Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

The previous 18 films were the build up. This film only has those things you want because of the establishment of the previous films. This film only worked because they laid the ground work. They didn’t have time to explain everything and introduce everyone. Just a mega comic cross over, they expect you to know everyone and what their connections are. This film is unprecedented in that regard. It is only able to stand alone because of the previous 18 films setting it up - just as this is setting up Dust in the Wind, or whatever they call Avengers 4.

But you cannot rely on all the previous films for character moment groundwork when most of them are in very different places in thier lives since we last spent time with them, and we are expected to connect to who they are now. Captain America is a great example. Where is his head at now? How has his values changed since he dropped his moniker? Where has he and his crew even been for the past couple years? These are all very important questions for character building, but we dont get any answers. He's just sort of there.

Characters that haven't even met yet or have very important dramatic baggage left over from previous films have all character growth tossed aside just to squeeze in another fight scene.

Imagine in the first Avengers if they had just thrown everyone together and told them to instantly work as a team because there was a supervillain that needed to be stopped. Makes logical sense, but also eliminates all character or drama in the movie. That's basically what this was.

Both Civil War and Age of Ultron managed to have places where the action slowed down and we had room to explore the characters so we actually cared when things started going boom around them. This film had none of that. It felt like a Michael Bay movie or Justice League that tried to give itself a pass on its writing flaws based on the good graces of its predecessors. Explosions after explosions after explosions.

Just got home from my second viewing damn it’s 2am i’ve been up for almost 22 hours.

My favorite comedic moment was the “I am groot” and Cap’s return greeting of “I’m Steve Rogers” loved it.

Man did I think Stark was going to die but nope lol

Sold out again even the neck bending front row seats were occupied I never see that.

I understand where you are coming from though. It’s a fast paced film with TONS going on. They had a lot to fit in and they cut some corners where they could, but I would say they did a fair job in the end. They focused most of their quiet moments on Thanos and I think that was the best choice seeing as he’s basically the only new character here. I suspect A4 will have the closure you were wanting here. Despite what has been said officially, this really is just part 1 of a larger story.

Forget characterization. Just go for suspense and action. I don't hear about Batman Begins. I hear about TDK and TWS. This movie was awesome.

I really liked all those points too. Besides all the obvious “problems,” they did a great job setting up the conclusion (avengers 4). I also really hope to see Ebony Maw in future movies. Who voice acted the black order? I never figured out who they were. Strange and Thor definitely seemed to be the strongest two of the movie.

Yep. Strange and Thor were both great in the movie. :rock

These are good movies. Well-written, well-cut, and not overstuffed. There's breathing room that allows the suspense to, you know, build.

Infinity War is not the same.

Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

I’m back to this thread after a long break to avoid spoilers and so glad I did. I knew this movie would be full of surprises and wanted to experience the surprise, and I did, a few times I even turned to my girlfriend and said whoah I didn’t see that coming. This movie met all my expectations, the action, the mixing of characters for the first time. I felt like the humor was very well handled so as not to detract from the overall serious tone but keep things sufficiently lighthearted.

There were a few moments where I totally geeked out as much as I did in Avengers 1, between the music and the surprise of the moment.

The only negative for me is having to wait a year for the resolution.

Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

The charge into battle had me screaming 'YESSSS!!!' out loud in the theatre. Loved Cap and Panther leading the way.

The next year will be very exciting here. If set pics are anything to go by we could be getting some great 2.0's.

Was that blond chick that flirts with Cap but never bones him in this?

Poor bastard really needs to get laid. It's been what, like 80 years? Assuming he wasn't still a virgin when he got frozen?

Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

Well... I LOVED it.

To be able to orchestrate a semblance of a movie with all these characters and relationships... got to tip my hat to the Russos.

Movie wasted no time. Moved fast and kept the pedal to the metal. Definitely high on the re-watchability scale.

Best experience I've had from Marvel since the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Highlights:

Doctor Strange was bad ass -- I never saw his standalone so wasn't sure what to expect.

Ebony Maw rules. Better than all other IW villains, even Thanos, sorry.

Despite Maw, Thanos was great. He is finally the great villain the MCU has needed for so long. Still don't like his casual-wear.

Loved when they almost "caught" Thanos, until you-know-who screwed up.

This review caught me off guard. I thought for sure you'd hate this one because of how messy it was structure-wise. :lol

Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

Despite knowing a sequel was coming, they did such a good job of making you think at a few points the fight was won because you couldn’t conceive in the moment how it could go any other way.

I will say I was let down that the group shot from the trailer was fake, and I’m curious to see where the 3 part Banner/Hulk arc ends in Avengers 4, while screen time bothered me, I do feel that between Ragnarok and now this, they’re exploring some interesting things.
