oh snap nice find .... though I have hear horror stories of deliveries taking longer than upto 2 months .. but ... gotto ..... try .....
too bad no 5730 :p

So let me get this straight... Dioders are no good now? And buy LED strips from somewhere else?

I'm finally going to be buying some Detolfs in the next month or so, but I have no clue how to set the lighting up now. :(

OMFG. My mind just imploded.

I want to wire up LED strips on each shelf of the detolf but right now I just am not quite sure how to achieve it.

So.. if I buy one of these:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/160562259516?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

and some of these:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/10PCS-10mm-...ultDomain_0&hash=item2572815de9#ht_3629wt_960

I can cut the strip to length and use the second item to prep the wiring??

But then how do you link those to the power supply? Hmm. I'm going to toddle off now and search for a "lighting 101" thread for n00bs like me who foolishly thought the detolf's light would do.

Try these...https://www.barlighting.com/led4white.html

You do need to pick up some 4 conductor wires and pick something similar gauge (I dont have mine anymore so I can't measure it but got another set coming) radio shack or similar store should have those. You will need to do some soldering yourself.
You will save yourself the work if you go ikea dioder or those bar lights. But at $35 for 5m of RGB LEDs it's almost still cheaper to not cut the strip and just cover up the sections you don't need LOL but of you do put the effort in to cut and solder your own wires you are effectively getting 16 of those 12" strips
Looks like the wiring is just around 22-24AWG so should have plenty of choices.
I just received my new sets and the wiring diagram and the actual product don't really match in terms of wiring colors but I figured it out without killing myself or the LEDs. Waiting for some paypal payments to clear so I can get the brighter LEDs as well.

If any of you have some warm white Ikea Dioders you want to get rid of, let me know. I will buy them from you. I got stuck with the warm yellowish ones too unfortunately but I am about 2 hours away and its not worth me returning them. I already have a few sets installed so I might as well just keep going with the same ones.

PM me if you want to sell them!! Im looking for the ones that came in the 4 pack, DIODERS!

Finally ordered them last week I just ordered everything from different us sellers because i didn't want to wait a month. I got these 700-800lumen https://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-300-LED-5050-SMD-Pure-White-Waterproof-Flexible-Light-Lamp-Strip-DC-12V-New-/150777018495?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231b02b87f and this type remote https://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-light-Single-Color-RF-Dimmer-Wireless-Remote-Control-Controller-12-24V-8A-/300733922755?pt=US_Lighting_Parts_and_Accessories&hash=item4605237dc3 here's a pic dimmed as low as it can go and all the way bright in a pitck dark room

I like em:)

Been trying to read through this thread and make sense of all of what has already been posted. I'm incredibly bad when it comes to wiring/lighting, but basically... there hasn't been a good alternative yet to the Dioder?

Someone linked some type of 5M 5050 light strip which looked promising... but how does it work? Attaches through adhesive? Do you just cut the strips into proper lengths... and somehow hook them all up to a power outlet?

Nice work!
Can you share a pic of how you wired your LEDs? Might as well gather up all the options here

So it looks like I bought a power supply with a 2.5mm jack and connectors that are 2.1mm. They fit, but will it work or is it even safe.

After receiving my LEDs I also dug out a bunch of PC mod CCFL lights I picked up a long time ago.
I did a test setup with both and the CCFL are still brighter, almost double the brightness, so I will have to use those for the base lightbox but the LEDs will also be used topside.... a sneak peek at my setup

btw a small note of caution, don't leave your lights on for too long during testing while parts or all of it is rolled up in the wheel. I have to try again and observe but something started getting hot and smoked and started melting the plastic wheel........

Another update on the CCFL lightbox. It all looks actually quite bright so I will leave the LEDs for now

Looking good Geil :)

Thanks to my growing collection, I bought more detolf cases. I had 3 sets of Dioder Lights (cool white) but the 4th and all the stock in the ikea near me are Warm white.

I realise I'm not going to find more Cool White sets, so looking at LED strips as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Does anyone know what rating 5050? would be the closest match to the Cool White Dioder lights?

I wouldn't count on them being identical as even the old stock was more warmish. I say look for used sets to compliment your setup or sell yours and convert all your lighting to be sure all lights are the same.. If you were in Toronto I'd sell you my Dioders ;)

Thanks Geil,

It's such a PITA that ikea changed these :( I'm scouring ebay as we speak. If I can't find a replacement in the next week I think I'll juust buy 10m of LEDs and replace them all.

I've ordered 10m of 5050 Cool white LEDs.

At least this way I'll have some spare & selling my current 3 sets of cool white shoudl offset the cost.

Do you guys recommend any particular vendor for LED's? I have three DETOLFs that need lights.
