Since Locke and Key seems to have fizzled out, my favorite comic right now is "Chew," written by John Layman and awesomely drawn by Rob Guillory.

The comic series pretty much goes in 5 issues arcs, and they are only up to issue 11 or 12. Planned to end at issue 60. I've been on board since day one. I believe there are two graphic novels that cover issues 1-5 and 6-10.

The story/stories are all about food. The main character has an ability that whatever he eats, he knows the history of whatever he's eaten. So if he eats an apple, he knows what tree it grows on in which orchard. If he eats a hamburger, he knows how the cow was slaughtered in which slaughter house. The police department has decided to use Tony Chew as a detective in order to solve crimes/mysteries, which sometimes means he has to ingest the victims of the crimes in order to solve the crime. It's a very original premise. And like I said, all the stories focus around food. That is the writer's (John Layman) intention. The story revolves around the aftermath of the avian/bird flu killing a lot of the population.

Anyway, I highly recommend it.

It's just in the starting stages and looks to be like a great ride.

Did you happen to get a first printing of issue #1? I was talking to the writer at a convention and he said they only printed something like 3000 and the comic was such a hit that it went into a 4th printing... while CGC first printings were fetching $300 on Ebay.

I've heard about this series and hear good things about it. I'll be picking up the tpb for this.

"CHEW" to be made into TV series.

Man, I friggin' love this comic. Just got done reading issue #13. Such a cool story with unique and good looking art.

Anyway, was reading through the letters at the back of the book, and along with talking about SDCC, winning the Eisner for best new series, there was also talk about it being turned into a TV series.

Still sounds like some bugs need to be worked out, but I think this story could turn into something people would watch.

https://www.deadline.com/2010/07/circle-of-confusion-stephen-hopkins-to-develop-tv-series-based-on-comic-chew/#more-55253

EXCLUSIVE: Circle of Confusion, which is working on its first TV series, AMC’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, is putting together another TV series project based on a comic book, John Layman and Rob Guillory’s Chew. Stephen Hopkins has come on board to direct and executive produce the project, which is in the process of locking in a writer. Chew tells the darkly comic story of federal agent Tony Chu, a “cibopath” able to get psychic impression from the things he eats who is assigned to the most usual and bizarre crimes. “There are a lot of superhero comic books but there are not many food comic books," Layman said. “Food turned out to be a very universal theme embraced by readers.” For Layman, who has been writing comic books since 1995, this marks his first original creation and his first success. “It only took 15 years,” he quipped. Layman is celebrating another anniversary this year – he is heading to Comic-Con for the 20th consecutive year, and this time, he will have a table for Chew following the success of the series’ first two volumes. Circle of Confusion’s partners also will be going to Comic-Con, which will feature a panel for Walking Dead on Friday. The company, which represents many comic book writers, also has Powers, a drama project based on the comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Oeming set up at FX. Kevin Falls is attached as showrunner and Michael Dinner as director. Hopkins has directed the pilots for Fox's 24, Showtime's Californication and ABC's The Unusuals.

Edit:

Awesome cover for the second printing of issue #13.
