Where's the tension in that? Where's the emotional investment come in? It doesn't.

If that's what happens, they are just following the comic storyline

But I understand what you are saying. With "rewind" in play, nothing ever has full emotional impact.

This review caught me off guard. I thought for sure you'd hate this one because of how messy it was structure-wise.

Was it a mess structure wise?

I thought it was a pretty simple narrative to follow all centered on the stone locations.

Despite knowing a sequel was coming, they did such a good job of making you think at a few points the fight was won because you couldn’t conceive in the moment how it could go any other way.

I will say I was let down that the group shot from the trailer was fake, and I’m curious to see where the 3 part Banner/Hulk arc ends in Avengers 4, while screen time bothered me, I do feel that between Ragnarok and now this, they’re exploring some interesting things.

Hated Loki dying but thought it was well handled and loved him using Stark’s words, we have a Hulk.

On first viewing I was upset over no Hulk on the battlefield.

After 2nd viewing I now appreciated the focus on giving Banner a time to shine as a hero.

That gives Hulk a stronger foundation when he is Hulk.

Thankfully they opened the movie with a brief yet very sweet Hulk vs Thanos fight.

Does anyone else think it would be awesome if...

Marvel completely subverted everyone’s expectations and all the changes stuck? If Black Panther 2 created an entirely new dynamic where we were watching Wakanda pick up the pieces post-Infinity War with Shuri as next in line to the throne reluctantly taking up the mantle of the Black Panther, if Spider-Man 2 has Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man, the next Doctor Strange having Wong trying to reconcile himself as the new Sorcerer Supreme, and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 pulling an about-face and flipping the comics timeline on its head so that Peter and his crew were the original Guardians and the second iteration of the team is Stallone and his crew of Ravagers. I imagine everybody would lose their ****, but no one would ever be able to accuse Marvel of not having any balls, anymore.

If that was the direction this was going, I'd eat my proverbial hat and re - evaluate this movie.
It would indeed be a bold, unprecedented move.

But that is NOT what will happen.

This was a hell of a ride. The event where all of the action figures are dumped into the sandbox.

Now, I hate to be the geek with the preconceived notions, but I do have two issues:

Other than Red Skull, I was disappointed there weren’t any twists or surprises that weren’t in the trailers. Besides the Hulk thing, the trailer, stretched out, is what we got.

It also didn’t have the balls to kill off the characters in unique or shocking ways. We know they’re all coming back anyway, at least give their deaths some dramatic weight. The dust raptures for most of them was lazy. Only Gamora and Loki had good send offs.

people keep complaining about the Dust ending problem... that it was lame or anticlimactic or that it didnt have any weight.

But you guys have to remember that a lot of kids are going to see this movie. .... the directors are obviously thinking that they dont want to traumatize any kids.

as stupid and cliche and dumb as this sounds, as Obvious as it sounds, I think it bears repeating because if the deaths were more graphic or more sad or more tragic,
you would have theaters full of thousands of kids screaming their heads out.

who wants to see their favorite heroes get gruesome deaths (Even by pg 13 standards) the "dust" issue was probably their most respectful way to get rid of things, the least horrific way to get it over with.

In terms of the stone locations, not really. I was talking about how everyone was going back and forth from location to location to the point where I occasionally forgot who was where and why. I can't for the life of me remember how...

people keep complaining about the Dust ending problem... that it was lame or anticlimactic or that it didnt have any weight.

But you guys have to remember that a lot of kids are going to see this movie. .... the directors are obviously thinking that they dont want to traumatize any kids.

Agreed, that was one of the best.

Even though I didn't like the movie, I thought the Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy meet up and eventual team up of Thor, Rocket and Groot was completely solid.

Might as well use the stones to massively lower birthrates for all higher lifeforms instead. Would make us last a lot longer than one 50% cleave.

Make half the universe sterile?

Exactly. My showing was packed with tons of kids that kept gasping at what was shown.

Dr Strange saw it in his vision that this is the only way to win. I think Nebula is key to defeating Thanos, she's going to work with the good guys now and she knows something about Thanos that others don't.

Dr Strange made sure to save Stark and give the time stone to Thanos. I think Thanos is meant to reverse time so Vision's body is still intact, while saving Stark to make sure he can fix him. Without the time stone Vision would have been decimated by Scarlet Witch. Also notice that Black Panther's sister downloaded some info from the mind stone right before the Black Order interrupted her, with Stark back they can rebuild Vision without the actual stone, so Vision is probably also key to defeating Thanos.

As for the dust, those who were randomly selected simply cease to exist, the dust is meant to be a non violent way for them to go, they weren't actually killed off. Loki and Gamora probably did get a real death like Quicksilver did, so there are still impactful death, the most in any Marvel movies so far.

Also Peter Parker has spider sense which is why he's the only one who really reacted to being decimated. His Spider sense pretty much tells him he will cease to exist in 10 seconds, so he freaked out. Everyone else only finds out as they are disappearing.

is it possible for Groot to grow back from the Stormbreaker?

They can't kill Tony or Steve yet. They have to make up first. I predict Cap will "die" in A4....he'll get the red skull treatment, go away for a while until the actor wants to come back eventually.

As far as Thanos' plan, why not t expand the universe instead with the IG?

People keep justifying the complete lack of quiet character moments or proper development by the fact that this was Thanos' movie. And its true, Thanos' scenes were the best ones in this film. But can anyone see how having a film in which all character development is reserved for the antagonist, with our heroes (the people who we as the audience see ourselves through) only appearing as storytelling props used to get us to the next action scene (even though a lot of these people we haven't seen in years and have no clue where their head is at) is an extremely flawed movie?

People keep justifying the complete lack of quiet character moments or proper development by the fact that this was Thanos' movie. And its true, Thanos' scenes were the best ones in this film. But can anyone see how having a film in which all character development is reserved for the antagonist, with our heroes (the people who we as the audience see ourselves through) only appearing as storytelling props used to get us to the next action scene (even though a lot of these people we haven't seen in years and have no clue where their head is at) is an extremely flawed movie?

But think about it for 18 movies fans complained it was all about the heroes and the villains were neglected.

Literally that was the complaint 18 consecutive times!

So the ONE time they make a movie fully devoted to the villain and you’re not happy lol

If anything Marvel chose the correct movie to make it all about the villain because it’s Thanos!

If you want movies focused mostly on the heroes you have 18 movies to chose from that’s why they were made that way to give 10 years worth of quality hero backstory.

My 10 years with the 18 MCU movies gave me everything I needed to connect with the heroes in IW.

You should apply to the WB superhero story group lol

Nope. I wanted Thanos. I got Thanos. We got 18 films with the heroes. I don’t mind waiting 1 year to “close the chapter” on our main heroes. I was scared they were gonna explore bruce and natashas lame “love story”. Glad they didnt! Lol i bet they cut it tho lol
