The pistons were always the biggest fear ....

Really not surprised there's such a problem, but more surprised that Sideshow didn't see this coming. I mean, for the cost of some little metal-cast pistons, they now have to reship an entire figure to what seems like 1 in 3 people so far. Surely that can't be more cost effective?

I got mine and the outer piston on the removable arm is broken too. The part that rotates is broken and not the part that slides. It isn't noticeable since you can slide the piece back in there and it will stay, but it is still disappointing to have such poorly created pistons and the thumb problems on this figure. Also it was broken as soon as I pulled him out before I even moved the arm.

All this defectives are worrying for such an expensive figure. Is Sideshow's QC really as bad as it seems? Assuming mine arrives without any problems, I think I'm going to be too scared to touch him in case something breaks. Reminds me of R2 which felt so flimsy and fragile I was almost scared to touch it too. Sounds like 3PO is going to be worse.

It just occurred to me that this is the most expensive sixth scale figure I've purchased to date. The ROTJ Vader was a higher price point but worked out cheaper because of the better exchange rate at the time. This 3PO is also the most barebones figure I've purchased too. Sign of the times I suppose. :-(

I emailed Sideshow about the issue of not having a matching stand for R2 and the response was basically that my inquiry made sense but that since R2 didn't require a stand, it wasn't something they'd thought about. Pretty much the response I expected, but disappointing nonetheless. Also they said that they don't have any generic stands available for sale. Seems like they should have a stockpile of them soon though from all of these defective figures!

You can pick up an additional base at Toy anxiety for R2. Keep in mind that figures like the scout trooper share the same base as 3-PO.

Picked up my 3PO from the UPS Store this evening. In general, I think he looks great. I would have preferred a shinier base with some weathering on top, but this figure still looks pretty damn good. I didn't have much trouble popping the head off to access the batteries. You definitely can't grasp the neck unless you have child-like fingers, but I was to gently pry it up and off

The thumbs look ok on my figure. The 4th finger on each hand seems to have an issue, it won't articulate as much as the other fingers.

The only thing I'm really disappointed with is the value on this guy. With shipping, this comes close to $250. I think they could have included a few more accessories, and a nicer base for that kind of money.

I don't like the articulated fingers on the hands either. They don't seem to close and look natural. Also I have the same issue with the fourth (ring) finger on mine not articulating as much as the others.

Curious to see how it looks, I'm sure the thumb will work fine -- but I wonder if the cut will show?

I am itching to try it but with a very sharp exacto blade.

Sadly, you will probably have to take the plunge before me - mine doesn't arrive until mid-Feb :(

You must be the first one to have one with thumbs that bend in the right direction!

Now Sideshow can't say, "They're all like that."

The video on Sideshow's C-3PO still shows the correctly bending thumbs:

(Shown clearly at 50 seconds).

Hmm. So it seems Tamashii made their pistons thicker and out of metal for a reason other than just to p*ss people off about scale.:dunno

The Tamashii version I guess needed thicker pistons because they actually worked like pistons. But by all accounts, the Sideshow version does not have telescoping pistons - they just slide in their tracks on the arm. So that should work OK with thinner pistons if the supports on the arms are strong enough. Looks like they're not in some cases and break off.......

Waiting on a reply, regarding broken piston.I would imagine they will send a new arm?
If it wasnt such a hassle to return the whole thing,i would have opted for a refund.
With customs taxes already paid and shipping back from uk.

What I mean is that even though the SSC ones don't telescope, they still have a lot of push/pull pressure on a very thin piece of plastic and also on the tiny plastic pivot joints at each end. It both slides and pivots. SSC's "piston" and joints size is screen accurate but it seems they have difficulty withstanding that pressure. Until I have mine in-hand I can only go on what people are saying though.

They all seem to be broken in the same place.
Definitely not worth the money, suppose to have articulation.
I can't see how you can pose this?Without the risk of breakage.

So what are people using for stands to display R2 and 3PO together? I had 3PO off his base for a while but not sure if I trust leaving it that way. Looked at getting some spare Hot Toys Death Star stands but don't really want to pay $50 a piece.

Thanks! But I don't know. Knees bend almost 45 degrees. Not sure the hips will allow for seating. Where do you want him to sit?

I have made a couch for obi wan. I want 3po to sit his ass down [emoji12]. The tama can't sit so i'm hoping this can.

Ok, My C-3PO came yesterday and my assessment seems to be on par with others.

Overall appearance is good. The paint is shiny enough and the weathering isn't nearly as bad in person. I myself don't have an issue with the weight, it seems fine to me. But, he does seem a tad too tall. The pistons are fine on mine, but I can tell they are fragile; I can see tension on the one on the right arm as it doesn't slide easily so I need to be careful. The biggest complaint, like most of everyone else, is the thumbs. Mine looks okay when extended without bending but claw like when gripping as it articulates in the wrong direction like a finger and not a thumb. This is disappointing because it makes the comlink accessory virtually useless and I was looking foreword to using that. It's also disappointing because its just so unnecessarily sloppy on SS part. I'm tempted to call SS about it but not sure what good it will do since it seems like finding one that is right to replace it might be extremely difficult. I'm interested to see what people might do with mods. I'm tempted to just break it off and glue it on the right direction even if it looses articulation at the knuckle that meets the hand. I'm going to leave it be for now though.

My final thought also is repeat of a topic already discussed, and that's the issue of the the stand when displaying with R2D2. I'm thinking about finding a block of wood big enough for both of them and then drilling a hole to one side that fits the post the stand comes with and making a new stand that fits them both.
