Re: Predator Reboot...

I agree that Predators felt totally unoriginal. Though I doubt I'll ever want to see it again, it was enjoyable enough for a modern action movie to waste a couple of hours on. Those AVP movies had no redeeming qualities to me, though, and that makes them worse. They weren't bad enough to be funny bad, just bad enough to be bad, like an Uwe Boll movie. I should disclose that I didn't even watch the second one all the way through because it was so damn dark I couldn't tell what was going on.

The AVP movies are kind of boring. AVP is beautiful to look at as far as the sets and the lighting goes. whoever worked on lights did a really great job. But if feels like a cheesy pg 13 horror movie with all the cuts any time someone was about to get killed.

If AVP was rated R and they showed the violence, and the predators were less childish, it could have been a pretty good movie.

AVPR Fixed this problem by making it a hard R and making the aliens and the predator truly dangerous. And by having more action. But while they fixed these problems that AVP had, They ruined what AVP did right which was have good lighting and good sets. AVPR also made the humans too cheesy and make them feel like a soap opera,

a problem that AVP didn't really have as bad as AVPR did.

Seems like if you were able to fix AVP and AVPR using only the strengths of each movie you could have a really awesome movie.

Re: Predator Reboot...

P1 and Aliens are my personal favourite creature features. 10/10

Any less than that and I don't know what I'd be docking the points for. I love those films and have zero suggestions on how they could be better in my view.

Re: Predator Reboot...

Paul W. S. Anderson the **** did more damage to the Predator name than anyone.

Yes AVP:R was far to dark but Wolf kicked ass and Predators should not have followed the VS theory that the Predators hunted in threes. Berserker should have been the sole Predator in the movie and I agree it did reek of 'My Predators are bigger and badder' and I have to call them 'Super Predators' syndrome.

how to make the first predator better? (or make the remake better?)

Easy, make the same movie as the first one, BUT make it from the Predator's point of view. Show him stalking the group, show him killing the guerrilla forces before Dutch team arrives. Show him killing Poncho.
Show the predator Arriving on Earth on his ship at the beginning. I'm serious I would love to see a predator movie from his side.

But that stuff wouldn't make the movie better. It would remove some of the mystery and dramatic impact that made the film so compelling. In fact, that is the kind of thing I would expect more of from a modern day reboot/remake--forget about the dramatic storytelling conventions and just show all the stuff the fanboys want to see. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that--it depends on the objectives of the film--but shoehorning more stuff into a movie doesn't necessarily make it better, and in many times it does make things worse.

Re: Predator Reboot...

well i was thinking more of how the reboot would be just as good as the original. My bad, I should have explain myself better

I figured that. Although in my post I was talking only about P1 in and of itself, nothing about the reboot.

Re: Predator Reboot...

A huge part of the fun of the first Predator was waiting to see what the creature finally looked like and also figuring out its tactics and "rules" as the story progressed. You really can't do that again without redesigning the creature and its capabilities, and once you go there you might as well just make an unrelated movie.

Re: Predator Reboot...

Ummmmm, no.
AVP franchise is nor PREDATOR nor ALIEN, it is a stupid and childish concept so they did ok :lol

Well he did bring the crap to the big screen so he is the snakes head or the horses arse if you prefer. :lol

They may very well redesign the creature (I hope not) but still use the PREDATOR name to sell tickets.

they can by changing the settings or making the prey stronger or have better technology.

they could make the predators be more clever and smarter. That is something they have not done in 5 movies. Yes the predators become invisible, they can set up traps, They are patient and wait.

But what else? We have never seen their full potential as far as how smart they can be. I wish they made a movie where the predator loses all his gear and has to find a way to either escape humans or try to kill them with nothing but his wits. Predators rely too much on their gadgets so it would be interesting to see what would happen if a predator ends up bare bones.

I Guess that is describing what Dutch had to do, so I guess it would be cool to see a reverse Dutch where the Predator is the one trying to outsmart the prey from the get go

Re: Predator Reboot...

Like ALIENS and RoboCop, Predator doesn't need a reboot. There's nothing in the first movie that still doesn't stand up today. Hell the creature effects are actually superior to some designs that came out THIS YEAR.
