The sculpting is different as well. Not just the lines in the face but the whole design of the helmet. For example it has vents on the sides instead of the "ears".

Sorry to deviate from the MKVII talk for a second, but that battle damage on the chest plate and arm of the XLII is inaccurate to the movie when Tony is in the suit. Or even when it's flying on it's own.
Anyway.
Carry on!

Rory very nicely gave the ugly truth shots on the elbows.:lol

I'm still not digging the head but I can appreciate where femtech is coming from. It also seems HT made the eyes bigger because of the LED light position and the ability to get more light to come out of them at the mask angle. Need the head in hand to get a better perspective obviously.

Unlike all previous Marks... where the LEDs are directed upwards, Mk. VII's LED in the head are actually directed to the eye. I suppose the eyes are even better lit than before and there no need to have bigger opening in the eyes.

simple smudge tool to see how much i actually took off the eyes and mouth.

while i don't find anything bothering me with this, its defiantly a little too big on this mark in terms of accuracy. there are variations on the mouth gap and eye size between movies and practical and cgi but none have "that big" eye sockets.

the good news is if you are handy with custom work its an fairly easy fix for both. a simple fill and color match.

Those two pics were the basis of my criticism of the rubber covering the joints. I still think HT could have come up with a better more durable solution but it's a done deal now and this is what we have for better or worse.

Got mine last night and first impression.....
Interchangeable parts are so bad ***....
Crotch area looks like apart from the Mark 3,4 and 6, but not sure...
RDJ headsculpt is a love it or hate it feeling, do i have a choice, i got this so far from buying all Avengers Hot toys and no time to complain...

wow, bro, i'll have to live vicariously through you.

i passed on fury, hawkeye, thor, coulson, widow, loki...

out of the avengers line, i only have cap, and have mk7 on preorder. i want to have them assembled like yours...but both price and non exact likness for some of the figures, i had to painfully pass.

i just hope HTs 3rd attempt for thor from thor 2 will be a knock out. just didnt feel it with this one.

Rory, if you're still checking in, I admire your taste so I trust your opinion...if you've had enough time to try different configurations, in what configuration do you think VII looks best: fully armed or disgarded weapons (to see more gold)? BD or clean?

:hi5:Sorry man, I missed your post. The red glossyness on this is really gorgeous, at the moment I'm keeping it clean, new fins/flaps up at back.
The only weapon attachments I have put on are the thigh bullet sections which are beautifully detailed and painted. Red all the way for me on this one.. It's the big bulky shoulder and extruding chest that I love about this design, and IMO it flows better when it's not broken up too much with BD or exposed gold sections.

In IM3 (I haven't watched IM1, IM2, or the Avengers in a while), the Mark XLII's eyes/viewfinders/whatevs sit lower on the exterior of the faceplate than Tony's human eye level reaches on the other side of the plate, within the helmet. I can't recall which Freak uses a GIF of the shot in which the XLII's faceplate slams into Tony's helmet to complete the suit during the Malibu raid scene, but the displacement between eye levels is pretty clear there. If, however, HT has historically been syncing the faceplate's eye level with Tony's organic eye level (I would have to consult some forum photos to verify this, since, again, I don't own any marks), then perhaps HT enlarged the Mark VII's eyes to make them appear closer to the mouth, and, therefore, more proportional to the grand scheme of the anthropomorphized face, all while trying not to drop this new eye level too far from the one they'd been adhering to previously. Furthermore, the new boldness of the mouth seam would provide more of a visual benchmark, and, in doing so, anchor the facade. The photo's having been taken from a low angle notwithstanding, one can observe these by-design proportions in OMG's work:

After breaking it down, I like what I see of the helmet a great deal. Even the partial illumination is kinda cool to me, as it makes the visage look more artificial and manufactured, like there's more machinery than flesh beneath Iron Man's surface. I do, however, expect future photos to inform my opinion of the figure, for better or worse. Until then, I think I'm at peace with the helmet. Now dem rubber inner elbows... :lol[/QUOTE]

:goodpost: :exactly: I have no real issues with the helmet. I think it looks great and I'm looking forward to having it on my shelf with the rest of the team.

I've seen the inside of the new head, that was the basis for my comment. If you look at Rory's pics you'll see how hollow the head looks from more realistic pics without the enhanced release pics from OMG and such. From the sides the light is so dim you can see into the mask.

The eyes are much dimmer from what I am seeing with the new head LED. It just seems the single light source is pointed between the eyes on the mask and just leaking light through each eye. That was my reasoning on the larger eyes to get more light through the face since there was much more light trapped in the head vs the old neck light system which passed light in a 360 degree pattern and not limited to only passing light through the front of the head.

May have been a better system to actually make 2 LEDs that directed light through each eye.

I think the head sculpt is really good. But there are three issues;
1. The head and facial hair aren't dark enough.
2. The expression doesn't match the suit. The BD head is much more appropriate.
3. Lighting is the enemy of this figure. Much like it was with Coulson.

Everyone for their own, but I'm happy I PO'd this.

Hello everyone. I've been browsing the forums for a little while now, but this is only my second post. I'm also brand new to collecting, and this will be (technically) my first HT figure. Anyways, I just have a question for those of you who buy locally. I have mine reserved at a local store here in Ohio, and my question is this: When do you think I can expect to have this figure in hand? The owner of the store said he doesn't know when they will arrive, he just said "maybe sometime in June." I've never been through this process before, and I've never bought from this particular store before. So does anybody have an idea of when a local store in Ohio will receive these?

Thanks everyone, and great discussions, btw.

Welcome, fellow Ohioan! Late june or early july is probably the soonest the regular version will show up. What local shop did you use?

comparison with Mk6

Yeah that Mark VII bucket head is going to make the other armors look goofy. HT made skinny heads on every damn previous Mark yet got a hair up their *** to make ol' mellon ball for the VII.

That Tony headsculpt is terrible on the Mark VII, its making the Avengers headsculpt look bad lining them up together as well.

They look like a couple of stoners:lol
