I think they used the “atomics” as an out to shorten the battle sequence.

Shame because just another 10 minutes…TEN FREAKING MINUTES…would’ve given it its Rogue One ending to elevate this movie into masterpiece history.

The Chani ending didn’t bug me though because he specifically told her that he still belonged to her plus he didn’t go right into the arms of the princess nope my man went straight into holy war lol

Still give it a 9 out 10.

I’m going again today with JAWS and Wor-Gar true story!

Three individuals holding hands and crying in a movie theater. Great! :ROFLMAO:

Yes the finale really needed 10 more minutes of satisfying Worm carnage.

If I remember correctly the book also had Gurney calling smugglers to do battle with the Emperor's ships in space during the final attack so this really could have been the greatest third act in the history of cinema and to have Denis just punt that opportunity away was a real shock to me.

I thought Paul and Chani hiding behind the legs of the spice harvester while trying to take out the one lone ornithopter was a more exciting sequence than the finale which is crazy. I wonder if it was simply a run time issue where the studio forced Denis to cut the length down and he refused to remove any story so we lost action scenes instead.

I didn't think that Florence Pugh was the best choice for Irulan but ended up thinking she did a great job.

Ughhh

Saturday ruined now :gah:

Mando S3 had a longer end battle!

I think even The Marvels had a longer end battle :slap
Judging from the clips in the Pitch Meeting I think Madame Web did too. :monkey1

But I suppose that's to be expected in a story about some girls hanging out in street clothes versus an entire planetary conflict that determines the fate of the universe, lol.

Holy holy crap lol

There’s 100x more action in the movie than there is in the book though lol.
Not the finale. I know that Herbert didn't spend pages and pages describing all the details of the final battle/Fremen attack but what he did describe could have easily taken up 30-40 minutes of screen time if Denis wanted to give us a ROTK/ROTJ/RO/Avatar type finale.

One other criticism: This really needed an R-rating. The constant stabbings with no blood kept taking me out of the movie. I kept being made hyper-aware of the film's rating rather than just being immersed in the conflict.

Denis Villeneuve has said that there won’t be any deleted scenes on the home video release. Once he cuts something out of the Final Cut, he considers it dead. So wouldn’t expect any kind of director’s cut in the future because we already got it. The only thing I could maybe see them doing is splicing parts 1 and 2 together into an epic 6 hour film but even that seems unlikely.
Sad to hear that. Right before Paul leaves the company of Stilgar there’s a few creatures mentioned like the centipedes both large and small. Those things we didn’t get to see. I’m sure that scene or segment would be on film. Too bad it won’t be added to a “Director’s Cut. Oh well, I’ll just have to take what I got then and be happy with it. I am. It was a wonderful movie in a world of bad ones…

Things that could’ve made it better for sure:

1. Longer end battle with worms
2. More blood
3. More creepy creatures fighting humans or being used on humans
4. Kaiju battle lol

And Paul's harem, lol.

(In the book Paul inherited Jamis' wife (wives?) and sons after killing him in battle. Modern audiences would have loved to see that on screen, lol.)

Damn not even a SINGLE space dogfight was shown :gah:

Not even some Harkonen stealth bombers flying high in the atmosphere above the colosseum during the gladiator battle.
