I think the ambassador is the way to go, remove the cloak and you essentially have the soldier...it's like 2 for 1.

The Ambassador actually has a different collar piece and dome. You can see it a bit one the figure if you look where the dome meets the collar, and you can see it in the movie when he removes his robe to fight the boxer.

he also has a cool belt with the martian symbol on it. oddly you can see it in the martian soldier pics on sideshowtoy.com, a small mix up but oh well. so awesome!
