Now if it just looked like this... only not Medi or a plastic clock....

Notice please now the size difference, not just height.

Anyway.... Sideshow's is still the superior set. Hands down.

If you want to burn some time, play with superimposing the images. Don't use the angled SSC photo though if you want accuracy. It's shot from above - you can tell that it's distorted the perspective significantly - if not, then try the superimposing with it to verify. See how you can see the top of R2's dome (the blue circle)?

Doing this you'll be able to verify that R2's own proportions of width/height are a very good match to the movie stills.

And that the two figures are off by close to 1/4" (using the height provided on the specs as the base line reference). No one should need calipers to see that. :lol

I don't think it's perspective, the "volume" (if that's the right term) just somehow seems off but as I said, it will be fine posed right. With the Medi ones it was way too drastic to work.

Where's those Medi-kids now?

Want more? Huh? Do ya, punk?

The Medicom 3PO is on a stand there, and R2 is tilted, so not quite fair! But see what you mean.

Which 3PO and R2 is that? Looks great - I'm assuming they are not 1/6!

I've already verified the "volume" (girth and height ratio) are correct. You can superimpose the best frontal shots of R2 (from Sideshow's site, not the photos from SDCC) onto one of those movie stills to verify for yourself. It's near perfect.

The Taito R2 is 1/6 mentioned previously. And that should be the Medi 3PO as Wor-Gar mentioned as well.

actually if you take the picture on sideshows website and lay it over the movie image, you'll see the movie image has R2 angled slightly so that he isn't fully straight on, however the girth is accurate, because putting the sideshow R2 picture on top of the movie image you'll find that he matches so, really the 3p0 is the one we just need to wait for Sideshow to put up for preorder take the supplied photo and then see how that looks on top of a movie photo

Don't want what bad enough? The scale to be correct? I just want them to look good and close enough and they do.

I was being a smartarse. I'm very happy with the pair together also. Clearly the figures aren't 100% in scale with one another. But they're 90% or better, and this conversation has entered the nerdest-of-the-nerds territory in determining how close to 90 or 100% the difference is.

Screw it, I'm going to beat off in the shower.

I'll bet no one will complain about the height or girth on these...er...figures. They might do some measuring though!

I just did some google searching and that 3PO and R2 are actually the Kotobukiya ArtFX 1/10 set.

Oh, that must be it. :lol

Hey - just sayin'... :lol

I don't know PP.. the girth comment definitely has merit.

Film R2 is wider in comparison from what I'm seeing.

I think the image of these two is so indelibly etched in your mind that you notice something's off even when it's close. People keep bringing up pics, but R2 (subjectively to my eye) is slightly too short and slightly too small overall in terms of volume/girth/width. Put him on the copier and blow him up by 5-10% and it would be there. But R2 posed standing in front and with a slight 1/8" lift will correct it.

While I really was not a fan of this PF set, the overall "picture" of them looks better matched...

They look the same to me.

It is very subjective. Below is the closest matching of the SSC 1/6 and PF 3PO's I can find to then judge the two R2s' overall size.

The 1/6 R2 is slightly in front of the 1/6 3PO (making R2 bigger,) whereas the PF droids on the right are level, but even with that, the "volume" of the R2 on the right seems more than the one on the left.

it's obviously geek to do this, but I have R2 pre-ordered, so it's also prudent to try to guess what you're getting. It is a gorgeous piece, honestly one of SSC's best (unreleased as it is) but it just comparatively seems a teensy bit small overall... unless Threepio is a tiny bit tall that is.:gah:

Yeah, it's definitely out. No way are you going to enjoy this pair in the long term. I mean sure, you'll be happy at first, with the excitement that comes with unboxing a doll you've shelled out two hundred dollars for. But as the new figure smell wears off, the size difference will eat away at you, day by day, until all you can see is the 3 millimetre gap between what is and what you know should be.

And months hence, without even being fully aware of it, you'll start an R2 2.0 petition thread. But by then, nobody will listen. Nobody at all.

And the equation of possibility will eat at you... HT + EP7 = R2(to the power of 10):monkey4
