Some people may have even been confused as to what character it was if they stuck to the traditional..

It has its embellishments. This new S is practically a 20 year old comic accurate design.
Yes, it is from Kingdom Come. Printed in 1996. An Elseworld's story part of DC. And a much OLDER version of Superman. A One off, as you will. Not part of any main DC continuity. Earth-22. How many people/normie fans could tell you what Kingdom Come was if asked?
James Gunn just being James Gunn and doing something to put his stamp on it. So people know this is HIS take on Superman.
Brandon Routh also wore it on TV. To show he was a Superman from a different Multiverse. Not the main timeline.

So it's been used on screen before and it's not specific to James Gunn? So it's not really him putting his stamp on it as such and claiming it as his own? He's just pulling from the rich history of Superman.

How many people watched the "Crisis On Infinite Earth's" Arrowverse crossover? On the terrible CW channel? When every show has been cancelled and it was reported the channel was losing tons of money year over year and never actually profitable.
It's still very obscure compared to a movie that will be released worldwide. I didn't mean he created it. But if his movie is a success, it is HIS version of Superman people will cheer. SO it will be a different take that he used on screen for the "S" logo.

jumping to the discussion, I'm still curious about the "no heart" thing...
what is heart? the romanticize? the flamboyant? the feel good nature escapism? cheerfulness? Don't get me wrong, i LOVE Reeve movies, but i'm also a big Superman readers for more than 25 years. They able to present (through different eras) so many facet of Superman and the material was so rich that they have almost covered so many things about the character and his psyche.
If the definition of heart, means: no inner conflict, struggles, thankfulness, failure, rising above, gratefulness, warmness, strive to do the right thing, and hope for the best... then what is?
And? It's still obvious its Superman. I don't get the reaction to it. I would prefer a more traditional S, but it's not a big deal.
I doubt it has anything to do with Kingdom Come, and they were simply going for a modernized take on the original S shield from the comics that had the yellow outline around it. Since this is supposed to be a younger Superman just starting out.
Only problem is I barely see any "S" in it at all, and if it wasn't for the colors and familiar diamond shape I'd barely know this was even a Superman symbol.

My point is, as pointed out above, it could be confusing to some.
I guarantee that if someone put this new logo next to Snyder logo in a printed image and walked out on the street in L.A.or some big populated place and asked people "which symbol is Superman", like 90% would point to the Snyder logo and only maybe 10% would know enough to say both are Superman's logo.
Not saying people are dumb, but not enough would know the difference. Never a smart business move to confuse your consumer.
In isolation people might not get it, although the S is so iconic I think most will be able to figure it out. But it's going to be on a guy who wears blue tights and a red cape in a film called Superman.
Let's see what the marketing is going to be. For now it's just Gunn dropping bits and pieces and most people wouldn't have seen it.

They were clever to frame it in yellow as it makes the ‘S’ a lot more obvious to the general public that way.
According to the rating it was a average of 2.5 million people who watched each episode. With the Flash episode being the highest at 2.7million and Legends of tomorrow lowest at 2.4 million. That doesn't account for streaming just live viewings and DVR viewings.
You say every show was canceled like they were horrible and only last a year, but most ran for several years before ending.

I'm not saying all these shows were great, or stayed great for their entire run. Just answering your question and showing that the number of people is more then you suggest, and the shows were around a lot longer then what you allude to.
