The loss of being able to close that thumb will definitely make it hard to hold that itsy-bitsy commlink. But then again, can the figure actually hold it now?

I was able to make him hold it but in doing so the hand looks more like a claw than ever.

There seems to be a space between bottom of "thumb" and the hand -- the place that allows for articulation. If you're really careful with an exacto, seems like cutting that and re-gluing the same parts back together once the thumb is correctly in line would work. But its a tiny, tiny space.

My concern about that is there won't be enough surface area to get a really strong hold when glued. But if you figure it out let us all know.

I might try heating and twisting first (very carefully of course) -- though when it cools it may just go back to its original placement.

As of now the angle I have them displayed kind of hides the problem. So as long as I don't want him to hold anything its ok. But if this was going to be the case I wish they didn't even bother with articulated fingers.

By the way, does anyone know why we get 2 restraining bolts? Is one just extra?

Yea, they for sure knew this was a problem. They went out of their way to minimize how bad it is with the angle while at the same time making sure there is an official picture they can point to which demonstrates they are all that way as if it's "supposed" to be like that.

Yeah, I agree. Everything around this figure is starting to stink a little, which is a shame because at one point SS was known for their great customer service. And this is no reflection on the folks that answer the phone. I've had nothing but good things to say about them, but the policies (and QC, and prices) seems reek of a place that's desperate. R5 might be it for me, until Walrusman. Then I'm done though.

I should be getting this guy in about 2 hours. I decided to check in here today to see how things are going. Not good it seems. What a shame. I was really hoping this one came out good I guess I'll have to wait to decide in hand. I will give him a good inspection before the night's through and if I am disappointed he's going back for a full refund. After Vader, not happy with how SS is handling things lately.

It is a shame. Because beyond Thumbgate, I think the other problems were expected and could be resolved. But the thumbs threw this figure into meltdown phase for people that are at the end of their rope with Sideshow.

For me personally though -- I think this is a good swan song on a line that is now a decade old. 2005-2015. RIP.

Truth be told, I'm more mad at myself for keeping the thing. The thumbs will be an easy fix, even if I have to break them off and re-glue. But it just seems like these are $250 starting points now. Fix this, swap this part, repaint that...all for even more money. Granted I actually enjoy that part, but when reality sets in you just spent a quarter grand on a factory defect that was accepted by the company and pawned off on their loyal customers because they know we'll take it (most people WILL just settle for this as opposed to throwing it right back in their face), it really is a wake up call. I should probably just shut my piehole and send it back. Maybe it will be cathartic.

I will not be preordering any new SS branded 1:6 going forward.

Here's my review of the new Sideshow C-3PO, and overall I am pretty disappointed to be honest, especially with the paint defects and articulation issues on the figure. I do a comparison with the previous Bandai Tamashii Nations Threepio, so hopefully you can check out the vid if you're interested in this figure! Either way, I've contacted Sideshow to ask for a replacement, so we'll see how that goes.

No, but if your kitchen cabinets couldn't keep things from sliding off because they are at a slant pitch you would be pretty unhappy wouldn't you?

You buy a house with the expectations the cabinets are level. You saw pictures of a level shelving system. Yet when you get them the doors won't shut flush and the level is all off and can't use the shelves for holding items.


One would expect natural hand with four fingers and and a thumb that grips a comlink, just like the demo video. No more or less.

Using your house/apartment example, that is what happened.

I don't see how thumbs not moving are relatable to multiple shelves being unleveled, seems like an extreme example. I would think that is more relatable to the joints not being able to keep this guy from standing up.

I'm talking about minor issues in every house. Squeaky floor board? Nail pop? Small chip in the wallpaper or paint? Scratch on the table? Cracks? Stuff that you know is there, yet it is unnoticeable and you go throughout your day not complaining about it, leaving it as is. I mean if you expect perfection on a figure and rant about it for days on end.... wouldn't you expect perfection in a much bigger investment such as a house? Sure, saying a complaint and moving on is fine. Everyone does that. I just don't understand the multi days, sometimes multi year complaints of Vaders dome being 1mm off when the same can be said about nearly everything not being perfect.

No. You are not relating correctly. Everything you are saying is COSMETIC. Not being able to grip and make a fist is FUNCTIONAL. It is a build flaw. The other things you speak of are not part of the functional aspects of a house. If you slop paint on a wall or pop a nail it is easily remedied. Think you are missing your own point.
