Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

This is a reboot of the franchise and this last movie, unlike the other two, features holes in the characters, not just the plot. The biggest issues are things that are difficult to believe, stuff that defies common sense, let alone the sense any professional would have. It just wasn't a strong movie, despite the fact I enjoyed myself the entire time in the theater.

If the lazy story writing, editing, characters and continuity didn't bother you, that's great. Like I said, it was still an enjoyable film. But those mis-fires bother me a great deal and the movie could have been so much better, so much tighter, if it hadn't been written so haphazardly.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Please don't misunderstand me, I've loved Bond movies since the first broadcast of Dr No (on ABC's Sunday Night Movie in the days before cable) and since I was old enough to attend The Man With The Golden Gun at an actual theater. Every Bond movie has glaring character and plot holes including my personal favorite, Casino Royale. Here are just a few:
1) Bond is nearly forty before he kills his first target.
2) The best security MI6 can offer M at her residence is a locked door.
3) Bond breaks his cover more frequently than my dog breaks wind.
4) A decision that could determine the fate of the free world is left in the hands of an accountant.
5) Bond doesn't seem to have a clue as to who to trust.
6) The fact that the villain is not taken out by a sniper in the first five minutes, which could probably be applied to every Bond movie but would also result in awful box office receipts.
My point is that nobody wakes up and says "I feel like seeing a well thought out, insightful movie today. I wonder if that new Bond movie is out yet?". Unfortunately the Bond formula seems to have worked really well for the Broccoli family. Otherwise they might be hard up enough for cash that they'd authorize some decent figures and no one would have to be here complaining about crappy head sculpts.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Mine has arrived.
I have to say that in hand, the HS is better than in some pics i have seen on the web.
I have to say too that the walther ppk is too small. i have posed it with the p99 for the pics.
Here are somo samples of it in" real" enviroment.
I haven repainted the eyes yet but i´m doubting if is necessary...
Hope you like it.

Yes.. The sculpt does indeed look better in person. For an unofficial headsculpt, this is definitely the best one so far.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Personally, I think most of Bond's flaws come from the source material, it was fine for the time it was written in, but, even by the time Dr No came into cinemas, they had to update and upgrade it to keep up with the times they were filmed in.

Judi Dench sums Bond up best: "A sexist misogynist dinosaur.." "A relic from the Cold War.."

I think they should have dropped the Fleming style Bond years ago and gone with books from John Gardner onwards. Modern writers, writing a modern Bond for a modern era.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Personally I couldn't give a toss for craig.
He's bland and boring.:pfft:
I grew up watching moore and connery and think I prefer moores films because of the characters.
Jaws scaramanga, tee hee and the vodoo people etc.
Plus roger moore is as camp as christmas and played the role tounge in cheek alot of the time and the one liners are classics.
Not that believable looking back on them, but personal favourites and the point of movies is to suspend disbelief isn't it.

If you want to take out the fun and make things literall and accurate then whats the point?
You get daniel craig.........Great:slap

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

This is all speculative, but I do suspect Craig's successor will be a slightly younger bond < 40 between 33 to 38 due to the demands & rigors of an actor who may be expected to commit to a minimum of three films.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The one thing I missed about Bond films over the years is the climatic all out final battle scenes like GOLDFINGER where the US Army fights the Chinese combatants @ Fort Knox, the Japanese ninja commandos assaulting Blofelds's volcano launch complex in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, the underwater combat between US Navy divers & Largo's men in THUNDERBALL, the US Army helicopter assault on Blofeld's oil rig in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, the American & British naval personnel fighting Stromberg's forces in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, the US Marines astronauts fighting Drax's astronauts during the space station assault in MOONRAKER.

Get the idea?

We have not gotten hardly anything like that in many years.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I hear ya:goodpost:

To me bond is suposed to be over the top and fantasy.
Mad gadgets, chinamen flying through roofs:lol
Had one of those cars as a kid.
What a toy.
When bond grew up he got dull.
And by that I mean craig.
Brosnon was good.
Had the charm and the tech.People can disagree but goldeneye with the game on the n64 was a clever tie in.
Maybe they should make some games of the classic films.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Goldeneye the game being one of the all time greats had nothingto do with Brosnan, the movie or even Bond for all that matter it just was at the time an innovative and amazingly well developed game.

They have made more Brosnan based games, Craig based games, a game based on a classic movie starring connery which he actually voiced over, and even remade Goldeneye. All were either bad or not nearly as good as Goldeneye.

It wasn't so much that it was a clever tie in it just happened to be great. Beyond Bond almost all movies of that level have video game tie ins

Your right.
As I hit submit I did think it probably wasn't a good idea.:slap
I've played another bond game can't remember the title but it was shocking clunky and non immersive.
Playing goldeneye did feel like you were bond though, well I did anyway.
Loved the silenced weapons especially.
Never did crack the code with the golden gun at the end, gave up.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I love a few bond games, Everything or nothing, FRWL and Blood Stone.
