Wow. Spectacular job boycotting this one, fellas.

I honestly thought it would be like Solo after TLJ all over again (because of all the vitriol I was reading online). Solo was okay, much like CM, and I was like one of the dozen in the world who isn’t a critic who actually didn’t mind TLJ (please don’t hate me).

Would be nice to see Yon-Rogg, Minn-Erva, Ronan and/or Talos figures, although doubtful they'd come from HT. Maybe one of the knock off companies.
Hopefully a grown Monica Rambeau will show up in CM2.

I think Minn-Erva can still come back. It would be pretty easy to explain that the tech in the suit protected her in the crash. She could have been left unconscious at the bottom of a ravine. Gemma Chan did a nice job with the too brief role. Not to mention she's gorgeous. Would be nice to see her back for the sequel in some capacity.

Just came back from CM and I enjoyed it. Nothing special but i'm still happy i saw it. Might actually pick this up now.

I just watched the movie in IMAX and I really enjoyed it! There was no moment in the movie where I felt bored. I think that the pacing was great.

It is one of the better and more enjoyable origin movies for me. I do not think that CM can be compared to ensemble movies such as the Avengers movies or Civil War because it will be like comparing a comedy to a drama. In CM, Carol Danvers was the main superhero and focus of the movie. In ensemble movies such as CW, there are a lot of superheros so there is less screen time for each individual but what makes it fun to watch is how the different superheroes interact.

I also think that the explanation for Carol's Kree name is clever. They even tried to disguise the name by pronouncing it differently from the last syllable of her surname.

After watching the movie, I'd like to see figures of Vers, Yon-Rogg, Minn-Erva, and Ronan. I doubt that we'll get all of them but any of them will make me happy.

I also have my personal explanation for why some people think that Brie Larson's acting sometimes look "stiff". I believe that it was done on purpose and I observed that when she was Vers. This is in line with Vers' backstory because she was taught to control her emotions (as Yon-Rogg said in the beginning). I like Brie's one-liners and I think that her character will have an evolution over time similar to Thor (compare his first appearance to Ragnarok).

I doubt that she can single-handedly defeat Thanos in Endgame. Her powers came from the tesseract, which contains one of the infinity stones. That makes her very powerful but not powerful enough to defeat someone who has all the infinity stones. However, having someone with her power level will be a big help to the Avengers. I don't think that any one or two superheroes on their own (in the MCU) can defeat Thanos. Otherwise, it will undermine the years of building up Thanos and the combined power of the infinity stones.

Movie was entertaining, if a bit too much on the silly comedy side in a few parts (I’m one of the few who didn’t care for Ragnarok for the same reason). I felt that the music detracted from several scenes (particularly undermined what should have been a tense fight scene).

Lots to like in the movie, lots to dislike or be bored by (IMO, of course). Better than Iron Man 2 & 3, Hulk, Age of Ultron, Homecoming, Ant-Man, Ragnarok, GotG2 and Dark World for me (based on the simple “which would I rather watch again?” metric). Nowhere near the Russo movies or Winter Soldier.

If everything was taken in context I think a lot of the current inflammatory ‘articles’ would not exist to create any ‘clicks’.

But they rely on individuals who don’t read past the headline or the first paragraph.

Though to play devils advocate it wasn’t the smartest thing in the world to use the “40 year old white men” line (in what I found to be reasonable in context, but), which represents a large enough chunk of the audience who are probably sick of being the proverbial punching bag to make various points, in American society.

Refreshing to read, well balanced and articulated... or maybe I just think so because I agree.

Thanks. Always better to try to at least see where the other side is coming from.

But I’m currently reading comments on comicbookmovie.com and one or two posters are just so adamant about their point of view, and can’t get past what they see as SJW agendas, which imo were fairly benign in Captain Marvel when again taken in context that the film took place in the 90s.

Some people forget it wasn’t until the early 90s (1993) that women were even allowed to fly fighter jets in the US. So I can only imagine what women had to go through the first few years before their peers fully excepted them. Today it’s probably not even thought about by many in the armed forces.

SPOILERS AHEAD

I think you may have missed the main point of this movie. It’s so much more than a “oh she’s a female superhero, she can do anything, she’s strong, etc”. Carol was wiped from her memories for 6 years by the Kree and was used as a weapon to fight the in the Kree - Skrull war. Once Carol realizes that her life in Hala was built on lies, she veers away from her “Kree” personality wherein everything is made to be perfect and controlled. This is shown in the Supreme Intelligence sequence where she finally realizes that while she fails at certain points of her life, getting back up is what makes her stronger AND human. That’s the MOST IMPORTANT takeaway in the film. I’m a guy but this message resonated with me so much. Her motivation was very clear when she meets with Fury on Earth: to fight the Skrulls and look for Wendy Lawson. However, she believes that she also had a life on Earth. Was she robbed of her memories? Who wiped it out? After she realizes that the Yon-Rogg was responsible for this, her motivation now shifts to instead of being a weapon for the Kree, to she doesn’t have to prove anything to them. She fights for what she believes in now. Plus her character isn’t flat; her scenes with Maria and Monica Rambeau prove that. She was literally battling two layers of Carol Danvers - Kree vs Human.

I also feel that the hype for Endgame is hurting this film a bit in terms of reviews. Some reviewers are pointing this out that while it is a good movie, it doesn’t have an Endgame connection which disappointed them. But then the question really here is, does everything have to have a connection to the main event film? Can’t we just get a personal film all about the character? That mid credits scene got me hyped for Endgame but the movie was freaking amazing. Loved learning about Carol and I can’t wait for more.

I definitely agree with your most important takeaway from the film. I didn't think about it that way at first but now I definitely agree. Regarding her "flat" character, I tried to address it in a previous post and your comment seems to imply the same point. I think that she acted that way as Vers because she was trained to control her emotions. I saw a change in her once she learned that she was not Vers. I can see her character evolving in future films, which will make it interesting to look back at this first appearance someday.

Seen it twice, fun film. Plays well the second time around too, given the amount of mystery and shapeshifting you have a lot more to look for on repeat viewings. Great to have so much Fury too. Definitely want a figure, I'll hold off to pull the trigger till Endgame to gauge the new costume, but I'll end up with some version or another. The Kree colors were a slick look too, wouldn't be surprised with an exclusive version down the road
