Personally I'm fine with a more idealized version after checking out the real thing again and seeing how rough and asymmetrical they were up close. I love that asymmetry on the Vader helmet and think it's necessary to properly capture the character, but with the Stormtroopers I just don't see the need for that level of accuracy.

I prefer they ave kept the proto helmet, that was idealized as well but better looking than this one.

So there I was last night... admiring my HotToys Vader and then it happened.

Preordered four regular versions of these.

Popcultcha's pricing of the standard edition of this new Stormtrooper sucks: BBTS had it on pre-order for $190 USD (or $266 AUD), whereas down here they've tagged it at $320 AUD ($227 USD). Exchange rate notwithstanding, that obliterates the lower price point Hot Toys no doubt intended with this edition.

The deluxe, you ask? $400 AUD ($284 USD). So much for anyone who was hoping to build a Stormtrooper squad down here, let alone an army.

I don't understand why they didn't use the files/scans that were created for StarWars BattleFront. They had the license and made figures for their Video Game line, I doubt it would have been out of the question. The helmets used for the game are the ROTJ versions, slightly idealized, but you can still clearly tell they are ROTJ. They honestly make they ROTJ helmets look great. Although I do like the new versions, it's so irritating how Hot Toys has access to SO much research and reference and still will not use them. As nicely made as they are, and will be, why not go the extra mile and make this as amazing as they could be? It's endlessly frustrating.

One of the most striking things that are off about the new HT helmet is the distance between the eyes and mouth/grill, it's much too wide.
