That looks great! :rock

You got it. :duff

This really does look great. Did you do any other mods? I can see what people said about the thickness of the plastic being toylike, but the Hasbro dome has such perfect size and shape. It's a fair trade off.

Thanks all. I did modify a generic smaller body and padded it with cotton. Looks better to scale, I'll post pics this weekend!

I don't have a Vader yet, but someday...after a sell a couple figures. I would also like a painted ESB/ROTJ, if possible......and thanks so much.

This is GREAT news Steph!

Painted ESB for me please and also, painted ANH if these are going to be offered again.

The angle of the sides on the Hasbro dome is a perfect match to the angle on my full size, cast from original dome so I'm wondering if there's any chance the angle can be left the same or is it too late for that request?

If you're using a "20th Century" ROTJ casting as the source of your measurements, that dome suffered from excessive flared sides due to rushed casting of the helmet and more specifically, it also had the length trimmed so it has a "hair cut" appearance. They only used that 20th Century helmet on the tour to promote the release of the Special Edition Trilogy in 1997.

Check the eFX ANH dome to get a good idea of what the flare and length should be.

ESB / ROTJ is the same sculpt as the ANH, they just cut the widows peak off to square it off a bit more but all other proportions / details were the same.

Thanks!
Chris

I hope there will be a sale thread somewhere, I would want one of each as well. Not that I have any Vaders to put them on yet, but eventually...

I hope I'm not interjecting with modification talk and images…

My current mod goals: shorten Vader to 13.25" total via torso and legs, widen suit sleeves, tighten legs/crotch to make up for the torso mod and try to get rid of some of the bunchiness. I've put some rule in place for myself. When done, this guy should be at least 95% original Sideshow 2014 parts. Which means no swapping over to older domes or suits. Generally speaking, modding versus kit bashing.

Here are some chest disassembly shots of the new Sideshow Vader:

I think I'm going to go old-school with the torso mod. At first I thought of a few ways to make a new pivot rod (the thing with the ball and donut) or ways of cutting and shortening the existing one, but simpler should be better here. I plan to use a bead or steel nut in place of the ball section and a woven elastic band in place of the rod. That will leave the abdomen attached to the upper torso via a "rubber band" just like the old Mego figures. This has a big advantage of length adaptability which mans that rotating the upper torso won't put undo stress on a fixed plastic part. To achieve the shortening I'm first going to remove the inner beveled rim on the upper torso pieces. That might be all that's required, I don't want to lose too much height on this first step.

Hips and lower body:

After a re-meaure I'll cut the legs at the mid thigh and possibly the rounder part of the calves to keep things looking in proportion.

Bodysuit inside-out:

The sleeves will be restitched, though I'm not planning parallel stitch, it will be at a new angle, which will probably lose a bit of unnecessary material off the ends. Then the crotch and upper thigh area tapered a little bit to tighten it up.

Whay would you turn the bodysuit inside out? Vader would NEVER wear his bodysuit inside out. :cuckoo:

Cking, it could be that the angle was different from the Hasbro dome on mine due to slight compression during shipping more so than a conscious decision by Hurricane. In any case, the plastic on these is of good quality but easily adjusted with a little hair dryer heating. I am excited about the prospect of getting an ESB/ROTJ Hurricane dome as I think it will significantly improve the figure.

Adding new domes to the ESB Vader very much constitutes a mod and is on topic.
