Both the rolling system and the lights are moot for me personally, being that I seldom use any electronic features on my figures; I don't like to leave batteries in lest leakage. So this current version of BB-8 is fine for me.

However, between the two, I'd say the more accurate lighting would be preferred over the rolling system. I presume the electronic features would be used more than the rolling system would, being that he would simply be on a static display anyway as mentioned.

Just had my 2nd payment charged. Only one payment left. I may pay her off early even if she's delayed so I won't have to worry about it anymore.

I wouldn't hold my breath expecting Hot Toys to do anything special with lights if past figures are any indication. I have a number of Iron Man figures with unevenly lit eyes, overly bright arc reactors, and light bulb repulsor hands. They finally got the eyes to look good on WM/IP, and even better on Starboost, only to regress on later models like the Mark 42.

Then you have Vader with a light up feature you can't even get to without a strip search, and Kylo Ren, where you have to risk breaking the zipper to even install the light up saber which only lights about half way to the top and has limited articulation.

Rolling is useless. It should light-up like he did in the movie with many little lights.

Surely the correct one will come with Ep VIII. It's the one reason I'm leaning towards NOT getting Rey + BB-8. I know I'll regret getting this ball for $60 in less than two years.

Probably a Poe/BB-8 two pack for VIII and then again with another character in IX. We're going to be rolling in BB-8's.

Should have a red eye and a white eye.
Several other lights on the body.

The body has lights all over it. I agree that the lights in the head are probably all we are going to get.

BB-8 having a rolling system is stupid especially after watching the behind the scenes stuff out now.

Unless the "rolling system" includes a handle and a dude in a green bodysuit suit.:horror Wow were we ever misled about that droid and Phasma!

They weren't able to make a completely remote controlled one until after VII wrapped. The one they rolled out for celebration will be what they use for VIII.

The dome has 6 lights, and there easily more than 20 on the whole droid. I took a ton of screen shots which I will share later.

Wait, is yours defective? Did you slid the blade all the way in. This is mine and it has lots of articulation, much more than other figures.

hmm. He's not alone. Mine doesn't get quite THAT bright either. I don't know if I'd go as far as to say it's defective though. I think some of them are just slightly brighter than others. Then again...I've never tried lighting him up at night. All of my pics were during the day with the lights off.

These were not shot in total darkness.
