Me too. I'd struggle to believe that one of the smaller companies wouldn't touch it considering some of the niche licenses that get made, especially as I imagine that many Dredd film fans are also figure/statue collectors.

I agree, it doesn't make sense.

Medicom made Hit Girl from Kick-Ass 2, plus Playtoy even made a knock-off version.

I'd have thought that Dredd had an even greater prospect of selling and making money considering he's be around since 1977, and considering the international interest shown in the Art Figure. A figure that out pre-orders a Hot Toys Superman must have something going for it.

News just in from the OSW thread:

Yeah -- considering that Dredd must be among the most iconic characters UK has produced, and is known very well around the world. I would personally consider Dr Who a more niche property outside UK, and yet Big Chief's getting lots of orders for their Dr Who figures abroad. With the smaller players including Storm Toys and ASMUS going legit and securing licenses for their figures lately (Rodman for Storm and LOTR for ASMUS), I don't think that the copyright holders of Dredd never received proposals from a 1/6 figure company.

And thanks for the quote updating the status of the figure. I'll post special order at a local store then.

On a sidenote has anyone ever been hit by customs fees ordering from KGHOBBY? My other orders have all been under the threshold but this is the first time I've ordered a boxed fig from them and was wondering whether they mark down or not?

That was my question as well that I posted at a local forum. Ordering from KGHobby would cost me $150 shipped, but then the customs fees is unpredictable. I asked those who have experienced buying boxed sets from overseas and my doubts became valid (knowing how corrupt our local customs is). THe lowest I heard was charged $20, while some were charged as much as the figure's cost.

I asked a local store if he could do special order and he quoted this figure @$180. I guess that's not bad at all, and worth not having the guessing game how much customs would charge me if I get from KGHobby.

I don't know about iconic... outside of the comic-verse few will have heard of him, even with the movies. Dr Who has a cult following, he's way bigger in the collective consciousness. But yeh, I'd be surprised if they'd never received proposals from 1/6 companies also.

Yep $180 seems to be the general ebay price from Hong Kong so that's a good price, avoids the potential custom fees and pain free refund if this doesn't see the light of day. I've ordered one from goodshipped to on ebay for $178, he's always marked stuff down for me but I'm worried I'll end up waiting forever for him to send me one out if he realises he can shift them for an inflated price on release

To avoid fees select the cheaper Hong Kong Post option, not the faster and more expensive option which apparently gets charged for by customs.

When I ordered The Resident Evil 'Zombie Girl' I'd asked them to mark the package as a 'Gift' with a low value. I selected the more expensive shipping, but KG chose to put it on the cheaper one and refunded me the difference to ensure there would be no customs fees.

She arrived with no extra charges.

Thanks a lot man, should be just under £100 shipped if I don't get hit by customs which I'm very happy with

I see. I guess I must be speaking based on my observation locally. Dr Who's becoming more popular here lately though because the TV show seems to appeal to the young (especially young girls swooning over the Doctors).

Right on. I also told the local seller regarding the status and the controversies this figure is having at the moment, and he said I could just transfer the deposit for this to my other Hot Toys pre-orders from him in case the figure won't get made or at least he gets difficulty getting one. Zero risk at all :)

Yup! KGHobby from what I've heard also uses personal name and address as sender, to avoid suspicion that it was bought and not a gift. And no to EMS indeed. HK Post has tracking anyway and is safe. EMS is faster, but is also a faster way to custom's pockets.

That's it - 'EMS' - couldn't remember the name of that particular shipping service.

So, yes, don't select EMS!

So ebay is my best bet then but I am reluctant to preorder anything through them with out seeing the product in hand

if a licensed 1/6 Dredd isn't made, and this AF figure is delivered it is going to go crazy in the secondary market.

this is neither a bootleg nor a knockoff. either would mean that there was something prior to this that they copied.

