How do you feel about Hot Toys doing second runs of Vader, Chewie, Han and Obi-Wan?

Never been done before. Vader was the first that they announced an additional run based on demand. Then Kylo. Now this.

Prior to this, HT always double-dipped but waited about two years between and offered a new improved V2 or V3.

Thanks, man. :duff

Is this just speculation?? if not can someone provide a link..

Why would hot toys change thier business model over a few figures. Wouldnt it be a waste of resources redoing them for a limited market of people who missed out when they could just do empire strikes back versions that more people would buy anyway because the market isn't already partially saturated.

Not speculation, there are many stores abroad with new pre-orders for these. No US stores yet though.

Yep, Chewie returning to Australia in June. Star Wars | Chewbacca 1/6th Scale Hot Toys Action Figure | Hot Toys | Popcultcha

Has Sideshow even started shipping Vader here stateside yet? It's still at "pre-order" on the product page....I haven't ordered him myself...

As to the question at hand...I don't "feel" one way or the other about it. I ordered these three when they were available...they are popular versions of popular characters...it's not shocking that if the demand is truly there, that Hot Toys wouldn't strive to meet it, especially since these have already been in production...and in the case of Chewie, I'm sure a lot of R & D went into creating that figure, so it's to be expected that HT would get as much as they could out of it. It's as someone else mentioned...the only changes (if any) may be in some of the materials (mainly textiles) used...if there isn't much left from the first run, some kind of "substitution" might occur.

The only additional Han & Chewie set I'd like to see are the recent versions seen in TFA.

Yes I got vader from them in December

Well , the only OT figure I Have is the Ss deluxe Vader...not sure what th difference is between that and Ht Vader.

I really feel in love with the Leia though, naturally buy Leia and need Luke ...etc etc...problem is I am not a Fan of the Chewie or Han really...Obi I like, but seems a crime not to buy Han and Chewie and all the others.....

Now that we will have a flood of extras I am sure it wont be long till we see some, dollar auctions starts up on Ebay...

My guess is I will find Han or Obi below retail there soon.

They probably just rushed everything by making smaller runs to get all the figures out by TFA.

They had a couple runs of Han and Chewie (delay between two pack and the singles), a couple runs of Kenobi, clearly a couple runs of Vader.

I'm surprised we haven't seen the stormtroopers but maybe that's cause they're planning on some Rogue One versions and they're maybe trying to get through the spacetrooper and sandtrooper inventory.

Sideshow did something similar with the Scout Trooper. Sold out in September and put up a second pre-order with figures shipping in the spring.

I think it's fine if HT decides to produce more of a figure that sells out quickly. It just means everybody that wants one can get one and those that get into collecting later don't have to spend an arm and a leg to play catch up.

:lol

I'm in the same boat. Never really cared for Han or Chewy, but I liked the proto Luke a lot and wanted to have some SW represented in the doll collection. So i figured Luke and Kenobi was good enough for 2 per shelf and done with ANH.

Then they had to go and release a fantastic Leia. And that started messing up the entire plan. :lol

Because if you have those 3 you kinda need Han and Chewy.

Wow. Incredible deal. When and where did you find him for that?

Ebay. I bid around $230-$240 and was the only bidder and the starting bid was $180. It was from Canada and listed in Canadian currency so maybe that dissuaded buyers. It did take forever to get through Chicago ISC.

On the question- I have no problem with them releasing the figures again in a second or even third wave. Shows there is a larger waiting for them and may encourage HT to release more titles, like Tarkin

Since both Han & Chewie are up on popcultcha on preorder, when do you reckon it'd pop out on Sideshow?

I wonder if the figures that currently aren't sold out, like Luke and Spacetrooper, are going to end up being the rare ones? In the long run there should be less of them.

I'm fine with it.

To me, this is different than a company who releases a product that has a specified, basically PROMISED limited run of X amount, and then they end up making more because $$$$. *cough*IronStudios*cough* If you advertise that run number, you don't make more once they've sold out. End of story.

Hot Toys doesn't generally advertise their numbers (I think they do on rare occasions, correct?), and I think most collectors assume figures aren't as limited/rare as other collectible pieces like prop replicas, statues, etc, so again, I don't think this is a big deal.

Now, if they had said only, say, 1000 Chewies would be released, and they decided to rerelease him after he sold out? THEN I'd be ticked off. That's not cool.

IMO this is a not a re-production. It looks like there were just several other shops not in North America that did not take stock for whatever reason. Hot toys released this stock to other shops to get it out for distribution. There's been several people say their european suppliers either got shorted or didn't get the figures in. For whatever the reason these just appear to be those allotments and now Hot toys is reallocating them. I cannot see how Sideshow will getting these back in stock and if they do they will only get enough to cover the wait list demand.

It looks like Popcultcha got around 12 or so cases (6 figures in each) of Han and Chewie, plenty of Han left but they are down to 1 chewbacca pre-order now if any one wants it better hurry.

That might be true, but I've seen these pop up in so many places for pre-order that it's hard not to think this is a second production run. And if stock from the first run is simply being released late, then why are shops not getting it until august/ september?

How do you know how much stock Popcultcha got in?

I've yet to see any sellers in North America offer these so-called "second runs" for pre-order. All I see are other countries.

and Chewie is gone.

Add a figure to the cart set it to 99 and go down untill the number shows in stock for what they have available.

If they were re-issuing or second running these why would they not ship them to the source where they most likely make the most coin? (North America) We are only talking about a few hundred figures here at most getting pushed back out, its not in the thousands and I would bet its not close to 1,000 in total. Again chances are 8-10 shops either stopped selling hot toys or just didn't get their stock for whatever reason. The delay could have been contractual per the distributor agreement and its 6 months past acceptance and Hot toys can now release the stock.

Popcultcha is the main Hot Toys distributor for the CONTINENT of Australia and they got less than 100 of each (Han, Chewie,Obi).

I think people are just trying to make some smoke where there is none. Hot Toys does not straight re-run figures and I can only think of one time they did, the DX01 for that melt away rubber compound they produced on the first run. :lol
