Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

How did I miss your name :slap

Yeh, for $1,200 plus shipping and V.A.T if it's not perfect it's getting lashed across the Atlantic right back at them :lecture

No worries mate - heck - it's almost 1am back in my 'omeland - so you must be getting a bit sleepy :)

The only "returns" pain for us International types is getting the customs & import duties back off our respective governments - which will be a fair chunk of dosh for this wee beastie! (12% for me, 20% for you?)

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Don't worry, SS will delay this for another 6 months to solve "issues" as usual. Expected a whole new set of pictures soon with upper pony tails gone, quills added, and maybe sligtly angle change on the leg.
If not then how they run their business is beyond me. I don't want ex so I can play waiting game til it's released and pick up reg for a retail.

I'd be willing to wait for corrections - but it's not like the release date is next month so they should have time ALREADY - IF they have the inclination.

Given their apathy towards "sorting things out" (* the stories I could tell about me trying to get them to VeRO eBay recast auctions of their releases :slap *) - I'm not going to bet on ANY changes. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Is Narin really doing a 1/3? When is this coming out and is there a thread about this anywhere you could link me to?

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

No thread I can point you at - other than maybe this one https://www.thehunterslair.com/topic/27247-์narin-wip-of-2012/page-2

Narin puts out teasers for his stuff and given he works on several pieces at the same time, it can take a while for news to filter out.

Your best bet is to keep your eyes on The LAIR, Predatorstuff and Narin's own forum.

I tend to find out about WIP's through those sites and because we're good friends (he's responsible for my kids eying a career in McDonalds instead of going to college).

It's tough, I look at this everyday and just imagine what could have been. It's just so much money. I too will wait to see if Narin or anyone else can come up with a better statue. If not I may just have to look at other Predator items for my collection.

Yesterday I saw the release of the IM Legendary scale , again - mind was blown at how the pricing structure works at SS.

. . . I too will wait to see if Narin or anyone else can come up with a better statue . . .

Narin's sculpts - be they movie-based or of his own design are always perfect. His own Predator designs are the best in the world (if only Fox would hire him for the movie-designs  ).

Adding up kit cost + shipping + hiring a painter (if you can't build yourself) means this route isn't cheap though. I'll probably be asking Narin to build one for me when he releases this.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

An equivalent Narin sculpt plus painting and shipping will likely cost a lot more than the Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette.

If cost is not an issue, then the Narin route (if it happens) will be the way to go. If cost is an issue, then the Sideshow route is the way. Although at $1.2k before shipping and taxes, this is still a lot of money. :)

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

I'd still love a Narin sculpted Predator piece regardless of the origin, and at 1:3 you could count me in for sure. I'd love to have it built by Narin and painted by Joe. If only i had a connection,... at all.... which i don't :(

almost nothing SS releases has good pricing. Doesn't stop me, just have to be more selective.

take my advice on this. Yea, in theory that sounds like a great idea, but once it gets shipped and you have a breakage of some sort, have no option for partial refunds or a replacement, it's heart breaking to pay that much and have it break. That's a lot of money for no good protection during shipment. A 1/3 P2 painted by Joe will run you 2k minimum. I've learned my lesson. Joe is one of the best in the business, but I will never commission him again unless it's a repaint of a statue with a good shipping box. And people complain about pieces losing value with SS. You get something like that broken, you just lost $300-500 in value.

Did this happen to you with Joe? On your Wolf?

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

With quality pinning for joints that must be connected, earth magnets for those joints that can remain non-glued (per Sideshow assembly), along with careful packing, damage risk is reduced.

Better still, if you have the kit in-hand, build your own polystyrene case with bubble-wrap lining to suit how the build will be once assembled. Then the painter can use that to ship back.

With the right precautions things will survive (unless you get a moronic customs agent who wants to deliberately damage stuff). Even then - insure the heck out of it and you'll at least get enough back for damage to get it repaired.

@cartman - maybe join this site - https://theclubhouse1.net/ - there are any number of talented sculptors & builders on there that you can call on - including Narin & Joe.

Depends what you mean by "good". A premium format I think is worth $400-$500 in today's market and I believe a Legendary is probably worth around $2000 due to the scale, detail and obvious jump in quality.

A Maquette like this is sitting bang in the middle with no justification other than it's got "Maquette" written on the box. It's smaller than some Premium formats yet more expensive in some cases more than double.

Like many I could justify it had it not had so many things either wrong or just missing all together. For me it has to be an amazing statue and then price goes out the window and I jump on board.

Deep down I don't want this because it's an awesome statue, I want it because it's a Predator 2 statue , I love Predator and I don't have one. That's enough to tell me that I'd be making a mistake.

Like I've said though if I can see it in person I may change my mind. The paint in particular would have to be really something else.

I cannot wait to see Narins P2, the detail he gets into his 1/6 sculpts is incredible enough... ever mind something twice the size. I'm looking forward to seeing which pose he goes with as well.

I'd still love SS to go ahead and make some changes to this though so we have two options...

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

There really isn't much to find yet, just a quick work in progress picture. He'll put more out when he's happy to no doubt. :yess:

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Following on, has anyone made stands for the 1:5 extra portraits?
They're a pain to store with the fragile dreads.
Might give it a feeble attempt.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Before I start a new thread, can anybody recommend someone who makes custom bases for statues?

Try the Clubhouse link I posted towards the top of this page. The Hunters Lair would be another option.

For the recent 1/5 series, I only bought the P1 & the P2 Elder (the rest were just too "ballet dancer / opera singer" for my tastes). The Elder doesn't have a swapout head, and I just placed my P1 swapout gently at the base of the main figure. Shouldn't be too tough to make one though.

I picked up the Scar & Wolf.
Scar's ok despite the silly pose but it takes up too much space, Wolf is awesome.
Was discussing the idea of making a stand earlier with Matt, might have a go.
