Also, the way the batmobile is covered by the six big pieces of connecting styrofoam, it would have taken alot to make those compress so that the cacoon could penetrate the car itself. None of my styrofoam was cracked or damaged where I thought that the integrity of the structure gave way.

Good point! and if you are using the same technique used by the HT instruction video of unboxing you are applying even more pressure on the car against the shield. If you remember, or have seen it, HT recommends opening it upside down with the shield still on it! If the shield is the culprit this may scratch it or add additional scratches already done from shipping. It's my theory :lecture

I also believe the scratches were caused by the car being upside down while the screws were being put in at the factory. I also believe this is why the protective plastic on the shield is scratched up.

If it was the cacoon causing the scratches, then the fins would have scratches too since they protrude the most, but non have scratches there.
Not necessarily. Pressure in the middle of the box would cause the white foam to press down at this point (circled in red), which in turn would cause the cocoon to squash down over the car's canopy and scratch the car where the plastic meets the plastic. In the back where the fins are, the edges of the box itself would keep the foam from pressing downward, and the fins being at the farthest edges of the car would distribute the weight more evenly, thus preventing the cocoon from squashed down over them like it does in the center where there is no support.

Something heavy presses on the center of the box, white packaging presses on center of shield, shield presses on car.

Interesting.... Holy Bat-shield, Vortex, if the shield theory of not enough padding is the reason you might be on to something, Vortex! :thud:

Sideshow's Returns department still hasn't emailed me back yet.

Damn! I got a response right away. Filed it on Friday and the guy called me on Tuesday. They must be busy with more damaged vehicles being filed.

Best of luck!

There is a middle section of styrofoam that is missing on that pic that would of help distribute the weight. But maybe the theory of it being packaged upside down and a clumsy *** worker helped with the scratches.
HT seriously needs to hire one or two QC person to inspect and sign every product before it is packaged.

Yeah car and shield surely slid around a bit while trying to align the screw holes. And then you have the pressure of the drill...

We will never know for sure what caused the damage. :lol

Yes there is, but I don't believe the other piece would do anything to prevent the styrofoam over the canopy from pushing downward. A single piece of styrofoam the length of the box would have, though.

Finally got a response from Sideshow. It's either the $75 credit or the $65 refund or return in full. No replacement option available.

So it's going back for a FULL refund.

Once my card is credited I will be placing another order. If that one is received damaged then it will go back. I'll keep doing this as many times as it takes to get a perfect one. Hopefully they will get the message.

I honestly can't see how soft foam can cause a hard and sharp scratch like some of what I've seen. Foam may be capable some of the "rub shine" that we saw with the first Tumbler's packaging (but even that was caused by contact against HARD styrofoam packaging. The deep scratches in the paint are indicative of contact with something much harder than the soft foam inserts.

This seems more likely than "the foam did it" theory. If anything, "not enough foam coverage did it". Like others have said, the uniformity of many of the scratches, being mostly in the same place, and of the same type and severity whether or not the car had enough foam coverage in the shields, leads me to believe that the damage happened in the same way to all of these cars before the shield was even put on for the first time...before the car was ever put in the box.

You can see scratches on the inside of my shield that line up with the scratches on the canopy and behind it. Someone else posted pics as well with the scratches on the inside of the shield. The shield is definitely causing the marks somehow.

Just talked to Sideshow. He advised me that they cannot guarantee any Batmobiles ordered won't have similar defects. There will be no replacements for these made by Hot Toys. Once they are sold out, that's it. So either be happy you got what you got or you roll the dice and take your chances getting another.

Me either. But I think I emailed them Thursday or Friday... my return email said a response can take 7 days... not 3-5 like others said theirs said. They must be getting flooded with these reports.

This is where things get hairy for me on how to decide on what to do... I used a bunch of reward points to order mine... so if they say they can't replace and will only allow me to ship it back for a full refund or keep it and take a credit... I can't really send it back for a full refund... cause in doing so I won't get enough back to cover the cost of ordering a new one... cause they won't refund the point $ I used. So I'm pretty much stuck taking whatever they offer me for the damages... :dunno:thud:

Nice! :yess: :exactly:

This is disappointing news... Deal with it or return it because they won't replace it. I get it.. but, it still stinks.

I wonder if my vendor will get a different answer. I don't appreciate the consumer getting screwed for buying a product.

You'll be placing your order back through Sideshow? They'll probably send you the exact same damaged one again, or someone else's returned damaged one.
