Fact is that MGS4 was a metaphor for Kojima wanting a way out from MGS. You can tell that the game wasn't as lovingly written as MGS1,2 and 3.
That actually could make MGS4 better, and the Solid Snake character as a whole.

The scene in the final mission briefing where Snake is not even looking at the projector and is just grunting and rolling his eyes to all the noobs while he sniffs oxigen :lol for some reason I always liked that scene.

Yeah, he's in this series for life. And maaaaybe the heavy themes in Ground Zeroes was the like dark and bitter realization that he will never be freed from it >__>.

I'm more interested in the plot of Arkham Knight and Uncharted 4 than anything new about the Boss or MGSV's story in general. I mean, who is the Arkham Knight? Did we miss something in the previous 2 games hinting to him? And why Drake has a brother? And where was he when we played as the teenage Drake in Uncharted 3? I need answers dammit! :gah:

Yeah, that was a great scene. I think the Limited Edition Blu Ray has a documentary about Kojima wanting out, both for him and Snake. I have the disc but I haven't seen it in years.

Maybe that's why he's not using Snake anymore, I always though the more he used Big Boss, the more legendary SSnake becomes, even more so than Big Boss.
 
I have no problem thinking Snake's speech works inside the canon while being a message from Kojima at the same time

Snake in MGS2 talks all the time about trying to leave a better world, Philantrophy's motto in MGS4 only makes sense when compared to what the Boss' will was

You can't tell me that The Boss was happy to have her child taken from her because of "loyalty". You can't tell me that The Boss was happy that she kept being used throughout history because of "loyalty". You can't tell me that she was happy that Volgin botched her mission which forced her against her own disciple because of "loyalty". The Boss was very aware of how she was being used, but it's not something she wished on others especially towards Big Boss. The Boss viewed her sacrifice as appropriate and necessary as she had already lost everything. It's why she was such a martyr, she took the fall that no one else could or would have.

I highly agree, but I'd phrase it differently. It's not that Snake held the same ideology as The Boss, rather what I find compelling about the parallels between them is that Snake's actions and relentless faith in fighting for others "embodies" The Boss's ideals. It's less to do with Snake and The Boss being the same and rather about how Snake embodied the kind of ideals that The Boss had wished for Big Boss. Kojima outright says that had Snake been in Big Boss's place, he actually wouldn't have made the same mistakes as Big Boss did. That's right, Kojima outright says that Snake would have done a MUCH better job than his favorite MGS poster boy "Beeg Bawss". Just let that sink in

:exactly: Most characters in MGS follow different ideologies but the one that was closer to achieve what the Boss wanted was Solid Snake. She believed that the world was valuable, connected, borderless, and oppressed mostly by the illusion of difference. An illusion maintained by nations, war and patriotism

(btw the illusion of difference is a huge theme in MGS3 actually, that game is filled with postmodernism just like MGS2 it just can't afford to be as obvious as the previous game)

Snake in MGS4 didn't want to do anything because thats how Kojima felt at the time, it doesn't necessarily mean Philantrophy is like Snake now, "To let the world be" is about preventing controlling forces from achieving domination, letting the world be free from control

The point of Philantrophy is to take down the status quo, which is what the Boss wanted as well. Maybe... the Boss wanted to take action in a more direct way kind of like Big Boss, but in the end it seems The Boss and Snake actually wanted to get the same results, in my opinion

I think he is using Big Boss because he can be seen as both a hero and billain, much like Kojima himself. Some love him some hate him. It becomes clear when you think about Peace Walker's Allegory, at first I thought PW didn't have any kind of message but I think I was wrong.

With PW Kojima wanted us to experience what it's like to create something simple and small with good intentions, only to have it steadily grow into something controversial and dangerous along the way. (Which seems to be what he thinks about the MGS saga)

And maybe since he's still continuing the series, it would have been strange to pull snake immediately out of retirement, following his "final mission" from MGS 4. Personally, all of the Big Boss tie-ins have made me appreciate Snake all the more. I just wonder if we should expect any more Solid Snake games, especially since Kojima said that he isn't finished with the character as yet.

BBTS has ThreeA REX back in stock. In addition, PAK Raiden has dropped to $54.99 and Liquid is $64.99. I will have to pick up Liquid.
 
I think I'm done with the PAK MGS line after Liquid and Raiden. The scales are all ****ed up with the MGSV figures.

Back to collectables i missed all the chat of Figma vs Play Arts vs Revoltech

Figma, i think, is clearly the best line out of Japan right now. While i much prefer Play Arts scale, they are not living up to their full potential. Which is why alot of us are hating on it. Wonky paint app on the face, weird body proportions, for what? And biggest issue of all are the face sculpts for me. At a bigger scale how can they mess it up so bad all the time, especially now with new technologies like 3d printing. With the bad face paints it makes i way worse, but we can see they have the power to do good jobs which is what makes it more frustrating.

Figma on the other hand have immaculate paint jobs and no QC issues, and are excellent in regards to likeness. Even when they stylize they make it great unlike PlayArts. They do a great jobs at hiding the joints to like PlayArts

Revoltech are great at making extremely possible relatively cheap figures. Their stylizing is a matter of taste, but personally i like the anime-ish spin they put on things. Unfortunately bad paint and inconsistent sculpting puts it down.

Actually that's arguably cheaper than the original price if we're not accounting inflation. If we are accounting for inflation, then it's still around the same price as old PAKs like Snake and Gray Fox.

someone here claimed Revoltech has the most consistent QC & Figma otherwise though... also they were mocking about how exposed Figma joints were. Maybe they were referring to the figure where the guy puts his hand inside his spandex to make it look like he has major erection? Forgot the name but it's a Japanese comedian and that's his signature move.

Play Arts figure has always been steep in pricing, even if you look back at pre-Kai final fantasy figures, they were quite expensive compared to other figures back then.
