I doubt obtaining the rights to a series of films gives you carte blanche to produce whatever characters you want, whenever you want. I imagine some studio rep is involved, whose thought process may go no further than "make something from the last one, that's the one people will remember."

The studio is involved, and marvel. With some marvel they also have to get the actors involved.

As for them picking the worst film (x3) as some are saying...x3 was the highest grossing film. Box offices is not the overriding or main factor, but it does show that many people did not think it junk. Also, X3 had significantly more characters to choose from. They also picked up the licenses fairly recently(or renewed it) as x3 wolverine is only like two years past release. So they could very well make other figures. And given the huge problems involved with the two newer xmen films it's likely that x3 license gets used again.

As for spidey, the last of the original 3 also was the least successful box office, but again offered the most character choice. Even if you don't end up making a wide variety of character figures it is best to have that option in case the license takes off. That's why films like predator and terminator are such good figure rights to aquire and produce...you get many characters that you can make out of reused tooling and rights. Spider-Man 3 had two Spider-Man suits. If your only confident in spidey selling then which film affords the best opportunity to make the most profit? The one with multiple suits.

It's important to understand that often times the company and people producing the things we collect are often not fans, or if they are fans, may not like what we like or see things like we do. These are business, whose goal is profit. No profit, no business. It's not always ideal, but I think we are pretty luck that a company like hot toys is out there. Action figures as a product didn't exist before the 1960s, and it wasn't until the last 10-15 years that pose able high end figures came to be at all. We could all still be stuck with mego xmen and whatnot.

As I said many times before, I'd be happy with just Erik and Shaw. And nazy coin as the only accessory.

Well, spidey could've been from any of the films really, but yeah. No Goblin, no Ock, no X1 Logan, no Nightcrawler etc.

Wtf indeed.. :lol

HT have a history of making... let's be brutally honest here. Dumb Choices. Watchmen. Heeeellooooo! No Rorschach? Damn, both the comic and the movie are his story. Sure, Comedian is a second choice, but far distant.

Just... dumb. They lucked out that Iron Man's popular. Plus the 3rd movie had the producers spewing up rehashed recycled armors everywhere because of "cool lots of suits", otherwise they might have to produce something different and/or good. Heaven forbid.

And where's my Doc Ock? Damn, still all these years later SM2 is a great comic book flick. One of the top 5. Why not? Where's Rorschach? So much wasted potential everywhere.

New goblin instead of Venom or even Sandman
Amber instead of Sweet Pea
Kevin Flynn Instead of Clu or Rinzler
Angelica instead of Blackbear

Yep they make lots of stupid character choices.

2 Sao Fengs instead of a Barbossa.

The Watchmen line was the dumbest, though, with no Rorschach - the obvious money character.

They were going to make that mistake with XFC, too, though, at least to me - Xavier before Magneto, who was obviously the breakout lead character of that film. I would never have ordered a Xavier without Magneto.

Their choice to put out Silk Specter first was really stupid... what did they expect?

It's a shame, I wouldn't hesitate to order Rorschach if they made him. Dr. Manhattan too.

I thought starting with either guy was fine, Mcavoy's Professor X has done just as good a job to me.

I liked Xavier in XFC just fine. But Magneto was the stand out character to me - and without knowing if HT was going to release him as well as a Xavier, I would never have ordered Xavier. Xavier on my shelf without a Magneto would've just left me unsatisfied. Xavier didn't work as a stand alone figure for me.

They burned me with Watchmen, so that's why I would never have ordered Xavier without knowing Magneto was coming - or having a custom Magneto be a certainty.

Same, Magneto before Xavier every day of the week, no disrespect to Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy. But the more action-orientated nature of Magneto alone makes him a more toyetic character. Pretty silly of HT to go with Xavier first. Of course, neither ever happened.

Yeah, Magneto made that entire movie for me, Fassbender was great.

He's probably in the top 3 characters I want a figure of. Magneto, Rorschach and Faora. It'd be great if they picked the Watchmen line up again later down the line and started with the characters everyone would buy.

I really think we may see a Fassneto and Wolverine from HT. I have a hard time believing they would be going through all of the trouble to get the actors likeness rights if they didn't seriously intend on making at least a couple of figures from this line. Magneto and Wolvie are sure bets in my opinion.
