So the movie about Rey, directed by an activist director with little experience directing big budget films, who wants to make men feel uncomfortable? "About time we had a woman shaping the stories"
Is this satire?

I'm watching Andor season 2 and that's it, I'm done with Star Wars after that, so I was never going to see this movie. I don't have any personal stake in how this movie turns out but still, are they serious with this? They're coming across as zealots.

Yes, I’m sure her movie will strike an excellent balance between capable and interesting male and female characters. With no personal bias whatsoever.

The movie doesn’t need to be about being a female Jedi. It needs to be about being a Jedi, who happens to be female. Maybe focus on making Rey an actual character this time around.

For anyone that hasn’t seen:

"You will look into the mirror and not like the reflection"
Oh yeah, perfect director for a Star Wars movie.

"I like making men uncomfortable...not you though!"

Say what you ******* mean then. You like to make A hole, misogynists uncomfortable to get your point across and the rest of us are fine. This kind of non-specific generalization against all men **** drives young guys to go watch Andrew Taint! And women like her wonder why misogyny is on the rise in young boys. Well done!

Edit: 'a**hole' automatically gets corrected to 'fine fellow' :lol

But then you also have ask WHY is she making movies for these people, instead of making a movie for the other 99% of the audience that’s actually there hoping to experience a good film.

Those people aren’t going to like your movies no matter what you do, so stop trying to simultaneously appease and agitate them.

It’s so backwards.

She's an activist. She wants to get in their faces and in their content so they have to see it but it's just driving other people away.

It's like the stop oil protesters blocking the roads. You're not winning people over and getting them to support you by inconveniencing them.

Exactly.

The best way to win people over is by making a good ******* movie.

It's a tough thing to crack though. If she went and made a chick flick with the same kind of themes, the guys she wants to make uncomfortable wouldn't go see it, so it wouldn't get the point across. This way does for a little while, but then you push the rest of the audience away and everybody stops watching.

Well, if nobody watches it then nobody can complain about it :dunno

:lol

I'm all for social commentary and raising awareness in films, look at Robocop and it's satire of Capitalism, but that was done in a genius way. They're too heavy handed in their commentary around it and it's getting a lot of push back because of their 'my way or the highway' attitude.

Can you imagine Stan Lee in the 60's creating the X-Men as a parallel to the Civil Rights movement and coming out in interviews saying "I want to make white people uncomfortable!" :slap

Yes, the results gleaned from open, in your face antagonism will apparently surprise these people. And there are very real consequences to it all on the larger scale outside just the arts and entertainment arena. I probably can't risk being any more specific. But these activists seriously need to reconsider their approach......or carry on shooting themselves and their causes in the foot.

Make me uncomfortable, but if your whole point is to make me uncomfortable then you've lost me. I'm not seeing your movie.
A favorite movie of mine is Fried Green Tomatoes. Far from being a movie geared towards me. Saw it by accident. Movie we wanted to see was packed, so we had some time to kill and snuck in to this one for some odd reason. Saw about a third of it and got kicked out 'cause we didn't pay for it. I was so bummed we got kicked out that we ended up going to see it the following week. Don't know if the makers of this movie had an agenda or not, but they had a damn good story with characters that made me care.

I just hope Hamill doesn't lend himself to this drivel again, his likeness or his voice (as force ghost).
Though Disney likely already own his cg likeness, and can pull soundbites to have it say anything they need.

Force Ghost Luke: ROTJ: "I was a Jedi like my father befo...."
Rey: "Men, that is why you all failed, and I had to re-kill the re-emperor, another man for you"
Force Ghost Luke: "No that was just terrible writing "
Force Ghost Leia: Slaps Force Ghost Luke.
Trans-handicapable-afro-filipino-gay-neon-haired Jedi: Now you're uncomfortable, cause brave, stunning women are speaking and now we are rebuilding the Jedi you failed! And if you don't love it you are a proven bigot!
Cue : John Williams theme.
