WOW, the GMK looked enormous and this looks a foot taller, this is easily the biggest mass market Godzilla ever.

Is it just me, or is anybody else out there just a little disappointed with the overall look of the Gigantic 95? I ordered it, as I do all X-Plus, but I have seen smaller versions look better. At this size, they should be dead on. I collect a lot of resin models and I have an 8 inch that I swear is better. It's a shame, because the 95 is one of my favorites, right behind the 89. I know resin models are better for detail, but the shape of the body even seems off.

Does anybody else reading this thread collect models? I have been searching for a KOC Aqua Mothra for over 10 years with no luck and would appreciate any assistance.

Really hate that X-Plus has slowed down on their releases in the 25cm and 30cm Godzilla lines. I have been dying for Gabara and, fingers crossed, a King Kong. I can't seem to get enough Kongs. Here is my favorite piece in my model collection.GvKK1.jpgGvKK2.jpgGvKK3.jpgGvKK4.jpg

I don't claim that this model is perfect, and I don't own it (wish I did), but this 30cm model by Image is much more accurate than the X-Plus. I do have the 20cm Image version and it's still better.bg1.jpgbg4.jpgbg3.jpgbg2.jpg

The Gigantic series is a more stylized portrayal of the characters.

This model kit you posted looks great, but the one big distraction is the protruding groin/chest. Looks too strange, especially from the side view. I don't know why they would make him look pregnant.

I love some of the model kits but do not have the skill to paint and/or assemble them. They'd look sloppy.

I just realized I had seen this somewhere before. This was a model offered by Kaibutsuya at last year's Wonderfestival in Japan. Looks like X-Plus just bought someone else's piece. I don't have a problem with that, as some of their early pieces came from Mr. Niwa's Monster Maker 28 collection, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, and Godzilla 68. However, MM28 is way better than Kaibutsuya. I don't think artistic liberties are at work with this. Kaibutsuya has never been great on accuracy.95model.jpg

MaulFan, you are correct about the GMK. I just realized that it's the same company that I made mention of with the 95. Not a fan of Kaibutsuya. I had their 84 and had to get rid of it. Not one for stylized.

Now that you mention it I did see that before

Aren't the X-Plus Gigantic Series based on pre-existing sculpts?

For example, GMK is.

I believe '95 is too, and the sculpts their using are stylized ones.

Would love to see them do the '84 from Kaibutsuya.

I forgot they were using preexisting sculpts

That's my grail, even though it's not spot on to the '84 suit, it's one of the most evil depictions of it can close enough that I love it.

I've come across it a couple of times in recent years. You might try Matt at KaijuModelers. He might have one. It's listed on his site, but it hasn't been updated in years. I'll keep an eye out.

I'm not the greatest fan of the stylized approach to the gigantic series. But the 95 reminds me of my old Bandai Premium which is why I want it! Still very cool, but if I had to choose, I would prefer either a 25cm or 30cm figure with dead on accuracy than some extra large piece with artistic freedom. Again, just IMHO.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. This does remind one of the Super Premium figure and that should be a problem. Even though X-Plus labels these as Garage Toys, they are not to be considered toys. They are garage kits that are pre-assembled and painted. Accuracy should be paramount. Leave stylized to toy lines. I understand that X-Plus has an easy extension to their offerings by using some existing sculpts, but find something that lives up to their standards. Although it's not a 95, this 89 by Gow Row might have been a nicer choice. It's the same size as the Kaibutsuya 95. Don't know what kind of agreement X-Plus has with Kaibutsuya, but I'm not going to be happy if they keep going this route. big bio.jpg

I don't know how it works, but I think X-Plus has used existing sculpts for other pieces besides the Gigantic series. I feel like you can almost tell, some X-Plus pieces are almost perfect to the suit, while others have a sort of X-Plus style and are off and it's the off ones that seem original where the spot on ones seem like they must be borrowed.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the MM28 Gorosaurus, Anguirus and Godzilla 1968 were all used by X-Plus. I have yet to recognize any other figures as having been pre-existing model kits. There was some talk of using Resin Chef's 30cm Kumonga and Kamakiras kits at one point, but I guess that never materialized.anguirusb.jpgg68c.jpggorosaurusb.jpg

I'm just glad I've got no interest in the Heisei Series; otherwise my wallet would be screaming. None of these newer X-Plus announcements are doing anything for me in fact - I'm kind of nervously awaiting news on the Diamond re-issues... I don't suppose anyone here has some inside scoop on that...

Aside from re-releases, just give me a 1965 Godzilla already. I don't think X-Plus has done anything from Godzilla vs Monster Zero actually, which is a crime of almost epic proportions! :rotfl

Hell yeah! :panic:

Do you have anymore info on this '89 kit?

Hopefully you did not buy that Megalon. You can buy 2 of these with that money sit tight for so few months; sell one for 9 Hundy plus and buy your Megalon and in the end you will have saved 400 plus

This is a current release by Gow Row. It is 50cm tall and 138cm long. Retail price is 58,000 yen. So you probably need to plunk down at least $800-$900 unless you can get Gow Row to send you one directly. I don't know if they will do that. I always deal with someone in Japan that buys the stuff for me.
