I keep hoping he will do something new and fresh other than Bean, lol.
We are ready for a new Blackadder already!

He bought himself new wheels recently and is dating someone half his age as well so I'm sure he is really busy at the moment. :wink1:

Well since we are living longer being 60 may be the new 'mid-life' crisis age....................I'm not gonna convince you am I? :lol

Well i read an article about them having cracked the ageing problem about a month or two back. The article said that they are in a position to reverse ageing in older people and retard it in young people.
It's a simple matter of replenishing an enzyme in the brain that starts to degrade and run low once people pass puberty. The enzyme keeps the part of your brain that keeps your cells reproducing perfectly according to the original blueprint. When it runs low, your cells reproduce themselves with minor errors over time, and it's a copy of a copy of a copy, etc.
It is reckoned that with this at full strength, people would live for indefinite periods(Barring accident).
The implementation could be done in a few ways. Adding it to the water supply, a pill supplement, or similar.
But it's unlikely to ever be implemented of course.

Seriously that is legit? Sounds like something from a movie.

Totally serious.
They have been working on it for a few years.
I read it in New Scientist.
The article said that if people stopped dying tomorrow, we would run out of food and room in three years.
The only way for it to work(And the earth remain a viable home for us all), would for a compulsory(Reversible), vasectomy in males before the full onset of puberty.
Populations could still rise slowly, but if people started living for a hundred years, two hundred years, etc, we could have so long to accomplish goals that many things would have to change.

That sort of stuff is just mind boggling and I feel would lead to all sorts of trouble. Ageing and death is part of life.

Of course.
But if they put something in the water and within seven years your body rebuilt itself, error free so you looked and felt 18 again, i expect that's something a lot of men and women would want.

Oh I understand that point 100%. But a few glasses of Vodka can do that for a few hours and then we can get back to normal. This sounds like some sort of 'Fountain of Youth' lark.

Of course.
It can never be allowed to happen.

But imagine if you can be 18, spend five years at uni and come out trained. You work at that vocation for thirty years, rise as high as you can(Still look 18), then decide you want to become a pilot. You train in that and work at that for twenty years(Still look 18), and then decide at the ripe age of 73(And still looking 18), to settle down and have kids. You have built up savings and spend the first ten years of your kids lives at home, enjoying them growing up, then decide to retrain as an architect.
If you had no limits on your time, you could likely do many things and do them well for many years.
It's a great idea to ponder.

Oh I agree the possibilities would be great and thinking about all you could achieve would be wonderful but as you say it will not happen. And what about those poor sods that look 40 when they are 18? Doubt they would like to go back. :lol

In all serious though I agree it sounds good in theory and the scenario you paint would be great but I say let nature takes its course. Also who would be the initial 'guinea pigs' to see if there is any side effects?

I had a friend at high school that claimed his Mum had never aged a day his whole life. He stayed on the other side of town and they were Jehovah's witnesses so i was "worldly" and not allowed to hang around with him outside of school hours, so i never saw his Mum till years later. When i did, she was in her mid forties and *looked it*. I never ever said anything, even when he mentioned how his Mum had never aged.
One day, i was with him visiting his grandparents(On his Mum's side), and there were pics of his Mum as a young woman. In nearly all of them(Which her parents assured me were taken when she was a teenager), she LOOKED to be aged 42...
So, i got what he meant. She had always looked as she did in her forties, lol.

They've been testing this stuff out for years on animals genetically similar to humans. It works apparently. As to whether anyone with less than ten billion in the bank will ever have access to it is another matter.

Eternal youth serum. Give it to me. Now.

I'm guessing such a thing would also act as cancer immunity.

They reckon it will cure practically any genetic disease.
They also reckon that there's a possibility that if a leg were cut off, this might be a route to it just growing back.
It's a bizarre notion.

I wish they wouldn't tell us that such a thing even exists when its pretty much guaranteed it will never come into common usage. That's just cruel.

Highlander was what initially came into my mind as well a-dev.

Yeah it is like the old game show Bullseye trick, lets show the contestants what they 'could' have won. :lol

I am sure there would be some people who didn't want to accept the vasectomy. If we were all going to live forever, the only way to make sure the planet could sustain us would be to immediately stop EVERYONE having kids(Unless there was some natural disaster killing many thousands, in which case special dispensation could be made).

Usually a speedboat for people who were landlocked, or someone without a car winning a trailer or a caravan....
