Well, it's pretty clear that the "renegotiation" was not the truth, as Ash and Beetlejuice both have the same insane price, and are not under the Disney umbrella. And it's not like Hot Toy's prices suddenly took a huge jump either.

There is not any real truth in the price increase other than "they want to".

And/Or their sales have plummeted and the production numbers have fallen as well, could also be why they dont release numbers anymore too

Sales most likely plummeted with the HT announcement, don't know how many #s "I'll wait for Hot Toys" translates to, but it's gotta add up.

I'm not defending the price cause it's ludicrous, but in quoting SS, that $200 was before the Disney "renegotiation." And Hoth Luke, regular, came with the same amount of heads as this regular one does and shared parts with Han Hoth (head gear, boots, hands, binocs, and had similar gauntlets and blasters and pants).

But that $200 was really high when it was announced. Snowtrooper was $150 a year before. Tusken Raider was $135 eighteen months before. Neither figure with any reuse.

And Lucasfilm was so kind and generous with licensees and now Disney's an ogre? I just find all this a little hard to believe. Yes, new movie series, but it's part of larger brand continuums and these licensors all inhabit the same pond, dealing with the same licensees.

In reality, it's the old story - if people are willing to pay it, companies are willing to charge it.

They're testing that. Let's see how they do.:dunno

Of course, but you could go backwards and backwards with price until Luke Jedi, just pointing out a couple of your truth stretches that's all.

Luke Jedi's ten years ago.

Snowtrooper was three years ago. It's really not stretching anything - that's still kinda recent.:dunno

I still have stuff in the fridge from three years ago.:lol

Interesting quote from Michael Crawford's review of the SSC Tusken Raider (priced at $135), written 3 1/2 years ago:

Value - **
You'll probably get this guy for around $125, depending on the retailer of course. At around $120 - $125, you're getting a great sculpt and paint, and a very solid costume. You won't be jumping up and down over the price of this guy, but it's a solid value compared to other figures in this market currently.

Shows where our minds were just 3 1/2 years ago. That (pretty great, no re-use) figure was exactly HALF the price of Luke Snowspeeder.

My point was that your remark that Luke Hoth had "no reused parts" was a stretch.

You switched gears to the point that the figure was overpriced compared to previous figures etc. Separate things. We can all agree that each year Sideshow's figures seem to go up inexplicably by 10%-15%.

Let's hope that the paint quality on the head sculpts are a little better than the Hoth figures and better than the X-Wing sculpt, none of which are all that impressive.

I've collected SS since the announcement of Jedi Luke and have been fortunate enough to obtain every exclusive from that day till today. All that said, I took a hard dive on the X-wing Luke thinking that, I'm a completist, I'm a completist. But that dive landed me on my head I think. Since then I'm like a recovering addict, visiting the product pages of Darth Maul and now Snowspeeder Luke thinking, crap, will this be another X-wing Luke???? I say all that to say, I'm a SS diehard and I agree, these prices, however conceived, can't be good for the hobby as a whole. Not sure what to do with few announcements from HT, this may yet still be the only real route to 1/6 OT as it once was. Which is sad cause these prices are stupendous. SS please explain in greater detail cause this is killing my collecting mojo man!

I thought the Snow trooper was expensive, and only preordered one. Never was able to get anymore, and I wanted three with the cannon. From that point on they cost more and more, and I was trying to cut myself off from these, Hot Toys included. Still haven't...

So this is all this figure is pretty much good for.... A smart phone wallpaper. Free. Lol.

Then I just think about all the engineering improvements SS COULD make and they just DONT. Especially for these prices. Maul looks to have non movable ankles, an issue with his original release YEARS ago and one that could be mitigated with existing technology. He also doesn't have a light up saber arm...WHY? And this figure without the magnetic grapple is like DERP! Why isn't that the exclusive? Let alone, to my eyes, this isn't Mark Hamill's likeness. Not even close for me, just like X-wing Luke. We use to get magnetic mynocks as exclusives, now we get gloves....and ungloved hands with weird looking thumbs...crickets....
Sorry for the rant but DAYUM, bring back my dollie hay days!!!!

Yeah but you know, I'm a bit weird. If you say to me "We have two new figures coming out soon - Han Hoth and Luke Hoth - and they're going to share some parts" I'm kind of cool with it.

I'm like - "They're new figures (that share some parts) but we're off to Hoth! Woohoo!"

But if you say to me "You know that Luke Hoth you got 18 months ago? And that Luke X-Wing you got four months ago? Well, we have a figure that combines the parts from those two into ONE figure... oh, but it has a new head and jacket," I'm just... not quite as into it.

It kind of feels like "It's a new Geonosis Arena 3PO!" "Umm... no, it's that battle droid you did two years ago, with the head from the 3PO you did four months ago."

It's a fine distinction I know, and yeah - some of the Snowspeeder Luke parts could be at least sculpt tweaks over the previous releases (but with photos that dark it's hard to be 100% sure) and the figure looks very solid and it's definitely on my list next time I'm in Thousand Oaks and have a ski mask handy.:dunno:lol

It does look like new sculpts for the boots and belt. Makes you wonder what it could have been priced at had they indeed reused the Hoth parts and I would have even been curious to see the sculpt of the Hoth head without the eye system, but that would have probably led to all sorts of complaints of a different kind.

At least we can all agree on the three problems with the figure--price, dark photos, and the no grappling hook.

I think the figure looks great, overall.

He does not look fat at all, in my opinion, koon. The snow clothes give you and any other person that bulky look, it's neccessary.

This look is one of my favourite looks Luke had during the trilogy.

The only points the figure can improve further I believe, are:

- better boots, DX07 look much better than sculpted boots
- Hot Toys lightsaber hilt, and light up lightsaber
- custom grappling hook, posing possibilities with that would be great

That aside, the figure could be a winner.
I see Sideshow improving the paint-apps, sculpt and helmet.

The problem is, we are perfectionists, and I see lots of people wanting to get the pack:

SSC figure + custom DX07 boots + light up lightsaber (and better hilt)

That adds up to a big budget...

So that keeps me on the fence.
I am sticking with my custom Jedi Luke for now. It's another favourite look of this character for me, and the custom kitbash figure feels very solid overall.

I do agree that with today's prices you should get an attempt at a "real" boot... and not a molded plastic one like Hasbro. Luke Hoth/Pilot boots are too easy to do in real fabric and its a joke that no attempt is made. Hopefully Maul's boots are at least made in a softer more flexible material.

I don't think that's our problem to be honest. I think that's Sideshow's problem - that they're NOT perfectionists.

As for the pack, you forgot to add DX07 sculpt, surely essential for this figure.
