Yes. This.

The small file with red marker note about exhaust port would probably get people slightly suspicious.

Right... he records a holographic transmission describing exactly what he's done and gives it to an Imperial pilot who's making a run for it... not suspicious at all.:rotfl

... and yet doesn't send with that pilot the actual small amount of data the Rebellion needs to destroy the DS.:slap

I think we're degrading the "making sense" aspect of RO here - not helping.

I assume you have a job.

Is it easier to send a phone video to a friend badmouthing your employer than to send your friend a list of damaging company trade secrets that come straight out of company servers which log every entry?

Is it easier to send a phone video of your wife talking dirty about your employer to her ex than send a list of real estate reports that come straight out of a trade industry symposium linked to a government security firm that stores keystrokes?

In both cases.... the answer is: really not sure.

:lol

"Maybe" this, "maybe" that - fans can conjecture anything. But the fact is, the actual data Galen needs to send to the Rebellion is quite SIMPLE (as I said - a single sheet of paper would have done it) - hence there was no need for it to be a massive file. You can say other files covered it, making the whole transmission larger, but that's not in the movie.

In my example, if Galen was sending data so the Rebellion could build its own DS (obviously then requiring the entire DS plans), then the data he needs to send is indisputably massive - no matter what. But that's not the case. He's simply telling them about an exhaust port.

By making Galen a Rebel on the inside who engineered the flaw and prepares a file to show the Rebellion that flaw (and had planned to do this for years,) they have fundamentally changed what the rebellion needs to receive - and I notice it the more times I see RO (and then watch ANH.)

The bolded above is incorrect. He likely wasn't even aware of the exhaust port as being a vulnerability. The fatal trap that he laid was in the reactor module itself. As was repeated in the film, one blast to the reactor and the whole station blows up. That's it. No mention of the port.

Erso was banking on the fact that the rebels could figure out a way to detonate a bomb inside the reactor using the plans on Scarif. Transmitting the full plans makes sense.

Could "figure out a way"?

"I've planned this for years, designed this flaw, had it built under extreme risk, created a file with the data for the Rebellion, and sent a transmission to the Rebels to tell them all of this BUT I'm going to "bank" on the Rebels "figuring out a way" to get explosives into the reactor by sending them 1 mega-trillion GB of RAW DATA instead of a simple 'small ship/exhaust port/proton torpedo' explanation that even a five-year-old could grasp." Genius award for Galen!:lol

Look at the schematic CLEARLY SHOWN in ANH - how that exhaust port leads directly, no I mean DIRECTLY.... all... that.... LONG... way... down to the reactor. You're saying Erso's a genius engineer who knows the DS like the back of his hand (and the Rebels know nothing and have no engineering skills in terms of the DS,) and there's a exhaust port that leads a thousand miles DIRECTLY to the fatal flaw he's designed and built... and yet instead, he's going send them a mega-trillion GB of raw data and "bank" on the Rebels "figuring" it out?:horror

When he could have simply said (in the hologram no less...) - "exhaust port sends proton torpedo directly to reactor... boom." No need for the Rebels to dig through a million GB of plumbing layouts of the Death Star, right?

In ANH originally, the Rebels' need to dig through the raw data of the complete DS plans was necessary - they didn't have anyone on the inside and had to actually FIGURE OUT a weakness in its defenses themselves. But RO"s retcon (man on the inside, designed flaw, sending word out to Rebels) changes all of that... and fan enabling aside, it honestly makes little sense now, just like Leia and Vader's now non-sensical dialog in the opening of ANH.

Honestly, they didn't need sweaty unshaven shoot-in-the-back guys to pull this off - the fan enabling could levitate a proton torpedo across the galaxy and into that reactor core.:rotfl

I just saw RO again last night and next I'm taking a look at Saw Gerrera... the diehard militant "extremist" who stages a massive insurgent attack in Jedda City on the same day his men capture an Imperial defector carrying stunning revelations for the Rebellion (existence of DS, ability to destroy it.) A big day for an anti-imperial zealot/militant right? BUT no........ Saw suddenly, on that same day, inexplicably decides he's "tired of running" and commits suicide-by-Death-Star-blast.:slap

And that has NOTHING to do with the fact that he's the ONLY person who can corroborate Galen's hologram transmission, proving Jyn is telling the truth.:rotfl

Lol damn dude, you sure are passionate about this. And yes, simply put, Galen did not know about the port at all. That's fact.

https://mobile.twitter.com/pablohidalgo/status/815770800120676352

I do agree that the Saw thing is nonsensical.

Oh and the opening Vader-Leia scene is so much better now IMO. What's wrong with it?

It's just hilarious that this thread about the JYN ERSO figure has been taken over by the movie discussion. Not that is isn't making an interesting read, but I keep popping by this thread hoping for some fresh images of the figure or some news about it.

Ah well, carry one.... :)

Well with no figure and no updates, there's really nothing left to discuss about it at this point until there is an update. Seems fitting to discuss R1 in the interim. :lol

Right... no passion around here when it comes to Star Wars. Nope.:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

And yes, simply put, Galen did not know about the port at all. That's fact.

No, simply put - just because the geek flunky hired by the Team Disney suits makes up something on the spot to cover their oversight... doesn't make it fact, especially if it doesn't make logical sense.