PEOPLE! WAKE UP! It's NOT gonna happen! Not by Chinese, Ebay, Jesus, or anyone! You can get your hopes up all you want. These Chinese vendors can keep it up for preorder all they want. It doesn't make a bit of difference. 2000AD is NOT, I repeat NOT gonna let some bootleg knockoff get sold for $150 without their approval. It's just NOT gonna happen. If they made one themselves, the thing would be around $250 plus. Unless, the higher ups strike a deal this week...it will be cancelled. The only deal there will be is for Art Figures to pay, and I mean PAY them to use this. If AF has some way of releasing this....they will be sued beyond belief. There has already been a cease and desist order served. So....anyone who has high hopes and dreams of this happening.....forget about it.

blah blah blah...until this gets pulled down or Cancelled, they are getting them....anything that gets made in China is fair game there copyright or not

Are you new? Cease and desist means **** when no one in that country cares. You know how many companies on this very forum got cease and desist orders and still delivered the products?

The Walking Dead comes to mind most recently. Dexter Customs. Breaking Bad. Projects had to stop being public, went underground and now everyone has their figures.

Do you honestly believe this convo took place?

"Hello China, this is a random U.S. lawyer, we need you to send a SWAT team to shut down this action figure toy company. We don't know where they are located at all and it's upto you to find and stop them in a country of billions."

I'll post pics of mine when it arrives to reassure you that you were wrong. :lol

Do you think goodshipped knows something we don't? His listing was a 30 day listing and has 24 days to go and in the listing it says he will have it within 30 days of the listing.

Most ebay sellers who sell PO figures put that in the listing so that it abides to eBay's rule with PO. The figure won't actually be out within 30 days. Policy on eBay is that your PO item on sell must ship within 30 days.

Why would the copyright holder of a product object to bootleggers making bank, without paying for the license to produce a figure that the copyright holder has invested considerable money and time, in developing?
:dunno

I mean come on, artists, musicians, authors, etc would just be paying their bills with that money.. the wrong 'uns!.. Everyone knows the Interwebz means everything should be copyright free.. or at worst, paid for by the Bank of Mom and Pop (ie. interest free with a 'probable no repayments' clause).. I didn't get where I am today by respecting intellectual property!
Thats the problem with these creative types, they are obsessed with money.. whatever happened to artists starving in rat infested tenements?.. look at Van Gogh, topped himself without making any money to speak of.. now that was an artist who appreciated the importance of cheap prints for art fans!
:slap

.......

Wow. I wonder what you do for a living, man. But I think your lack of respect for intellectual property says a lot, and is quite disturbing. And your use of Van Gogh for an example is not applicable as well. You say he appreciated cheap prints for the fans? What fans? He only had very little fanbase WHEN HE WAS ALIVE. Cheap prints? He was DESPERATE. He wanted attention. It was only after he died that people started seeing that there's something good in his art.

I wanted this figure. I would have bought it if it's available -- not because it's cheaper than Hot Toys, not because it's bootlegged. It's because it's a good 1/6 representation of Dredd in the 2012 movie, and it's not like we have other, well, LEGIT choices for a 1/6 Dredd at the moment. But if there was, is, or would be a legit version that would look at least just as good as what AF was supposed to offer us, I'd go for the legit one.

I am bummed that this figure might no longer see the light of day, but I can't blame the copyright owners for doing WHAT IS RIGHT.

First two paragraphs of my last post were H.U.M.O.U.R...

.. just talk us through those two bold segments of your post again.. you are "disturbed" when people do not respect other people's intellectual property BUT you would have bought the bootleg figure.. because it was a good likeness?!
:slap

..oh well that's ok then, good likeness always trumps legality.. rather than waiting for an official release that respects Rebellion's intellectual property.

^^^ ..see below.. vvv

Hey, I apologize if I didn't get your sarcasm -- that was an honest mistake. But you took my words out of context yourself. Wonder if you've gone through the rest of my post before double-posting your gif?

Yup.. I did.. using the fact an official product is not yet available, doesn't look as good or is more expensive, is not a moral carte blanche to buy bootlegs.. and I quoted your entire post, so which bit was out of context?
