For me so far.Event Horizon hell scene and Animatrix Renaissance 1&2. Serbian movie was pretty bad though.

To be fair, the Germans in that movie were Nazis, and, as we all know, Nazi ain't got no humanity. They're the foot soldiers of a Jew hatin', mass murderin' maniac and they need to be dee-stroyed.

Torture scene in Reservoir Dogs, baseball bat beating/burying alive scene in Casino....and yeah I guess Murphy's death in Robocop even today disturbs me a bit. Bone Tomahawk certainly fits the bill too. The violence and cruelty towards the end is pretty shocking.

Any film or TV show with violence against women is unsettling...I remember an episode of Sopranos where Joe Pantoliano beats his young girlfriend to death, made worse by how he speaks to her beforehand. And then later when they kill Adriana for speaking to the feds.

That scene in Casino makes me cringe because in that moment, after all the bravado and machismo, Pesci is so pathetic. He's just a dude pleading for his brother's life, and they just seem to relish it and that idea of him being reduced to this sort of pitiful, crying mess just feeds into their brutality, and then he dies and it's over.

Nail on the head there. People taking such satisfaction in the agony of others - a common factor in all those scenes that you included in your quote.

Oh and I guess the season 7 opener of The Walking Dead earns a place in this kind of list too.

I enjoy a proper horror, of the old school variety. Splatter horror doesn't bother me. In fact it's too comical and ridiculous to take seriously. I'm not really a fan of torture porn though. Hostel for instance. The drill gets me every time. Also the end scene of Hostel II for the same reason implied earlier. I will say the blood bathing scene was too ridiculous and camp to take seriously.

Oh, and Passion of the Christ. I'm an atheist so the content didn't bother in the sense of being offended, but the detail of the punishment is all a bit too cringey..

No double standard implied or suggested, it was the scene of one man killing another who is begging for his life that was just a tad disturbing. As far Americans killing Germans mercilessly I’m sure it was a two way street. I agree with you , Serbian movie was just insanity.

I hate about any rape or torture scene. Torture scenes that are graphic or long really bother me.

I think the death in SPR is brutal because its a slow repetitive stabbing while he's begging for him to stop.....he know he lost....and that's the hard part. Shooting someone is quick and impersonal......that death was brutally slow and personal...

Irreversible has been mentioned. I Spit on Your Grave needs a mention. Raw as wel, that makes Silence of the Lambs look like Sesame Street. All the Hostel movies. Bone Tomahawk. Shallow Grave, which is almost Hitchcockian in its descent into group insanity.
