Try the free version in your browser (limited, no tool building): https://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp

Minecraft is a small world-building game developed by one guy that you can play on your PC or web browser window. You start off by designing your own character, and then you are dropped into an empty island. From there, you build. Anything. I'm not sure how big your world can be, but I've seen giant islands that look like small cities, rollercoasters, working CPUs, lots of stuff.

There doesn't seem to be a goal outside of exploring and creatively building, but when the sun goes down every day, you have to protect yourself from monsters. You could build a house, a fortress, whatever to keep yourself safe until sunrise. They seem to be afraid of light so torches come in handy.

I've been tinkering on and off with this game for the last week or so, juggling this an a couple other games, but I keep going back to this one, spending an hour or so a day building my world. It's very addicting and it's small enough that you could just run it from your browser.

Currently the game is in Alpha and you can try a free version (the full alpha version costs about $12. Worth it):

One thing I forgot to mention in the first post is that there's a multiplayer mode as well.

Ok I thought I was a nerd.

:lol I don't think I'll ever get to the point in which I'm building a starship in-game, but yeah this game (like Farmville or Sim City) is pretty nerdy.

All that work for comments like this.

It looks cool but like another one of those games that some people let take their lives over.

Maybe, though one probably couldn't tell from the limited trial version. I think most will get bored of it before too long due to its goalless nature. But as of right now it does have over 1 million users.

Iam currently addicted to minecraft. I play on a multiplayer survivor server. You can connect to it at 68.41.190.14

Heres some examples of my work

Each one takes around a hour to two. I just finished a 2000 peice that took around 3-4 hours.

I just heard of this last week actually. Saw that Enterprise thing, its pretty sweet!

I've never been griefed. I would think it's because there so awesome nobody would want to destroy them . The server does crash and sometimes I have lost hours of work such as the latest project I told you about.

The admin does have a add-on where only the set person can alter a specific area if the structure is truly great
