The only comparisons that matter are the CP statue to the big museum statue. It doesnt really matter what it looks like next to any other statue. There is a small statue at the giger museum that has all those "viens" on it. On the back, well picking the back when there are no pictures of the back of the museum piece to compare to is hard to address because we have no pics of the statue to compare to. If you look at the aliens(2) suit the nubs are not THAT detailed, albeit a bit longer, either way that matters not because this is not a copy of that either and it wasn't even done by Giger. Did they clean the 3d scan up? Of coarse they did, its not cleaned up because the scanner was cheap. Most 3D scanners even handheld have way better than 1mm resolution. This is a piece for public consumption so yes they cleaned up his scrotum warts. Did we really want a statue with these broken tubing lines? or the warts he has on his junk? Some may I guess. Did they smooth down his (sounds like) peanut head? Probably but that may be due to it becoming a pornography thing but that's just my guess. They maybe would have had issues with SS selling it. I don't know their pornography threshold. I am guessing most of the body smoothing was to satisfy the majority of the buyers who after dishing out $1800 wouldn't want a rough as heck looking (albeit wrong in our anl OCD minds) statue and also to make the molding process go a little smoother (no pun intended) All the shapes and details of the tubes are there. Its just not as rough looking as the original. This is a company making a 1000 statues they will have to sell to mostly non OCD detail freaks, not us who want every single imperfection. (not that there is anything wrong with that) So Ok ill give you, its not rough and nasty like the original.

and yes I misspelled biceps

Okay, this is my last post on this topic.

@Zombie

I see you didn't have any problem tearing into the Wolf Predator Bust's lack of detail, also produced by Coolprops.

Darkmummy almost hit the nail on the head about the loss of detail with his comment, but the fact is, ADI isn't letting Coolprops mould these super rare props. Nope, but they do let them scan them. That's why the detail isn't there in the Predator bust, and why it isn't here on the Alien suit (and no, I'm not talking about the damage.)

They're never going to let anybody cast the original suit, and it wouldn't be in a fit enough condition to do so anyway. The details may not be as sharp as they could be, but this is arguably the most impressive Alien statue we've ever seen, along with the Mamegyorai which I actually prefer. Comparing this to the CM isn't really wise, I like the CM, I really do. But it has aged somewhat and it's details are lacking, and they were heavily stylised to begin with. This is leagues ahead imo whether the detail is soft or not. And as pointed out previously, this is a replica of the suit in the museum as it stands today, CP made that clear and I understand it isn't for everybody due to that. Coolprops are all over the place and very inconsistent, I'll happily critisise them when it's deserved, but they did pretty well with this one imo and I really like it, for those who don't, there is the Mamegyorai and the upcoming Prime 1 version which will be produced in 1/3 and 1/4.... Or there's this of course. https://www.sideshowtoy.com/collectibles/alien-alien-warrior-mythos-sideshow-collectibles-4003171/ :wacky

Computerfly the difference is on a 1:1 scale bust 1mm details make a big difference and you can see it from feet away. On a 1/3 scale piece a 1mm difference is actually .33mm once scaled. On a lifesize bust the details make a huge difference. On a 1/3 scale piece. You can barely see it unless your 1ft away and you have to have your head halfway up its butt to notice.

I very seriously doubt that is a suit at the Giger museum. The original suit was latex and that stuff tends to break down pretty quickly. I think parts of it were up for auction not too long ago? Who knows what Giger did to that casting. It also looks like it was covered in latex and 'webbed' meaning a spiderweb like texture achieved by rubbing small holes in the latex.

hope the wait won't be too long, i just wished they did the same paintjob as on the picture. This is one of the many costume used on the set

I'm a big Alien fan, but I have neither the disposable income for expensive statues such as this, nor the inclination to collect statues.
So regard my opinion as that of a fan, with no ulterior motive.

Form the pics, the sculpt does look very soft. If I compare the level of detail on this to the Mamegyorai piece, there would seem to be no contest. And the Mamegyorai is based on the suit, not the statue, which -being the original from whence the suit was cast- should be much sharper in detail.

As far as I know, the piece exhibited at the museum is the original Giger statue. It was "sculpted" with plasticene (modelling clay) and bones on a cast made of Bolaji Badejo's body. According to Giger, he sculpted half of the body, and Eddy Butler (a sculptor working in the production) sculpted the other half copying what Giger had done.
Of course, the materials used probably weren't meant to last, so the statue must be pretty beat up, unless they've done some major restoration and conservation on it (which I doubt).

Sorry that’s not a costume...the costume was based on the maquette and had the telltale gloves, head w carapace, body suit etc that are all disintegrated now... but there are still remnants. I’m sure that’s a custom —looks like it’s made in foam latex

I may be completely wrong as I have not been to the museum however I think the statue is the original fibreglass statue that I went to Gigers house to mould before the museum opened,he said he wanted new moulds to produce pieces for the museum he was creating. This statue was cast in clear poly and had then been painted over by Giger and if I remember right still had Bolaji's head cast attached and used to support the Alien head. The fingernails were all added separately as were the toenails.I am guessing it came from the blue silicone moulds that they originally tried to make a transparent suit from before that did not work and they went for the laytex suit and the plaster moulds. This would make sense as some of you have already pointed out a laytex suit from 1978/79 would be in a shocking state now I would have thought.I am only talking about this statue and nothing else at the museum.

From CoolProps-
"At the H.R. Giger exhibition held in Japan known as “H.R. GIGER EXHIBITION IN JAPAN 87”, the Alien statue on display was made from the screen-used suit for the movie “ALIEN”. Many fans were fascinated with its beauty still hold this Alien display as a holy grail.
30 years have passed by since the exhibition and this Alien statue is now welcoming the visitors at Museum HR Giger in Switzerland."

So it's a statue from 1987.

A little is ok but they are so heavy-handed, it looks stupid. And I still think the ADI maquette doesn't look right.

I totally agree that if it's done "heavy handed" that it can look bad, obviously.

Mine converted, didn't take long. I've got a couple of days now to figure out whether to let the order stick or not. I'd like to as it's a beautiful representation of one my favorite character, but I've got so much to pay for currently so I may wait and see what Prime 1 can do....

It’s listed for pre-order now on Sideshow.

Yeah, I'm cancelling mine then as it seems I have more time to think after all. Sideshow need to be way more clear with their wait list system. I:E is it actually gone, or are you just awaiting a new batch etc etc....
