Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

Physical is one rewuisite to play batman. The next question is, which actor is going to drop all his vanity at the door to play batman. When an actor drops all vanity, completely rewrites his being to play the character, you get cinematic gold. When all you do is star in one type of movie, romantic comedies or cliche action flicks, your being vain. The actor doesnt want to ruin his image or marketability as a movie archetype. Gosling may have given great performances, but have you ever seen stretch far beyond action star/romantic interst?

Christopher reeve once mentioned in an interview that great actors take up as many different roles as possible to test their acting limits. When christian bale became a skeleton for the machinist, you think there was any vanity what he did? He dedicated himself to that role, and didnt care if he looked like a freak of nature. Niether did heath, who immortalized the joker. To a much lesser extent, why do you think robert redford is starring in captain america? Is he gunna get a reward? Hellz no. But like other great actors, hes testing his acting limits, even if the movie is a campy action flick. Look at gary oldman, from creepy villian in fifth element to commissioner gordon.

If you apply these requisites, you can start weeding out most if the proposed actors to play the next batman. You can remove all the prebescent teenage television stars, whose only relation to the role is their good looks. Out of all the proposed actors, fassbender is the only one who has the range, has shown he is willing to drop vanity, and fits the physical requirements. This is coming after i just read another entertainment weekly blog gushing why gosling is the only one to play bats. Gosling seems like a great human being and talented at his craft, but we are talking about an iconic comic character i have loved since childhood. You can't half *** it, by simply going for looks or for an actor that hasn,t proven his acting range

I love Fassbender. i just don't see him taking the role. Plus he is already locked into the X-Men franchise. If he would do it, I would say awesome! But if he doesn't I still maintain Karl Urban would be perfect. He has the look. His vanity isn't a problem, he did Dredd without ever showing his face.

When i say vanity i mean actors who are not afraid to stretch beyond the cliche archtypes, even to the extreme. Actors who dont strectch, who dont show range, are afraid of looking the fool, for not being able to pull off the role.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

The more I think about it, the more I come back to Cumberbatch. He would deliver the same starpower to the DC universe that Robert Downey Jr brings to Marvel's. I totally believe he's willing to push himself as an actor, not that he would need to for this role, it might actually be a bit more subdued than what he's used to. The only thing he really needs to do is bulk up, which he did to play (spoilers) you know who, and he seems to be intent on bulking up even further.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

I like Karl urban, he was completely awesome on Dredd (which I hope we get a sequel of) but I just don't see him as Bruce that clearly, maybe he could pull it off but as of now, I don't like him as Bruce.

Jon Hamm isn't that old, he can get in shape and he would be perfect for Batman, someone mentioned Caviezel and I've seen him in a couple episodes of Person of Interest and I think he's right on the money too.

And Gosling just, no, he doesn't work as Batman/Bruce at any level, the same for Cumberbatch.

Remembering that Batman already existed in MoS makes me think that a younger Batman doesn't work, at least if he's too young.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

I'm staying with Karl Urban as the next Batman. He is the perfect choice. And if we are looking a tv actors, I suggest Jensen Ackles. His portrayal of Dean Winchester on Supernatural is pretty good evidence that he could make a good Bruce.

Ackles actually wants to do it.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

Karl Urban is actually a brilliant choice, I'd be all for him to take the role! ..ackles? ..umm no, wouldn't look the part imo.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

Interesting. I just got a sneak peek at the script. Here is what I read:

Outside shot: Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne talking outside of the Daily Planet

Clark Kent: Did you hear that, Bruce?

Bruce Wayne: No, what was it?

Clark Kent: A woman...being assaulted...Bieng Xiou province...China. Let's go!

Bruce Wayne: To the Bat Wing!

Clark Kent: The what?

Bruce Wayne: I'll have us in China in like 8 hours. We can find the culprit and bring him to justice!

Clark Kent: It takes you how long to get to China? Jesus Christ! Just have my extra costume washed and dinner ready when I get back!

In the blink of an eye, Clark Kent has been replaced by Superman, has flown to China, prevented the assault, and is back and in his Clark Kent disguise standing in front of Bruce Wayne who has not had a chance to so much as take a breath since Superman flew off.

Clark Kent: Seriously? You know what? Just wash my super jock. I'll be good with that. And make that Batman voice while I am doing you. That turns me on.

Bruce Wayne: To the Bat Cave!

Cumberbatch would be cool. He was the one bright spot in STID. His portrayal there made me think he could pull off the Batman. But has anyone ever heard him do an American accent? I can't think of a single time he has.

Ackles actually wants to do it.

This makes me happy. He is in house at WB with Supernatural. I think if they dye his hair he could be perfect. And height really doesn't matter. Michael Shannon is 6'2" and Henry Cavil is nowhere near that height. But Cavil looks impressively tall in the film.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

Odd... I've got no problem seeing him as either.

Mentaly merge V with agent smith.

Well, thats a little better. But i am still off on the jet setting playboy Bruce Wayne. But Hugo Weaving is a fantastic actor, so he could handle it.

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

No question he would need to bulk up ALOT, but he's got the acting range, AND he's got the martial arts bacground from working on the matrix trilogy ( seriously, watch the making of features if you haven't, they trained like crazy for those movies)

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

It might work as grizzled batman returns kicking superman's butt. But there will be a very awkward gap in the dc cinematic universe with an old batman and toung superman. Weaving is 53

Re: Man of Steel 2 (Superman/Batman--Official title to be confirmed)

Yes, he is one tremendous actor, it can't be denied, but that would be, forgive me for saying this, one ugly Bruce Wayne.
