Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I have a feeling there will be no codes next year. If I was Sideshow and got inindated with calls I'd say a big see ya to them next year.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

It wasn't an issue, nobody was hurt by it, nobody who saw a fake code and then when they got told "oh no that isn't a code" by Sideshow didn't need to take it to the next level and call their customer service.

THAT was the issue, not the codes. That someone had the time and effort to call Sideshow and ***** about a conversation on a forum is the real issue.

We didn't sit here and chuckle to ourselves and go "Heh heh, how can we get people upset enough to call Sideshow???" we were having a conversation, and someone got upset and ran with it. My typing a code that said "savetheclocktower" is in no way was responsible for that person picking up their phone and calling customer service. Had I gone to that persons house and forced them at gunpoint to call customer service and complain about my post, then yes, thats my responsibility.

I don't think most of the people who called Sideshow were upset about "fake codes"--I think they thought the real codes weren't working and assumed there was a website problem. And if one code doesn't work, what if lots of other codes don't work? What if it's a problem specific to their browser? I can see how some people got confused. They weren't trying to rain on your parade.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

If your time was more valuable than this thread then when you saw that the first code was $5, you should have stopped there. You could have just as easily chosen to just participate in the things you liked, and skipped the $5 codes. So why did you stay after you saw how it worked on day one?

I liked the conversation. And my time wasn't more valuable than this thread--it was more valuable than $45.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I won't own up to something someone else did, the same as I wouldn't expect someone to own up for something I did. I completely appreciate your perspective on this and I agree with the sentiment. I just don't believe that it's worth curbing the expression of the many because of a few unidentified idiots. And this has nothing to do with free speech as this is a privately owned forum. I participate in this thread primarily for the camaraderie, and I expect, based on feedback, that many other people do as well.

If someone else wants to run a code dissemination thread with military precision, that's great. Maybe I'll subscribe to it and catch some info there. But no one should expect any other specific person (such as myself for example) to be slave to its operation. I'll do it on commission maybe if the rate is decent. ;)

You've called those who complained and called sideshow many names tonight. Including IDIOTS a few times. Some would think that those posting fake codes in a thread meant to help people are IDIOTS. You don't know the people who called specificlly r personally. So maybe name calling isn't needed. But that my opinion

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

If you're leveling an accusation come out and do it straight up and name names. Don't say "people" if you're talking about a specific person. The people doing the defending aren't defending their own actions because they weren't necessarily the ones who caused any problem to begin with. But speaking for myself, I'm defending the concept of this thread and the intelligence of its participants. I'm defending myself from baseless accusations.

I definitely think it's time for a private thread.

I think a private thread would be in the best interest of everyone next year :duff

Yup.

There's always someone that ruins it. I had no idea people were calling Sideshow about fake codes or complaining. That's pretty idiotic.

I'm pretty grateful for what they did this year. I thought they said not to expect codes again this spook, but low and behold, here they were. I don't get the excessive whining over FREE offerings that none of us are entitled to anyway. Buncha sorry neurotics.

This.

And for those thinking the fake codes did no harm, this could be a consequense of the calls that flooded SSC.

:lol

I think Melko and the others should step up - nominate yourselves as the 2015 Spooktacular Code Crew!

You'll all be responsible for a posting an up-to-date and accurate code-only thread; managing a mass email code notification system as soon as codes are released 24/7; and managing a mass group text message code notification system as soon as codes are released 24/7.

No fun, all business, and we all know who to blame if something goes wrong. :wave

Any time a company tries to do anything nice after a while people ruin it by complaining and whining and bitching about one thing or another. It is the self entitled attitude that people have these days.

Come on Pixel, really? Was it a bad move for people to call SS and complain about fake codes? Of course it was...no doubt. But, when it became apparent it was becoming a problem for SS customer service...it should have stopped...plain and simple. There's no excuse.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

To tell the truth, I'm underwhelmed by this Spooktacular. Of course I'm thankful for the free codes but frankly, the amount of time I had to spend at my computer refreshing screens kind of makes $45 seem...not worth the amount of time I had to spend getting it. I make $35 an hour where I work. I must have spent about 60 hours this week to earn that $45.

You should voice those concerns to Sideshow. That's precisely the behavior they despise on their social feeds. I'll also say you're looking at the whole thing in the wrong light, but everyone will make of any situation what they will. It's a shame you didn't get as much out of this than many others, and I'm not talking about financial compensation, which isn't' what this thread is about. There will always be a problem with a person who comes around looking for a payday. You really should have just asked to be put on our mailing list and avoided any need to refresh anything. Zero stress.

But if Uncle Bingo, gofourindian and yourself are feeling grateful for the rewards you've accumulated here on Dave's board, maybe you can each send a few bucks his way, like $25 membership fee.

And it doesn't matter what sets it off, there will always be people who complain because they're not getting something the minute they think they should get it.

Only if I get to call anyone who disagrees with me an idiot. And occasionally talk about atrocities committed by the United States, because, well, it's a thread devoted to dolls after all and why shouldn't we be talking about atrocities? Also maybe alien abductions. :rotfl

You can't count on everyone to abide by a "no joking" policy. My suggestion of a private thread contains any such problems. Think of it as putting the animals in cages if you'd like.

That comment was in context at the time, it's not now, so I'm not sure whom you're trying to impress. Honestly, you bury your argument deeper every time you post. I have nothing against you, but it's painfully obvious you were not dialed into this thread so you really don't have any place commenting on it.

I have no idea what you're referring to with the other parts of the text I trimmed.

Nope, there will be no posting in the thread. No discussion, just codes. Just the way you want it.

So, you have a year to prepare yourself for 2015 Spook. Good luck buddy!

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Not to derail the conversation here but does anyone know the basic rules of SS's "cash" prizes? You have a set amount. Is it pick whatever up until that amount, pick one thing near that amount, if it's more pay the difference? I've never won anything in my life and I'm not sure how to approach it. Especially with as little info as they give ya.

Your name looks like a fake code, I am not pleased with this.

I would assume its like winning a gift card with X amount of dollars on it.

Your best to send an email to Susan at the [email protected] email address.

I was given Y4NK33PL4N3T as a code last year. I tried it and it didn't work, and after calling SS CS and complaining about it I'm emotionally scarred. We shall never forget. :lecture