Someone asked LFL/Disney a VERY logical question (yup, I'm not alone in questioning this.) The info Erso needs to convey to the rebels is really quite simple - Dodonna explains it in the ANH briefing in about 30 seconds. So why didn't Erso just say it in the hologram? The logical answer is "because we wouldn't have a movie" but LFL of course took the "these aren't the droids you're looking for" approach.:lol

So let me get this Twitter revelation straight:

Senior DS engineer spends years designing/building flaw in DS reactor core so Rebels can blow it up, BUT (despite being one of the most senior DS engineers, and working on it, and his sabotage plan, for years) has NO IDEA about an exhaust port/shaft that would lead a Rebel torpedo - straight-line - the entire thousand miles all the way DIRECTLY to the reactor core?

Right... :slap:rotfl

I do agree that the Saw thing is nonsensical.

Don't worry - another Team Disney geek flunky "clarification" is incoming...:lecture

Oh and the opening Vader-Leia scene is so much better now IMO. What's wrong with it?

Discussed several pages back. Leia's soldiers see Vader witnessing the data card being passed through door (so Vader knows its now aboard her ship - he saw it.) So Leia knows Vader that knows it's aboard... and Vader must know she knows that he knows. :lol

In short - Vader knows that it's aboard, and Leia knows that he knows. And if the audience has just seen RO - they know both of these things too.

So the ANH dialog (taking place only a few hours after the RO getaway) now plays like a weird smirking joust between old lovers - and, given that the audience has just seen RO and knows everything as well, also a bit of a waste of screen time.

Leave him. He doesn't believe in the Force.

Oh, he does. He just doesn't believe in the power of Disney Marketing... and its effect on weak minds.:wink1:

Some of you need to get a blog or something.

Some of you need something to do while waiting for figures to show up.:impatient::lol

Oh, how BORING right? Discussing "Rogue One" in great detail in an otherwise pretty dead "waiting for something to happen" thread?

Well with no figure and no updates, there's really nothing left to discuss about it at this point until there is an update. Seems fitting to discuss R1 in the interim. :lol

Not according to Mr. "Get a Room" here. When you don't toe the fan/corporate line, out comes the "what's this doing in this thread?!" and sarcastic "jeez, you sure are passionate!" posts. I like to call them the "Stop Making Sense" posts.

I'm gonna get my Disney Marketing parole revoked again - I just know it.:gah:

Based on what was on the screen alone, he couldn't move fast enough to get out in time. He only just made it to the door when the blast hit.

Right... :slap:rotfl

For what its worth, according to the novelisation, the Catalyst novel and the Art of book, Galen was a Kyber Cyrstal specialist who's area of expertise was harnessing the raw power of the Kyber. He was lead scientist on the team that built the reactor and in effect weaponised the Kyber Krystals. He was not part of the building of the rest of the station and had nothing to do with that. The movie stated he was a weapons specialist.

Yes, he's a ruthless extremist Rebel militant - presumably hunted relentlessly by the Empire - who has no fast way of even exiting his own hideout.:rotfl

I mean seriously - you can't make this stuff up. Well, okay - maybe LFL's geek guru can. But only on Twitter so it becomes fact.:monkey4

Hey, maybe they thought Saw's "I'm tired of running" line covered it - people are always like "hurry up and move your slow cyborg *ss, Saw!"... and he got tired of running, even if it was from a superlaser blast.:dunno

"nothing to do with that" - :lol

Yeah. Just like the guys who enrich the Uranium have absolutely, positively "nothing to do with" designing the bomb.:slap

For what it's worth, officially, weapons specialist Galen "SUPERVISED the installation where development research was done for the Death Star's SUPERLASER," which is the KEY component of the Death Star and its sole reason for being - something which runs through the entire facility and comprises probably 50% of the whole structure. The rest... is admin window dressing around a moving superlaser, right?

But no, Galen would have had nothing to do with the design of that whole "Death Star" thing - whatever that was.

And I'm SURE there were no DS plans available in the facility where they were developing the Death Star's superweapon for Galen to take a few minutes to look for a way for the rebellion torpedo to reach the reactor core. You know, like for example an exhaust port shaft that happens to go the thousand miles in a straight line from the surface to the core? But hey, it's not like he was working on this project for YEARS.

Now who's putting their own spin on things to suit the narrative they want? But that's cool. I see what you're doing :wink1:

Now who's putting their own spin on things to suit the narrative they want? But that's cool. I see what you're doing :wink1:

Umm... I was actually quoting Wookiepedia and the cross sections book, but whatever.:lol

And... Saw? Seriously? How is that "spin"? That's exactly how he's portrayed in the movie. The terrifying baddest of the bad, ruling the baddest of the bad with an iron fist, plotting major attacks against the Empire. But you said he "couldn't move fast enough" and "only just made it to the door.":rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Yeah that's cool, retcon away - but it's gotta sorta kinda make some sense though.:lecture

Well, you're selectively quoting while sprinkling with a large dose of your own spin but I get it :wink1:

Wonder how Saw goes in the one legged race with that other badest of the bad, rules with an Iron Fist, Jabba? If the emperor joins the race does he use a zimmer frame or does he cheat and use the force?
