I loved TLJ but have to admit that I found RO a whole lot more interesting design-wise, with all the OT influences and cool extra gear everyone was carrying.

Really hoping they let Gareth Edwards direct another standalone at some point.

Would have been sweet if they had made Rogue One at least 2 movies. So many characters, planets, so much going on, two different timelines for Jyn. Would have allowed the story to be fleshed out more. I wonder what the first arc would have been though, and whether it would have been satisfying. I think they would have had to keep the story regarding the fact that these were the rebels planning on stealing the death star plans under wraps until the the lead up to the final installment.

Yeah, my favorite designs from the new flicks are mostly from Rogue One: U-wing, Two Tubes, furry white alien, some others from Saw's group, the two rebel aliens, Krennic is an interesting take on what is normally pretty boring (officer), death troopers, that skinny white robot from the opening scene at Galen's home.

There are also very few bad character designs in Rogue One whereas TFA and TLJ have some questionable ones: Rathtar, caretakers, bounty hunters going after Han were all extremely pedestrian compared to anyone in Saw's group. Also wasn't a huge fan of the bulky AT-ATs. Some of the Canto Bait character designs weren't bad but it's hard to get excited about upper class gambling society in Star Wars compared to bounty hunters, etc.

My favorite new designs from the ST would be those speeders on Crait, flametroopers, the X-wing pilot alien (who really should have been made into a new character, a Wedge, rather than killing him off in TFA and then reintroducing another in TLJ). Don't understand why there was so little continuity with the pilots from one movie to the next. Also really liked that creature and beast that Rey rescues BB-8 from on Jakku. Jakku had several interesting character designs actually, but they really didn't get much screen time the way that the Jawas and Tusken raiders got on Tatooine.

The whole Catalyst story explaining Jyns father and relationship with Krennic before Rogue One could easily be a pre- Rogue One film. Fortunately listening on Audible it is very good, as getting a film would be a bit of a stretch unfortunately.

But waiting patiently for TLJ and Solo film to be done. Then there may be perhaps some of the other characters from Rogue One.

Totally with you and Ton Ton on this one Dave. The design of Star Wars is predominantly what draws me to it. I also think Rogue One was perfect from design and matching the OT.

One fear I have is that as this was the first stand alone film, excitement and drive on the design and production side was high. Maybe this could wane going forward ?

But as Smudger says I also hope Solo has a similar familiar lived in world design. Luckily they do have R1 as a template for how to do it right.

So much potential for aliens and rough underworld scenes.

I guess we'll soon see when we get the first Solo trailer. Hopefully at superbowl.

The new trilogy just doesn't have the same design draw to me. I liked Kylo Rens original suit...but that's it. The Troopers are definately terrible.

I'm sure I'm like most here where the OT designs are my favorites.
And Rogue One just added to that. It baffles me they haven't at least made Krennic. I actually would want that figure over Tarkin.

Don't forget Raddus!

I'd take both Raddus and Akbar but yeah Raddus was badass! They could both come with the captain chairs they sit in and make them so that they could swivel around like in the movies! haha

I don't think Raddus' chair could swivel though, I believe he had to constantly strain to twist his back to talk to the lieutenants behind him. The "swivel" wasn't a standard feature of Calamari cruisers until ROTJ, lol.

While Wor-Gar is outing himself about Raddus over Ackbar I'd also take a Krennic figure over Tarkin. But only cause I don't have a strong connection to Tarkin for whatever reason.

But that move by Raddus with the hammerhead corvette was pretty epic.

Infact that whole space battle was great. Reminded me of the original deathstar attack & trench run but with modern special effects. But of course not a copy like some other Star Wars movie I know.

EXACTLY!

The RO final battle gave me the same thrills that the original trench chase did in ANH. And it is endlessly re-watchable. just glorious.

And the line "Bring me a hammerhead corvette" is why Raddus tops Akbar for me. The moment that corvette slams into the stardestroyer is sheer Star Wars!

And I'm not saying I like one over the other character wise. Tarkin had that iron steel resolve of a good evil military general, Krennic was an overly ambitious scientist that hoped to rise through the ranks of the Empire. I just think Krennic visually is quite distinct, his white uniform and cape. Love it!

Why do they even have those ships? Why didn't they just jump through the ship and obliterate it as well as all sound for 7 seconds? :lol

my fav final battle moment for RO was when that transport of rebel troops gets thru and lands on scarif and they run out into the battle and one yells-

"For Jedha!!!"

goosebumps every time!:clap
