Going to create some controversy here...

The more I look at R2 (and compared to many photos from the films and exhibitions) the more I think the scale is wrong... he's too big.

He's a quick comparison, but do your homework and I think you'll agree.

The top of his dome is higher than the circles on 3PO's chest, yet in the original it's perfectly in line with the bottom of the circles.
I also think R2's "feet" might be too tall - the distance between the ground and his butt looks more on the SSC.

Just got mine, very cool. I like it a lot, but I think that some details on R2 could be better. I'm building a 3D model of him so I've had a bunch of time looking at references, there's a few things here and there that aren't right that's a little bothersome, and some parts where they took shortcuts since it's made of plastic.

I still really like it though and it's a big step up from what we've had before.

Can you retake your pic from the same top down angle for a better comparison? Thee might be some lens distortion on the top pic too looking at the shape of Artoo's body.

I'm sure it's possible to find BP's for R2 online and double check the measurements. He's 18" diameter, I know that one off the top of my head.

Looking forward to mine showing up tomorrow.

Really worth the argument? :slap:dunno

I sometimes thought maybe R2 might be a tad too big but never really cared.

There's no doubt both droids are far from perfect.
But I'm glad the weathering turned out good and that I finally have them in 1/4 scale.

Of course there are other times that the scale seems just fine.

After doing a little bit of searching I think the scale is just fine.

ok, so I received my regular version, and overall am very happy. To put the batteries in threepios faceplate was a challenge and with both of them in, the light up function was not working. I was ready to return it when I popped one of them out and voila! It works on a single battery. My other question is did anyone else receive theirs without the battery compartment cover for R2? I'm going to shoot Sideshow an email that mine was not included.

I have decided to buy the regular versions too, just to compare. EX arrived today but I have not opened them yet.

Anyone know a good dealer that can get me a discount on the regulars? :) Thanks!

That's what I would like to see also. A side-by-side comparison.

Just got mine and I'm loving them. One note on threepio's batteries. They are a ***** to get in. It's not clear from the instructions which way they're supposed to face either. I tried them both ways (with a lot of work) and neither way got them to light. However I noticed that the eyes flickered when putting one battery in. So I left just one in- works perfectly!

Okay space ace beat me to it- save your batteries!

Some great photos of ComputerFly's droids from over at SF.

Someone should contact SSC and ask them about the batteries for 3PO. I mean is it supposed to be one or two?? I know one works but are the eyes as bright as they should be with just one?

Can't wait to see mine In hand!!!

Hey look! An actual thread that was devoted to the droids.. we had this the entire time?? Who knew?!

As for the droids, they are great. C-3PO is solid. R2 is light, but he looks just awesome on display. Pretty good weathering, which was my biggest concern. Turned out nothing to worry about. The base is solid poly and very heavy.

The biggest thing that irks me about the entire set is the batteries that go into C-3PO. The F'n things are too G'D' big to fit correctly. I'm calling them up. They need to fix this, either with smaller diameter batteries, or a new faceplate.

I was amazed at how strong the magnets are that hold C3-PO's face on. The face snapped together when I got it close. I really like strong magnets though! Great job on this one Sideshow. I agree with what everyone had said about C3P0 feeling solid... really well made... and unfortunately, R2 is definitely a hunk of plastic... but he looks great so I'm very happy with them. Haven't seen the regular in person but I think they look great too. Overall I think I like the EX C3PO and the regular R2.
