You know, looking around at my Black Series/Figuarts collection, you'd be forgiven for thinking that I like the prequels, sequels and TV shows. Au contrare! What I actually like is the costume design and some of the characters, regardless of whatever story they're in. I own a lot of Phase 2 Clones, but, that is because I like their design, no more, no less. I've developed a thing for trooper designs and collect the ones I like.

Apart from Mace, Jedi figures don't interest me unless they have someone to fight. We haven't seen the 'someone to fight' in The Acolyte yet, so the wave of figures we've seen don't really excite me.

If I want a Star Wars fix, I can revisit all the movies that I did enjoy

This is gonna be hot garbage

Most creatives only really tell one kind of story over and over again ( i.e. Michael Mann, it's "Cat And Mouse", James Gunn, it's discovering you need an ad-hoc dysfunctional surrogate family, etc, etc)

For Headland, based on what I've seen of Russian Doll, it's going to be ego death. This is a good cast. Yes, it's gotten cornered by DEI/ESG mandates, just to get the practical green light and financing, but it's still a pretty skilled set of performers here. Lee Jung-jae is not an American household name, but Headland picked him as a dual benefit of being a real writer to bolster her ranks. He's more than capable of carrying this show. Whether it happens, is another matter entirely.

I'm going to speculate here for a second, based on Russian Doll, and the way it handled it's character study ( Show wasn't my cup of tea, but it was not easy to make something like that. You need high investment in a show bible/character bible to lay a story like that out and translate it to a casual audience) My take is Headland's big question about the Star Wars Universe is how did the Jedi get basically hoodwinked in the Prequel Trilogy. She's trapped by canon, so the only answer left, without totally emasculating the Jedi Order, is sheer raw hubris.

The arrogance in thinking young Anakin needed no further handling and care after attempting to deny him and then relenting to allow Obi Wan to train him. Too arrogant to see that they should have stood firm in not allowing Anakin to train, even with Qui Gonn's memory and their respect for him in play. Having all the Council essentially fall into dogmatic methodology that did not adapt to the times and circumstances around them, there was no "10th Man" to keep them honest about the practical reality in the geopolitical situation around them. That's a diplomatic way to say the Jedi Council needed a Baylan Skoll in the worst way. Sometimes you just need a straight up mercenary to do the ugly things and tell people that their newborn babies are really horrid looking. Ki-Adi Mundi was, unfortunately, written as the "sin eater" for the unchecked narcissism within the Jedi Council. It was how Palpatine was able to manipulate them so well. ( We can't just assess Palpatine as cunning and Machiavellian in a vacuum, there have to be real systemic flaws in the Jedi tone and culture that foreshadows their coming slaughter)

Headland can actually write. She's not a great interview though. Maybe this translates. It's not a bad bet at this point. I can see why she was chosen even outside the DEI/ESG mandates. Be interesting to see how it all turns out.

Because they're aliens and aliens aren't people.

Arguably the third best SW film of all time (Rogue One) didn't have a white male as part of its ensemble cast of heroes but it worked because it was in capable hands and looked awesome from the get go. I can't say either for The Acolyte.
Oh yes my friend. If you remember, Rogue One was panned before it came out for being "woke" and slammed on this very forum for being a story "no one needed or cared about"....I remember well, and the back peddling was painful for some, but it was undeniable.

Which is why I always say....wait for judgement till we actually see it, rather than pre judge based on 2 minutes of footage.

But we know, here, (and on the glorious YouTube troll vids) the jump to condemn it based on some silly agenda is always fresh on the lips of some our fellow boardies.

This show isn't called Andor season 2 so I'll be skipping it. Well, even if I was still watching the Star Wars shows (that aren't Andor season 2) I'd still skip this on principle anyway given the showrunner was Weinstein's PA and you can't convince me she didn't regularly lead young actresses to be fed to him.

My biggest gripe is that this means there’ll be a slew of Hot Toys figures of this crap, pushing back any prime OT stuff (Boushh Leia, Bespin Han etc) even further. I’d like those before I die please.

Weird… I don’t recall that before RO came out but I don’t remember a lot :lol

I find it weird with the whole “story doesn’t need to be told part” I was all in and never gave the cast a 2nd thought other than it was another female lead.

Now the makers of RO didn’t run around talking about their personal lives or views so that might be why I thought nothing of the cast.

There is just too much self insert with a lot of these movies. Just tell a good story that serves the SWU. I don’t care who you cast then. Please stop giving multimillion dollar projects to people with little or no experience in front of or behind the camera because when the final product ends up being bad you can’t help but think it’s someones stupid agenda.

Of course Disney has not had a hard time admitting there is one So if it looks, smells, and walks like a duck and then they flat out tell you they are a duck.., Well I guess you’re a duck :lol

So there is plenty of reasons to have no faith in this show.

It’s been 8 years since RO. There have been far more misses than hits since then.

So good money is on this show being poorly written and directed with a not so hidden agenda.

I’ll be happy to find out I’m wrong.

For the record I didn’t think the trailer looked bad but it didn’t really show much and I’ve been burnt by solid D+ trailers before :(

I’ll wait till word of mouth tells me it’s good. I’m so done with wasting my time on D+ tv shows.

I’m watching.

Unfortunately Star Wars is my heroin I just wish Disney would stop polluting it with fentanyl lol

I feel the same way and like a junkie I’ll probably get the shakes and end up watching it after three episodes drop.

The self abuse of the addict is real.

I just really hate giving D+ the views lol

I'm going to watch this thread.

In the unlikely event it gets favourable reviews from people whose taste more or less aligns with mine, I'll check it out -- but won't waste time on it otherwise.

The teaser video by Screen Crush has me looking a little more forward to this show. Well, not exactly forward. Bit more of a side glance.

Maybe you should take your own advice... Geriatric Jones and the Dud of Disney...

"Impossible to fail."

Time to jump off your high horse and look in the mirror.

The Jedi suck in general. A whole show about them? Yikes.

Acolyte - a person assisting the celebrant in a religious service or procession.
  • an assistant or follower

Great idea for Star WARS.

Ah yes, more random nobody characters to fill the pegs.

Target, Walmart and GameStop are filled with the following,

But yeah, let’s add more to the mix. Who are these people? Cosplayers of robed weirdos and politicians, why? The colors are so drab too. Just uninteresting, uninspired and boring.
