I know, but it's semantics and simple word choice, rather than the meaning. The common element is that except for a few, this doesn't look like a figure that's worth $240 to most of us (when comparing it to what else is out there, with respect to higher presumed quality, more loaded accessory wise or both) regardless of what it cost to make or develop for SS.

I think most of us who want it though will have our wish if this hits 20% off and we can get it for $191. Or if it's 30% and we get it for $167, though I'm having a hard time seeing the discount be that steep.

What's hurting this figure is the HT ANH Luke coming out around the same time. While a few people might debate which head sculpt is better in the end HT's paint app will likely put it over the top. My guess is that unless the figure has a real strong showing when people start getting it in hand it may stick around long enough for a price reduction, or at least long enough to qualify for some future coupons.

I had my eye on this figure because I wanted the head sculpt to upgrade my ceremonial Luke. The figure has some value added to it the same way Hoth Luke has as it provides a potential for two "new" figures. Many people used the extra Hoth Luke head to upgrade their SSC Bespin Luke. I might of done this if I didn't already have HT Bespin Luke (one of my favorite figures). Here again, the superior paint applications on the HT Bespin Luke wins out over Hoth Luke even if some might think the actual head sculpt is better. What saves the Hoth Luke is that there is a market for those who lost out on the HT DX Bespin Luke for people to want the extra Hoth head to customize their own. The Red Five Luke doesn't have this same advantage because it has to compete with the new HT ANH Luke, and now I am considering getting an extra HT ANH Luke or the HT Storm trooper Luke to upgrade my ceremonial Luke with instead.

If Red Five Luke came out a year ago I bet people would have bought multiples, as some would also want the head sculpt to upgrade their Sideshow Farmboy Luke. Maybe some budget minded folks still will, but the HT ANH Luke will take much of those kind of sales away. I would venture to say for some die hard fans of Luke in X-wing gear, some may pick this up AND and extra HT Luke to upgrade the head sculpt right out of the gate.

I am still holding out a slim hope however that the Red Five Luke really impresses when people get it in hand. We'll see, but I bet lots of people are holding off on pre-ordering because they want to find out what a production version of this actually looks like before ordering. If the production head sculpt turns out to be meh then with 20% or so off I imagine there still would be people that would still get it for the 'helmet on' head sculpt.

What may boost the sales of the "Red Five Luke" is that it hasn't been released yet by either Sideshow or Hot Toys. There's no version 1.0 to replace. It's the first time we see this outfit in a higher end figure.

I've been wanting an X-wing or Snow-speeder Luke ever since Sideshow got the 1/6th scale license. I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet but unless we hear otherwise from HT, this may be the only game in town for quite some time. (Especially with Episode 7 just around the corner.)

I agree that the new HT line is hurting this figure.

On shoestring budget, Im forced to spend carefully and the HT just delivers more accessories and pose/shelf value.

Maybe I can drum up an x-wing suit from toy anxiety in the future and have that option as well...

Context more than semantics. You can spend all day creating a spreadsheet to calculate "bang for your buck" of every figure release, counting hands, feet, weapons, accessories, weight, whatever. And sure sometimes you'll have figures that don't compare favorably with others. This one compares favorably with HT's Maria Hill and even Leia, but not so with ANH/Farmboy Luke nor SSC's own Vader.
Yeah, I guess my only point is that you both seemed to agree that $180 for this fig was too much for either of you, despite how it was worded. That's all. :)

As far as pricing, my POV is perhaps a little narrower than it should be since I only look closely at the SW figures and this is the most expensive SW human to date. Obviously the most direct comparison is with Tatooine Luke and that's loaded to the teeth with accessories, plus this seems like it could have re-use potential with other pilots (though doubtful at this price, I'd think). Still, I might prefer this one on my shelf in the end and by then I'll have head sculpts to swap if that's an issue. I'm sure with the helmet on it'll be fine either way.

It's funny all the talk about the Hoth figures being so terrible, I still see more Mark Hamill in the hatted Hoth sculpt than I do the HT Bespin sculpt. Hopefully they knock the paint apps on this X-wing pilot sculpt out of the park.

Not gonna quote your whole post but you make some good points, many of which I agree with and some of which I addressed here.:duff You do know that there's no spare head sculpt on the X-wing pilot figure though right? The helmet fits over the head (clamshell). Wasn't sure if you saw that, since you mentioned using the head sculpt for your ceremony figure, unless your plan was just to pick up a loose one.

Nope, that fact completely escaped me, I just assumed because that's how the Hoth Luke worked and I couldn't image the helmet fitting that well over the head (I envision Hasbro's 12" X-wing Luke- yikes). Have there been pictures of this yet? If that works well, we'll have to give sideshow credit for pulling it off, but the lack of a second head sculpt might make this a definite pass for me unless I am wowed by it when people get it in hand and I want it just for it's own sake.

Anyway, thanks for pointing that out to me. Looks like one of the HT Luke's will for sure have to be used for my Ceremonial Luke upgrade, I was leaning that way anyway.

The clamshell is really interesting, but I'm with you in not understanding how it's not oversized if it's fitting over the hair. I guess it hasn't struck me as oversized in the photos, so that's that. The hair (or part of it) I guess could come off, though there's been no mention of that. In photos I believe you see some hair behind the visor.

I'd maybe jump on that Stormtrooper Luke if you like the sculpt, though then you could have a headless Stormtrooper. I picked up a spare helmet from Toy Anxiety to use on Stormtrooper Luke in case that helmet doesn't work, but they're so pricey ($45) I'm not sure it was worth it. Using these figures for simple swaps has become an elaborate costly puzzle. It's fun. :)

^^^ Actually I was thinking about buying another HT Bespin belt and add to this figure. I think it would look pretty cool.

Although non-canon I'm sure it'd look cool. No way of knowing the girth on Luke yet. (Here come the jokes.)

i.e. Not sure if the HT belt or the Echo Base belt would be better for this figure.

Maybe the orange part inside the helmet is made of a soft and pliable material that can form tightly around the head when you put it on? That might work rather well...

No one seems sure how the helmet in the Stormtrooper Luke is going to work because it has details inside the helmet. I'm also not sure if it will have a skin tone neck I can use. I'm keeping an eye on that one to see how it turns out. Picking up another helmet might work, but your right that its costly. Also, I may want a HT body for my Ceremonial Luke too rather than keep the Sideshow one. I could always pick up another body, but swapping clothes with the HT farm boy Luke may just be easiest. Still, trying to get a Stormtrooper AND a new Luke head for Ceremonial Luke is hard to pass up. We'll see :) I am glad this fun, because sometimes it's kind of insane :panic:

Luke's like (see what I did there) I'm the only one who pre-ordered this one since nobody else has chimed in saying that this figure has also been pushed back until at least December.

Got the email today saying my last 2 flex pays are now NOV-DEC.

I preordered, but not on flex. Have not received a push back notification, but I'm ok with it being delayed right now.

Your not the only. For me, I just don't bother to say the delay in the forum. Since those who pre-ordered will be informed by Sideshow.

It's helpful for those that haven't ordered yet. I'm waiting for in-hand pics on this one, and then maybe a discount of some sort too if that happens. Pretty sure I'll be getting it if turns out nice though.

Sideshow's site still says expected to ship Oct - Dec, but things have been really quiet concerning this figure.

It could still happen on time. We didn't get much news about Jango until he was ready to ship.
