part of the trailers. After years of having actors against a "blue-screen" for outdoor shots, having Cary Grant actually in Paris was new and hip... and brought a new realism... that continued into the French New Wave.

I feel like there is this interesting parallel between that time period of studio control and out current time period of studio control -- CGI is the new "studio stage". And it feels phony.

I think the MI films have their share of real and not real shots. You can only do so much. They are not going to risk the lives of both actors fighting in a real chopper hanging over a cliff.

But I thought the shot of Tom falling from the chopper and his flying all looked real.

Then don't do the sequence -- think of something better that you CAN do practical. That would be jaw dropping.

CGI is laziness to me. Think of ridiculously insane stunt and do it -- even if not believable.

What is the point of "not believable"?

Really? The sixth one felt like the latter Bond films, namely Spectre and/or No Time to Die. Bloated and meandering and not very engaging. They need to step up to compete in a John Wick world IMO.
Again. None of this makes sense to me :lol

I loved 6

I almost gave up after 4 cause I thought the villain sucked.

I wish Bond movies had the quality of these films.

Agreed. I also wish Bond movies had the pacing of these -- which still drag at times but not nearly as much as slogging through a new Bond movie.

The last truly exciting sequence a Bond movie had was Casino Royale's construction site chase in 2006.

While I don’t disagree. That moment in the chopper was not about the stunt but about the fight. I guess I’m fine with green screen. It’s been used forever. Hell TOD has some of the worst but I go for the ride.

Personally for me being able to tell it’s a stunt man takes me out of the film a bit just as much and yes the ditch in raiders always takes me out a bit also. Films be sped up to mimic speed drives me crazier than anything but I still love The Road Warrior.

Go watch the newest F&F films. You will fully appreciate the MI films lol

I agree. I like CR but really there was no great action in it after that opening.

I love JW films… Still have not watched 4 again so still not a fan. I still think The Raid is better than all the JW and MI films.

But they are IMO the best “classic” style action films out there. Meaning there is a big variety of action.

That was my issue with JW4. It was all repetitive and nothing topped what came before it.

I can't stand those.

But I'm not against MI films. I really like them. Not sure how I got on the other side of the fence.
F&F films are pure trash.

I love the MI films except part 2. In all honesty they are the only films I look forward to. Well the last couple of JW films had me pretty hyped.

Do Godzilla movies count? My inner child always gets hyped. :lol

Having said that, none of MI films are in my top 10 action films but some would be in my top 20 for sure.
