Matrix thanks for the tip on the lenses!

Just did it and it makes a huge difference. I will adjust the dome and paint the eyelids eventually too.

Getting the dome off was pretty easy with a flat head and then using an exacto knife to cut some of the glue around the top where the dome was, and using the flat head you can wedge the two halfs of the mask apart with alittle patience and confidence.

I'll post pics in a bit

I swear Hot Toys glued the damned screw into the battery compartment. Can not get it out to save my life.

Matrix, how did you "crack open" the head exactly?

I'm thinking of doing the same, but I wasn't going to it if was too difficult.

I just remember getting the dome off was a huge hassle.

There's six plugs holding it together, only the bottom ones are glued. I cut through these using an exacto knife. Then using a small hammer i gently tapped on each side of the mask-join to loosen things up. It came apart easier than i thought. Good thing is that it just clips back together when you finish modding,no need for glue.

matrix... a littl help/details about how to get the nose out, please?! I cut away the support structure inside, but is the nose attached to the breather part?

Did the ESB and ROTJ have a mesh behind the lenses? I'm almost certain I saw a picture somewhere that it did, but can't find that anywhere.

No it's not attached,i used a needle nose pilers to break the part just above the breather. The nose plug is attached with only a drop of glue. Once i broke the part above the breather the plug just popped out.

And the plug then slides outward or downward? I wonder if it can be accessed from the front without damaging it too much, I was really just hoping to get mine more level with the helmet. I think mine sticks out a hair from the mask.

This is a pic from Original Prop Blog.com. It looks like the ROTJ Reveal. The picture file's title would suggest that these were taken upon a visit to Lucasfilm. I don't know for sure.

I can't believe all the modding that has to be done on this :horror

Maybe I should wait until they make a ESB or ROTJ version :gah:

The same thing happened to me. One of my belt boxes won't open. I practically tore up my screwdriver. Luckily I didn't strip the screw head.

I had two additional problems with mine today. It appears that the voice changer batteries or the remote batteries are low(or both). Gonna have to get more. Also the tab where the belt buckle snaps into started to come off the belt. Had to super glue it back on. I've only had this figure since Saturday...

ThinkGeek sent me an email that this figure is totally discontinued.

"You had previously requested to be informed when the product below
returned in stock at ThinkGeek. Unfortunately, new stock has not
arrived and we have decided instead to discontinue the product.
We apologize for the inconvenience."

Darth Vader Episode 4 Sixth Scale Figure

"If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact us!
We want you to be happy geeks, not sad or angry geeks." Thanks!

I recorded the audio from the figure to my phone so I don't have to mess with the batteries on the body ever again. I'll post an MP3 somewhere when I get it all converted.

Thanks! That's a good idea. I've heard the batteries are cheap and give out quickly sometimes.

It slides out both ways but it's a little risky trying to remove it from the front. Cracking the mask open is worth it in the end and any damage or breakage is hidden on the inside.

Yeah, the more I check in with this thread, the more I want to wait for HT ESB. :lol

I am really impressed that people will do these things to a $300 purchase though - and the results are great - just not sure I've got the cajones to do it.:gah:

Yeah I wouldn't do it. Honestly these mods are so small they're practically unnoticeable. At least to me, and surely to 99.9% of anybody who would see the figure on display at my house. Maybe it's because I don't have him in hand yet but I just don't see much of a difference.

Ah, well you don't HAVE to. It does make it look better, but I do think it looks really good stock as well.

I don't think waiting for the ESB or RotJ version is the way to go to circumvent having to make mods. I'm almost certain there will be something on them that people will feel the urge to mod as well.
