I don't suppose you have any pics of Azog with a person standing next to him Josh? Just to get a better idea of size?

So amazing.

No, I posted all I took. Unless someone just happens to be standing next to it I don't have one. :(

The photos although awesome still don't do it justice. In person this will rock all other 1/6 statues period, and not just Weta pieces

The photos do a pretty good job but this is one you have to see in person to fully appreciate. Having seen it in person I'm still trying to wrap my mind around how cool it is.

no one knows the cost of licensing weta pays but that's a good guess why the prices are huge. it still doesn't change the fact that weta's pieces are overpriced for what you get, whether the reason is licensing, artistry manhours or paying for peter jackson's golden baday. the market is highly competitive as many collectors like myself buy several different lines, licenses and formats from several different companies. one thing is for sure, i would buy a lot more from weta if their prices weren't out of skew. not because i don't have the disposable income, but because i never pay too much if it isn't worth the price. :lecture

Yep, i absolutely agree with all of that :lecture

He looks so great surrounded by all the dwarves too. Will be hard not to start going crazy adding the others. :lol

Khev if you're into statues much I would highly suggest it. They are turning out some great stuff. Check out my reviews with all the pics I've taken to get an idea if you want.

I like statues (I own the Cap:FA PF and Frodo PF) but I've always just done Sideshow. Now seeing what Weta is doing in 1/6 scale with their improved sculpts and obvious involvement with the film production itself I'm finding it hard not to resist.

I assumed that Sideshow's Hobbit license would be where it's at but at this point I don't see how they'll be able to compete with what Weta is doing.

Weta had very much improved over the last 10+ years. I would totally jump into what they're putting out now. They're some pretty darn good sculpts. These statues will make for one heck of a collection.

Concentrate on your favorite L/E sculpts first and O/E later unless funding for all is no problem if Weta is on your shopping list

I saw in the Hobbit Chronicles Book II that the Goblin King is 10 feet tall which is actually shorter than Azog on his warg (7 ft Azog on warg that's 7 ft at the shoulder.) So I bet Weta will make him too at some point!

Looks like this will be my primary Hobbit line. HT will never do it and SSC will most likely do 1/4 or 1/5 scale which rules out characters like the Goblin King and makes Azog on his warg impractical (and likely inferior to the Weta piece anyway.) Smaug will obviously be out of scale no matter who makes him.

Never say never of course but it looks like it's all Weta for me! :rock

Yeah, he's a big guy so his statue will be. The GG bust was huge so taking that and adding legs can give you an idea. There is no doubt that Weta will make him. It's just more a matter of when at this point.

It's a great line for it to be a primary line. :rock

But the weta statues are a little smaller thgan the GG statues.
I take a look at my ring wraight on steed,he is smaller than the GG bust,if I had to image legs under him.
Also smaller than the sideshow maquette.
I got them all.
Because of the diversity of all,you would hardly notice :)
I'm going for the Weta Azog on warg and (GG bust, ordered that one allready).
And if the big azog statue comes like the one we have seen on SDCC on the Weta booth,it's very welcome.

What makes you think SS wouldn't do goblin king or azog in 1/4?

There is a big looking troll here behind the dark rider

I would say they most definitely will do them.

I didn't say that they wouldn't do Azog, just that he'd be impractical to display at 1/4 scale if he's on his warg. They could easily do him by himself, but then the Weta piece would ABSOLUTELY trump it.

Goblin King in 1/4 scale? Will never happen.
