I agree with you JK , but unfortunately this always happens, everyone does with his money what he feels, business for pleasure or helping a friend .....

Yeah, check Ebay...there's no reason the PF Darth Vader should be 500+ and other figures that high after a few years, except that many people are buying to sale later. I would hope for some appreciation but like the Hulk and Dr. Doom PF's...1000-2000?? Come on.

I think I'd agree for the most part. Something like this where there's only 250 of really should be limited to 1 per person. Most of the reasons to buy 2 comes back to flipping it. I don't think it's the buyers responsibility to limit them though. If the company doesn't do it, then I guess I can't fault the next guy for trying to make a buck. All's fair and all...

However, something like Hot Toys where the item is available for some time before selling out, everyone gets a shot at those if they're paying attention to the HT release notes. So, I feel far less angst over HT flipping than I would on something like this.

Amen, Avenger. I know I'm not the only person who buys two of something. I lost my favorite sun-glasses last year, had them for 10 yrs. And I kicked myself that I didn't buy two when I could hv - they're discontinued now. The cost of one item can offset the other, eventually, maybe. But it's a risk. I'm not rich, but it's my money, and my risk. There's no automatic guarantee of appreciation unless you wait a really long time and keep the item near-pristine. I didn't try to buy one of the 250 b/c I believe those are serious 1-off collector-pieces. There is a wait-list, just like Sideshow, if someone missed out. Probably eFX only allows 1 per individual anyway. If not though, you can't really blame the buyer. We live in a capitalistic country - THANK GOD!

On eFX's website they don't even say how many Ltd Edns.. they say they'll announce how many after pre-order. That's like saying, "This is wide open, we're not limiting ourselves - if we get 5,000 orders, we will fill all of them." And why is it okay for dealers to buy several or many, then sell them for a profit, but it's not okay for the individual to buy an extra? You should be more mad at retailers b/c (1) they have no love of collecting, (2) they purchase far more pieces, and (3) for them it's STRICTLY business. Yet everyone jumps on the little guy, the collector who's looking at a way to obtain a nice piece and also try to offset the high cost a bit. I purchased several lessor Jedi and droids that didn't sell well. That was my risk. I don't see anyone lamenting the poor collector who can now get them for LESS than retail on Ebay. They waited, for them that was a wise risk. Anyway, the Jedi are for sale if you want them. Move along. Move along.

Don't thank God for the capitalistic world. This still is not a perfect world, and the God of this world is money alas. Soul and spirituality are engulfed by money. I lived in both Soviet centralized market and in this new capitalistic one. Both are far from perfect and that can be seen every day ;)

But back on track about the Vader helmet. How are the collectors going to display them? Customs acrylic cases? Glass cabinets? In the open? Special displays between 2 Stormtrooper helmets?

GLCANON:

They orginally said 1000 for the Limited. If the ES is now open, then that is a change.

Oh my, oh my...

I can see this rapidly degenerating into a Left/Right mud slinging contest, but at the risk of throwing gasoline on the fire, I've made the comittment to myself that whenever these issues come up I've have to at least offer a (hopefully) quick and concise comment and then (hopefully) leave it alone.

Capitalism is the engine of prosperity. It's that simple. It allows not only to the talented/motivated/lucky to thrive, but also for us to provide a safty net for those less endowed or simply less fortunate. Is it perfect? Of course not, but it is the best, most free system ever invented. Thank God for capitalism? 100%.

Moving on...

I have no idea how I'm going to diplay the Legend. Like a few others, I have the DP ESB Deluxe, which has been a cherished posession, but its just hanging out there bare. Since it didn't come with a base (I did pick up a stand) it really doesn't take up THAT much space, but with the eFX piece, I've got no ideas.

This is a happy problem...

If I purchase one, I'll probably display on a round wooden display stand in the corner of office. Will just hv to keep the feather duster handy. And I do Thank God where I was born - since you commented I will reply.
More people are trying to get here than any other country in the world -why? Freedom. Sure no govt is perfect, even here we hv socialists running 2 of our 3 branches about to bankrupt us with their spending, but, we have most our freedoms still, incl the right to roam amongst the 50 states without border crossings. AND THANKFULLY, we still have the right to buy, sell, and own private property, incl Vader, or multiple Vaders. Sorry to preach, but I came here looking for thoughts and advice about Ltd Edn Vader, and I get socialist preaching, ie, to each according to his needs, etc.. If I wanted that I'd go to Huffington Post or DNC forums. Thanks to those who did answer my questions.

This is a true museum piece and I intend to display it as such. Alone, atop a display stand with a glass or acrylic cover. The beauty of this piece is that it will command respect and admiration even outside a collection room.

I can't believe you guys went from Vader to politics so quickly. That has no place here.

As for the edition size of the limited version, the email said, "As usual, the edition size will be determined by the pre-order, but limited to 1000 pieces worldwide" and I see no reason to think that has changed.

The Limited version is capped at 1,000 units. The final edition will depend on how many orders are received so it may be less than 1,000 but never to exceed 1,000.

That is how eFX operates with most of their products (X-wing was 838 edition size for example)

Well, look, we're all just having a conversation. This is how they work. Sometimes unexpected topics arise. I see no reason to squelch the free flow as long as everyone is respectful, and the asides are short. So far I think that's what we have here (with the full understanding that I'm not helping things be feeling compelled to respond...)

I think eFX's approach to the "limiting" of their pieces makes good business sense. We still get a limited run and a numbered plaque, but they're not stuck with hundreds of units that don't sell. This wouldn't come into play with GRAIL items like this one, but as a model I think it works. It allows them to produce wonderful stuff while keeping their margins reasonably tight. Good, good.

Just a minute, I'm checking with my mail man to see if my Legend Vader has arrived yet...

What on earth does decrying supposed socialism in the US government have to do with this prop replica? It doesn't contribute to the discussion, it derails it.

Well, I think the MR version is the best retail version. What else is there? The Icons version?. But of course I'm sure there are custom versions that are better and much more expensive.

Any ideas what shipping within the US will probably be on this? Perhaps a good comparison would be how much the McVader cost to ship....
