OMG Khev gave Rian Johnson ideas for TLJ or Rian reads this forum and stole Khev's ideas or Khev is on the story group for LFL :horror

It's good that I'm not in the story group because I was quite vocal about RO and Solo being terrible ideas for movies prior to each film's release, lol.

Khev at home thinking about IX:

Is that from the new Power Rangers movie? :lol

On another note it looks like I'll be able to catch Hereditary tonight and since it's $5 Tuesday (with a day off tomorrow) I see that the auditorium is already filling up so I should get the packed house experience. :rock

Oh man might have to cancel plans with the wife if i’m getting a Khev Hereditary review tonight!

Hey some things are just more important than dinner with the wife. :lol

Must activate the emergency JAWS/Rushmore/Junkion response system.

Rey's saber practice mirrors Kylo's fighting style vs Luke:

So apparently, it's now canon that Rey "downloaded" Kylo's skills when he linked with her in TFA, explaining her quick growth in adeptness with the Force and lightsabers.

The part about her downloading information is in the comments section.

Thank you very much for posting this, e30ernest!

Every time I've watched TLJ, I've wondered what was behind Hamill's expression as Luke observed Rey practicing with the saber. I wondered what Johnson told him in order to capture that reaction because it seemed more than just mere surprise, curiosity, or being impressed. It always came across to me as more like being unsettled, and I never really understood that. This would make sense now as the specific reason for Luke to turn and walk away feeling disturbed and unsettled. I just never put the pieces together (damn it!). I'm not entirely convinced that the Rey/Kylo saber-wielding symmetry was intentional, but if it it was . . . bravo! I really appreciate that type of subtlety as an artistic tool used in presenting a visual story.

It would also add even more impact to Luke Force-destroying the hut when he sees Rey and Kylo touching hands. And more reason why he needed Yoda's reassurance that Rey wasn't doomed to go down the same path as Kylo, especially if Luke wouldn't abandon her completely. All of this stuff would speak to how hard, and how personally, Luke took losing his nephew to the Dark Side - and therefore why he would be so determined not to let it happen again.

No matter what, I do like the fact that the TLJ novelization is apparently more explicit about Rey's "downloading" from Kylo in TFA (I really need to start reading the novels). Her saber skills never bothered me too much because we see her expertly using her staff on Jaaku, but the mind tricking of the Stormtrooper to escape her cell on Starkiller base never sat well with me. Not that I particularly like this Matrix-style "I know kung fu!" explanation, but I guess it's better than the nothing that TFA provided as a rationale.

One thing I really love about Rey and Luke's "duel" shortly after that scene is that when she blindsides him and knocks him down she stands over him with her staff in the exact same position as when she stood over Finn after knocking him down on Jakku. But instead of being defeated like Finn he just grabs a stick of his own and absolutely owns her until she "cheats" with the lightsaber.

Then she briefly points the saber at him mimicking Vader's "you are beaten" stance which must have been quite the chilling experience for Luke.

Interesting idea on Luke watching Rey and not being taken aback that she was simply swinging her sword around but that he recognized moves that were previously unique to Ben Solo. Don't know if it was intended or not but I like it! :rock

Yeah, I can't say enough good things about the Rey/Luke duel right before she leaves Ahch-To. I hadn't picked up on the "you are beaten" visual, though. Good call!

And to your last point about Luke watching the Rey saber practice: yeah, I guess whether it was intentional or not doesn't change the fact that those elements are all still there and left to our interpretation . . . and enjoyment. :hi5: I'd obviously prefer if it was a deliberate directorial choice, but there's still nothing to contradict this interpretation.

Hehe I just found it on my news feed. I thought people here might appreciate it. :D

I didn't read the novels either (I probably should). But I believe the part about her downloading Kylo's skills were from the TFA novel.

I'd obviously prefer if it was a deliberate directorial choice, but there's still nothing to contradict this interpretation.

I'm leaning towards this being a deliberate directorial choice. Fight choreography is no simple thing. They would have practiced and refined their movements repeatedly until they got it right. The similarities would have had to be deliberate.

I don't drop into this thread often because it's like stepping into an endless bizarre loop, so I'm late in discovering that Franken Spazz has finally gone. Took long enough. :lol

I don't know who Spazz is, but how did you know he was Frankenberry? Was it his IP or something? If he was circumventing a previous ban then that's a bad thing, but if he was a totally different person, then this might be unfair.

It was evident months ago. Who else here refers to Noam Chomsky in their posts? It was intriguing to see just how long he'd be allowed to remain.

I'm surprised he lasted this long because he certainly wasn't making any attempt to conceal himself.

sorry for trolling these threads. sorry if i ever annoyed you guys,
take care guys. good luck. good bye everyone. ill miss you guys.

Even as someone who didn't get to interact much with crows, I will definitely miss reading his posts. Whether I was agreeing or disagreeing as I read them, I appreciated how lively he made threads like this one. I'm hoping this is just a gag, and that crows will be back posting on a regular basis; but if not, this is a serious bummer. Crows makes/made this place more fun for me to visit.

Yeah I quite enjoyed messing with crows hopefully all will be resolved and forgiven and the master of conspiracy theories will find their way back on here lol
