Yeah he was a good fit in SS but not in a Cloverfield flick IMO. Hopefully one of the "twists" is that he dies two seconds in.

That only happens to greasy martial artists in Harrison Ford flicks. :lol

First off:

I just finished it. I was impressed - but not as much as 10 Cloverfield Lane. This one (like 10 Cloverfield Lane) makes you think and try to piece it all together - although, as a prequel, this really explained a lot for me. I liked the character develop and the plot twists. I haven't see it in a while, but this felt a little (or a lot) like Event Horizon. It's like a space horror, in the Cloverfield world.

I'll admit that I'm having a lot of trouble piece together all of the realities, so when you guys finish this, I've got a few questions (see below).

CAUTION: SPOILER-ISH.....

1.) After seeing this, is 10 Cloverfield Lane in the same reality as Cloverfield (the movie)?
2.) Is the bunker in this movie the same as the one in 10 Cloverfield Lane (see above question?)

Spoiler Spoiler:

What's all this about Will Smith? Smdh

1. No, separate reality, they all are. Maybe, the 2nd reality in this movie could be the reality of the first movie.
2. I noticed this as well, I say no. No Aliens there like in 10CL

Spoiler Spoiler:

Yep, that was my theory from since the second one.

We don't know for sure yet. It looks like the second movie takes place during an all out alien invasion. Unless the monster and the aliens are happening simultaneously I'd say the second movie is yet another alternate reality.

Another thing that makes me think this isn't the 10CL reality, is that it's Howard's brother talking about the paradox at the beginning, this universe seems to not have anything going on related to the aliens of 10CL.

10 CL was much better, but this is still very good if you like sci-fi.

And if you're into the ARG this is a must watch, goes without saying.

Ok. Watched it. There is a reason it’s released on Netflix and not at theaters.
What's that?

I would assume ARG reasons.

Similar to last movie. Has no relationship to first movie except for last 2 minutes. It’s a Netflix sci-fi movie in itself and can be judged on its own merits. I would give it a C-. Would not make big bucks at the box office. Definitely a home movie.

LOL! That's what I was thinking too.

I also enjoyed 10 CL but not really excited for this one.
I'll catch it some other time.

Thanks for those answers, guys!

I have more brewing at the moment. I need to sleep on it and return tomorrow....

When a film franchise goes from a feature theatrical release to a Netflix original..I expect it to be a downgrade . So I’m not shocked if it stinks.

And I need help tying a few other things together:

Gaspar, was the Tagruato group mentioned in this one? (I know you posted about them earlier today.)

And for the record, they're the oil group that is somehow linked and briefly mentioned in the first two, no? I can't remember in the first, but I think their name was on the side of a truck briefly in the second?

Is that the only link between the first two movies at this point?

Lots of food for thought, in-universe and out.

Unfortunately they're still in the background. I was hoping all ties to them would be wrapped up in this one, but if you think about it, Overlord, which goes to WWII and it's around the time just before Tagruato was founded, so maybe we have some way to go before we can put a bow on it.

Tagruato is a diverse Japanese corporation, with many subsidiaries, all of which play a part in each and all the movies.

Slusho - drinks with seabed nectar, which is provided by Tagruato itself as its main activity is deep sea drilling.

Bold Futura - space stuff, for which Howard Stambler worked in 10 CL as a satellite telemetry engineer, and is itself the owner of the Cloverfield station in this movie.

Is it the only link? Yes it is, pretty much all the other links derive from this corporation.

Disappointed that this franchise went the root of "straight to video" on their third instalment. I enjoyed C1 & 2 this one difinetly tarnished the franchise. Felt like a low budget HELLRAISER 4 / Jason X / movie. Why did they do that??
